Preterism 101

Hi! - Jesus is here

*Ack* - Jesus dies

Bye! - Jesus rises and ascends

Crash, Argh! - Jerusalme falls (Matt 24 and parallels fulfilled)

Tum ti Tum... - the church waits his return

...an age goes by... - and waits (post mills think it gets better, amills thinks it gets worse towards the end)

Me Again! - Jesus comes back; the resurrection of all

Hooray!! - Jesus wins, we are with Him

But isn't Jesus supposed to come back in Matthew 24?

Well Malcom, this is a brief description of the preterist view. Solly did indicate with, "Crash, Argh! - Jerusalme falls (Matt 24 and parallels fulfilled)", that Matt 24 is fullfilled with the distruction of Jerusalem. According to preterist, Jesus returned in judgement against Isreal in AD 70.

Hope this answers your questions.

Thanks. :) But is the preterist view that He actually came back visibly - like lightning visible from the east to the west sort of thing? Oh, and doesn't that make the next time He comes back His third coming?

No the preterist (at least the ones I know of ;)) say that Jesus' coming in AD 70 was a coming in judgement not a visible coming. Similar to the OT prophecies that described the coming of God or the coming of the Lord in judgement.

And for a clarification... His coming to consummate history will not be a third coming since it is His second bodily coming. If we were going to count how many "comings" Jesus has made in general, the end of history would be His quadzillioneth coming since Scripture describes numerous ways in which Christ comes... some happen daily.
