Ode to the Free Thinking Apostate
(sung to the George Michael song – Freedom)

I won't let you down
I will not give you up
Gotta have some faith in my… Mind!
It's the one good thing that I've… Got!

I won't let you down
So please don't give me up
Because I would really, really love to stick around…Oh yeah…

Heaven knows I was just a young boy,
Didn't understand the world around me.
I was told the ancient myths in my church school,
But it never seemed enough for me.

To win the race?
Its just faith and grace!
A brand new soul, and a big fat place
For all eternity!

But today the way I play the game is not the same
No way…
Think I've got me some more sanity…

I think there's something you should know,
I think it's time I told you so
There's something deep inside of me,
There's someone else I've got to be
Take back your dogma in my brain,
Take back your gods that are insane
I just hope you understand
Sometimes your faith does not make the man….

All we have to do now
Is take these lies,
and make them true somehow…

All we have to see
Is that I don't believe in you
And you don't believe in me…

Freedom! (I won’t let you down…)
Freedom! (I will not give you up…)
Freedom! (gonna have some faith in my MIND!)
You gotta give what you take!

Freedom! (I won’t let you down…)
Freedom! (So please don’t give me up…)
Freedom! (Because I would really love to stick around)
You gotta give what you take!

Heaven knows we sure have some fun boy
What a kick to have a mind that is free.
We study every thing we can, using our science,
Discarding old myths and fantasy.
We help our race,
With hard work and grace,
We enjoy our lives, at our own pace
In your communities.

Today the way I play the game has changed,
Oh yeah…
And now I'm feeling so happy!

I think there's something you should know
I think it's time I told you so
There's something deep inside of me
There's someone else I’ve got to be,
Take back your cross on your gold chain,
Don’t think that I’ll be back again
I just hope you understand…
Only by his works, can you judge the man!

All we have to do now
Is take these lies,
and make them true somehow…

All we have to see
Is that I live at peace with you
And you live at peace with me.

Freedom! (I won’t let you down…)
Freedom! (I will not give you up…)
Freedom! (gotta have some faith in your MIND!)
You gotta give what you take!

Freedom! (I won’t let you down…)
Freedom! (So please don’t give me up…)
Freedom! (Because I really enjoy my sanity!)
You gotta give what you take!

Well they said its the road to heaven,
but it felt like the road to hell.
And in the search for truth, I lost the faith,
and then I left the church as well.
Now my mind’s my own church,
There’s no creed I have to sell,
But when it came to pass,
I found out fast.
That some mistakes were built to last!

That's what you’ll get…(Oh yeah, that’s what you’ll get)
Hell’s what you’ll get,…(I say that’s what you’ll get!)
That's what you'll get,
For changing your mind!
(Its your own fault for changing your mind!)

That’s what you’ll get,
I say that’s what you’ll get…
and that’s just what you’ll get.
And after all this time…
I just hope you understand,
sometimes your threats,
Do not scare the man…

All we have to do now
Is take these lies…
And make them true somehow…

All we have to see
Is that I don't belong to you
And you shouldn’t threaten me. Yeah! Yeah!

Freedom!
My Freedom!
Hold onto to my Freedom!
You gotta give what you take!

Freedom!
My Freedom!
Hold onto to my Freedom!
You gotta give what you take!

May not be what you want from me
Its just the way it's got to be
I’ve lost your faith now
And I've got to live…

POWELL:
Did you compose this yourself, LGM?

I wonder how long it will be before there are more popular songs about skeptical / scientific issues than religious / superstitious issues.

A better freedom song was White Lion's "Cry for Freedom"...

White Lion...that was a great band! Guitar work was amazing courtesy of Vito Bratta..

Nice song. But not much of an apologetics topic started. It has been moved to the Student Lounge
