Do computer games count? I've gotten very attached to Neverwinter Nights and Freedom Force.

Console games aren't my style.

I would have to say that growing up my fave arcade game was Tempest followed very closely by Q-Bert.

PC games, I love the WarLords games. I really enjoyed a little game called Sanitarium, Diablo was great...hmmm, Black & White is definetely an original.

As far as console games, my favorite was a PS One game called Skullmonkeys. Man, did I love that game! The disc has since been scratched to the point of me not being able to play it any longer and I have yet to find a replacement.

Thanks man, yeah I've been playing video games on and off for 14+ years. Where I used to be kind of a "hard core" gamer, I've been just a "casual" gamer for many years now. Because I don't have the time or money, I have always used the reviews as a guage to help sort the good, bad, and ugly. :teeth: There are probably 10 ugly games for every bad game, and 20 bad games for every good game.

NES--Legend of Zelda. Never got to play it much, but it was great.
SNES--Toss-up between Final Fantasy III and Secret of Mana. Square outdid themselves on those two games. Other notables are Super Mario Kart, Street Fighter II Turbo, and Super Metroid. I still play Secret of Mana from time to time.
PS1--Final Fantasy IX. 'Nuff said. Other notables are: Chrono Cross, some old Worms game (from way back when), and Final Fantasy VII (it's grown on me after a while).
PS2--don't have one, and certainly don't need one. Same for GameCube and Xbox.
PC--Hands down, Final Fantasy XI (my current massive time-and-GPA-waster). (Can you tell I really like Square games?) Other than that, Worms Armageddon, the Call to Power games for some reason (they had good music), and Final Fantasy VIII. I put this one here because this was the game that got me hooked on Final Fantasy; second, the graphics were far better on PC than on the PSone. Total Annihilation and TA:Kingdoms were a blast, as is Command & Conquer: Generals.

Have you played Final Fantasy X on PS2? I enjoyed playing previous Final Fantasy games like Final Fantasy II and III on the SNES, but I really got into Final Fantasy X for PS2 more than any other Final Fantasy game. If you havn't played it, you should at least rent it and give it a try. One of the reasons I'm considering an Xbox is because of an RPG I've played and watched my brother play...Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic is "all that" and more. :teeth:

My brother is a massive multiplayer online RPG fanatic. He played Ultima online for years, then played Dark Age of Camalot years, Star Wars Galaxies, and the massive multiplayer online Final Fantasy game. I would have thought that he would have played the Final Fantasy online game for years, but for some reason, it didn't take with him. I dunno why, but then I don't have the MMORPG experience that he does.

I would like to play Rise of Nations one of these days...I love Real-time strategy (RTS) games. :woohoo:

I have a new favorite game now: City of Heroes. It's one of those massively multiplayer online games that I normally avoid like the plague, but this one is just my style. I foresee that I'll be playing this one a LOT.

NES = Mario Bros 3, and Zelda Series.

SNES = Super Tecmo Bowl. (Hard to believe it came out 10 years ago. Still an oustanding game.)

PS1 = Metal Gear Soild, Tenchu, Final Fantasy 7 and 9.

PS2 = Risk and NCAA Football 2004.

PC = Medieval: Total War.

Good grief...

NWN and Civ3 are two games that I continue to play that burn away so much of my time that I am on hiatus from them right now. I also enjoy the 'Age of Wonders' series and 'Laser Squad Nemesis' (by the creators of Xcom, also an addicting game).

NES = Mario Bros 3, and Zelda Series.

:thumb: I loved playing both. Mario Bros. 3 is easily the best of the Mario series for the NES. The original Legend of Zelda, I played and played the game, through both "quests". Kids these days probably look at these games and think they're "primative", but they were prime entertainment in their time.

PS1 = Metal Gear Soild, Tenchu, Final Fantasy 7 and 9.

I jumped on the Metal Gear Solid bandwagon kind of late. Have you heard about Metal Gear Solid Twin Snakes for the Gamecube? It's basically an update of the original MGS. I wouldn't mind owning a copy. The PC version is good too, though it lacks the rumble feature of the PS1, but the graphics on the PS1 version are such a pixalated mess that it's hard to believe that such graphics were ever considered "state of the art".

I even purchased the Metal Gear Soundtrack and a few figures...I sold my figures on eBay awhile back though...made some money one them...wouldn't have sold them otherwise...probably some of the more detailed figures I've ever owned.

I didn't get into the Final Fantasy series for PS1 too much...IX is probably the best of the three...though VII was quite popular...maybe because it was so much different from the SNES versions?

