I'm the first to post in this forum!

That being said: I have a friend that I went to high school with who is going to Africa this summer on a mission trip. It's a very big deal, and she (and her family, which is only marginally accepting of this) needs prayer.

I'll definitely pray for her! I am in exactly the same situation as your friend...

That's great Feanor! My husband grew up in Africa as a missionary kid. It is near and dear to our hearts.

She's got it! I admire someone who can travel to a third world region to preach the Gospel; I'm not sure I could do it.

She's incredibly brave. She lets nothing get in the way of her mission. She's around my age, but already an extremely outspoken Christian. As such, we're proud of her.

I have a friend from college who will be a college mathematics professor in Africa, eventually.

This touches a personal spot in me. My youngest daughter has committed to living in Burkina Faso (West Africa) -- for two years. She has been their about four months working at an orphanage.

We pray often for her and with her, and hear from her often as well. Family support (practilcal and spiritual) is so important.

My wife and I recently returned from our first trip to Africa. It was just an 8 day trip to Dakar, Senegal in West Africa but it was a massive emotional and spiritual experience. A trip of this type is something that EVERY Christian should plan at least once in their lives. Getting the chance to see the gospel preached in a country the typifies the word "3rd world," and in a country that is 96% Muslim was an unmeasurable privilege.

We stayed at the United World Mission training center in Dakar and had the opportunity to have dinner each night with a different United World Mission missionary family. It was incredible getting the chance to hear each story of how God brought them to the mission field and how God is working in their lives each day.

Word really fail to adequately capture the impact that this has had on my outlook of Christ's impact in the world. We, in the USA, have a tendancy I have come to notice, to view God very locally. We see "our" church and "our" Christian friends and I think have a tendency to view this as "Christianity." We might intellectually know he loves the "whole world," but since most of us have never even thought about traveling to a country like Africa, we cannot place the gospel within a global context.

If you ever have a chance for a short term mission trip through your church....GO! Raise the money if you cannot afford to pay out of your pocket. We were able to raise about 25% of our trip in about a week hitting up just a few of our friends and family. It will be something that you will never forget!

We've got a church that is strangely attentive to the needs of the youth group, and they set aside a decent little chunk of the budget for our use. Unfortunately since she is doing this independently of the group, she had to raise the funds by herself...which is kind of sad...However, I'll be helping chaperone about thirty of our kids on a short-term (one week) trip to a Group Workcamps (if that rings any bells) project in Puerto Rico at the end of next month.

Well, my youth group leaves early this saturday morning for Puerto Rico for a week with Group Workcamps. I'll be helping chaperone. :woohoo:

Keep us in prayer; we definitely need it.

having been a chaperone on several youth trips (heck I was a Part Time youth minister for nearly 4 years), I will be saying a special prayer for you.

It went very, very well...except for the return trip, during which became apparent that it was a trial run for a new level of purgatory.

Well, thought I'd resurrect this thread to mention that I'm about to saddle up with my youth group again: this time a return trip to Honduras to San Pedro Sula! This will be my third trip there, and we'll be doing VBS stuff with a boatload of schoolchildren down there. In 2001 and 2003 we saw about 1200 kids each time, so we'll be seeing about that many this year.

Prayers greatly appreciated.

I've got a friend also that is wanting to go to Africa. She was a student at the same college as me last year, actually is dating a good friend of mine. His parents are missionaries over in Senegal and she was offered a place to live with them for awhile so she could get a little mission's work in over there. Dave, my friend, was all for her going there for a bit and living with his folks, she really wanted to go, his parents were excited at the thought of her coming but her parents are trying to be very controlling in the situation, they don't want her to go at all! Since they lent her the money for her year of school here, they're holding that against her and saying she has to come back to school and get a degree or they won't support her anymore...kinda complicated situation but sounds a tad familiar to yours...sounds like they both could use some prayer in this situation. It amazes me too because her parents are die-hard christians. She really feels like God wants her there and yet her parents are so unsupportive of her...you'd think they'd support what she felt was God's will in her life! Some parents befuddle me. For those of you who are parents out there, don't hold on so tight to your kids! Scrapes and brruises are a major part of growing up and if we don't experience them when we're young, we won't know how to handle them when we're older. I'll definately keep this girl in my prayers though, and for her family and everyone else involved...though I'm not sure who that all is...I'll just pray for general guidance and God's will in the situation.

Helo I'm new here:)
I'm thinking about going to Africa for Christ, but I'm praying still if I must go there. I want go and speak about Jesus. I heard about many of ministries there, trips, but in my country I didn't hear any one. Could you help me find someone who will go to West Africa?
