i know at first glance you may think that this should be in the Amphitheater section . But it belongs here I believe. Let me explain.

If Mel Gibson were to make a $100 million film based on the events of 70AD, could it be done ? Let's say he became an orthodox preterest by reading" Last Days Madness " and the writings of Josephus as well as the Scriptures. He has decided to embark on the follow-up to "The Passion." The film will be on the judgement of Israel and the events surrounding that event. And we all know why judgement came upon Israel .

My question is what would be the response form the mainline churches ? How would the Jewish community as a whole respond ? How about the response of the Jewish leaders who condemned " The Passion ?" What would Lindsey and LaHaye have to say ? Could the movie be made ? What do you think personally and why ?

The same can be said for the reverse. What if he was a futurist and made a "Left Behind " type of movie with a huge budget of $100 million. You know the crowd will show up. What will be the response from various groups then? What would be the impact on the church as a whole ? What would Dee Dee do ?

Based on all available data I have, given all the various possibilities of what could happen, I'd have to say... Dee Dee would throw up.

It could be called the Judgement of the Christ

(It would flop, but I would go to see it)

The "analogman do " doesn't sound any better .

Why would the movie flop ? I don't think many christians would see it because - let's be real , there would be so much violence in a movie based on 70 AD it would make " The Passion " look pale by comparison. I don't have to bring up some of the events that happened at that time according to Josephus. My point is the outrage that would come from the mainline church would be ( I would think ) unparallel since the protest of the film "The Last Temptation of Christ." Mel Gibson's career would be over. It would open for a day and close down.

I think it would make a great film . It would contain flashbacks to the Olivet Discourse in Matthew 24 and Jesus' words to the high priest and etc.
The battle scenes would make "Braveheart " look like a "G" movie .

Like I said -" The movie that Mel Gibson could never make." If you were a film director with $100 million in your account and a preterest -- would you make the film that would shake the world ? Or would you play it safe and make ????

That is a good question. If I really thought it would shake the world, I would like to think that I had the TF to make the film dispite the risk to my fame and fortune.

My question is would it really shock the world?

I think it would. I think it would get enough press to get enough people to ask the questions that the mainline churches are discouraging.

Mainly, why in the world would anyone be a futurist?

The "experts" (LaHaye, Ice, Van Impe, Lindsey) from the Futurist side would get on TV to (try to) refute the film, and I think enough people would question their answers to make a big difference.

But then again, sometimes I think that Christians in America are content being sheep.

Afterall, the Gospel of John came out a few months before the PoC. Much better movie AFAIC. But it didn't get the popular press, so the religious press didn't feel the need to "protect their turf" so the pastor's didn't have to talk about it in the pulpit, and it was not a huge box office hit.

:egad: How did I get on that :soapbox:?

Sorry. Back to your regularly scheduled discussion.

I think it would be a great movie, my be from the perspective of Josephus, Hmm.

The responce from the christian mainstream, would depend on how it was marketed, as a preterist film it would likely flop as an epic it might make it.

As for Dee Dee Assocate Producer???

How ironic that I'm currently working on a script for just such a film (and that this is my first post!). Selling it and getting it made are completely another story.

I would dread the church's reaction. Horror from the prominent churchians, attacks on it on TV, a huge controversy. Actually, that sounds like what happened with Passion. I think that the regular christians would see it, if only to see what the controversy is about. Controversy is the best way to sell something, it triggers interest in people, and gets you a lot of free advertisements by those bashing it. It worked for Gibson.

As to the film itself, it could theoretically be as epic as Troy, PoC, LotR, and Braveheart put together. Lord knows there's enough material for it.

My take begins with a prologue of Christ's predictions in Matt. 24 and follows two early Christian characters, the Jewish Pharisees, Nero, and the Roman armies up to the destruction of Jerusalem in AD 70.

Is that so? How do you plan doing the three legions involved. Also, how will do biblical exegesis of passages like the collapse of the universe, project it into the Christian's studies of scripture or something of the like? Finally, I have two suggestions. The first would be to not just limit yourself to Matthew 24, but also delve into say, Matthew 22:1-8 and various other predictions of Jerusalem's fall. The second suggestion is that you should also have Vespasian and Titus as characters. The third would be to delve into the after-effect of Nero's death with all the timult it caused.

Well if you get through with it. Send me an private email and get me the script. If it's great I am in the industry and would be more than happy in getting it the hands of a few producers that I know personally. It's gotta be professional and a good script though .