I know the feeling. I actually haven't played Civ3 all that much, but I played Civ1 many many times. NWN was my latest fad until City of Heroes came out. Now NWN will probably be sitting on the shelf for a long while.

Oddly enough I was also addicted to Zoo Tycoon for a while, but now that I've completed all the scenarios I've shelved it.

I remember in grade school when Zelda came out, and how hard it was for me. I picked it up again ten years later and played through it again with only 6 saves, with 5 of the 6 saves being for supper, school, etc. Level 6 (the one with the wizards) was the only one that tripped me up.

I didn't even know it existed for the pc! I have been out of the loop for awhile now though. Life moves on, an upcoming marriage and job takes away the free time.

Younger people treat FF7 as their indoctrination into RPG's. I think FF3(US) is the best of the series as a whole. FF7 had good characters, and a dark theme. Plus it had alot of extras, Special Bosses, the chocobos, et al.

For the RPG fans out there, here's a funny list of RPG cliche's

I think my all-time favourite game has to be Goldeneye for the N64. It was for that game alone that I went with a nintendo over the PS1. It had everything - tons of really tough levels, amazing graphics (which were far ahead of anything else at that time), and a multiplayer mode that was so addictive and tons of fun at parties. When we would have the rest of my college and career group over, it was often the girls that would be talking about how excited they were to play "that Bond game" against each other when they would come over. The control was also so well done and all the different weapons and sounds were very lifelike. After awhile, I regretted having the nintendo instead of the playstation as the playstation seemed to be the console with the broader selection of good games, but Goldeneye made it worth it.

Now, I guess I would have to say that Call of Duty seems like a pretty awesome game. I have only played the two demo levels, but I definitely want to get the whole thing once I get my new computer. I also just played the new Return of the King game for PS2 and that was awesome. Madden 2004 is also a great game.

Medieval: Total War. I am playing for like the 30th time.

I also loved EverQuest, the first real MMORPG that was truly immersive.

Favorite all time: Metroid. I think I could still beat that game all the way through in 45 minutes or so. I also love Tenchu, Dynasty Warriors IV, Romance of the Three Kingdoms VI, and a few others.

That game is oustanding. The battle's are very well done. I usually play the Glorius achievements campaign. I like playing as the English (Longbowmen are great!) and the turkish are fun because of the unique units.

My favourite games:

Civilization 1: I've wasted so much of my life playing this. ( I can't bring myself to play the sequals)

Medieval: Total War: Best strategy game EVER!

Prince of Persia: The original is soooo much better than that 3D nonesense.

GoldenEye: Best 1st Person Shoot 'Em Up EVER!

Tekken Tag Tournament: Best Fighting Game EVER!

If I play as the Byz, I usually try to take out the turks quickly, and push the Eygptians out of Antioch, Palestine and Tripoli. The money I make in trade from those prov's fiances my whole empire. Crusade don't bother me much, usually they wait in greece for an opening to attack that never comes because I leave a large army in Constantinople. The Golden Horde can be a much bigger problem.

and the varangian's and the katatanks :teeth: sure are nice.

Hopefully this won't be gone by the time you get your computer back up. Maybe we can go at it on Age of Empires.

My favorite depends on my mood. In a good mood it's usually Rainbow Six or a Mech game (MechWarrior 3 or Heavy Gear 2), in one of my disinterested moods it's generally a puzzle game such as Beyond Atlantis (when I can get it to run properly), Sanitarium (glad to see someone else is familiar with that, although I can't solve the water puzzle without a cheat sheet) and strategy, such as the Command and Conquer series (minus Tiberian Sun) and Real War, and when I'm in an introspective mood I prefer the games with deep storylines, such as Final Fantasy 8 and 9.

Right now, I don't know what mine would be...

P.S.

Hey Jinx... My Axe be bloody ready! Atari: "Kaboom!" and "Pitfall." "River Raid" was fun, too.

NES: Ninja Gaiden and Double Dragon series

Mac: Diablo and Warcraft series, Return to Castle Wolfenstein

Console:

"Lord of the Rings" series (great games but way too short; waiting expectantly for "The Third Age.").
"Freedom Fighters" (again, great game, but could have been more missions.)
"Medal of Honor" series (except "Rising Sun"--very disappointing; hopefully the next game set in the Pacific Theater will be better.)

My latest fit of rage has opened up a whole new genre to me.

Hitman is great for letting off steam. In every level you have to assassinate someone (sometimes two or three people), and if you know the cheat codes you can just pick up a minigun and blast your way through a level.
