do not pass go, do not collect $200 :teeth:

this is my last monkey wrench to throw into the Calvinist system, then i'm out for the weekend.

La Scala Boy, a cat amongst dogs , makes a worthwhile comment here (http://www.theologyweb.com/forum/showthread.php?postid=568977#post568977):
IMHO, Arminianism seems to interpret scripture in the light of human reasoning about who they think God is, instead of seeing what the scripture says and knowing that God is God....

This is not unexpected, we should all have an interest in trying to understand Scripture using God's wisdom, rather than the world's. Note that i don't think God gave us brains because He wanted us to become mindless zombies, but at the same time I've seen the sentiment he speaks of coming from other Arminians. it is worthwhile on both sides that we examine this presumption, and figure out whether it is actually from God or from man.

however we see joelkaki, an emotional Calvinist , state elsewhere (http://www.theologyweb.com/forum/showthread.php?postid=569864#poststop):
And if the trust comes as a result of something in man himself, then credit can go to him, because HE is making a smart/good decision.

This sounds quite a bit like human reasoning, don't you think!? I haven't seen anything like this in Scripture. so on one hand, we are being berated for using human reasoning, and on the other we are being attacked with human reasoning. Does anyone else see the inconsistency in the Calvinism playbook? :sigh2:

I feel to see how I am an emotional Calvinist in the sense that you mean it, but I will go with the smily face I guess.
And I fail to see what is so "human reasoning" about it, exactly, at least as you mean. Unless you mean reasoning as we all use, which was given to us by God.

it was a small joke off of the title of the thread you post was in.

my usage is entirely in line with La Scala Boy's usage. if you don't agree with his usage, you may simply say so.

i think, however, he is using Paul's contrast between the wisdom (foolishness) of God and the wisdom of the world. i don't think he is using it licitly, but note that my intent here wasn't to say who was wrong, but note how your statements conflicted one another's.

if these weren't so important points to their respective topics, i wouldn't have made such a fuss, but something here's gotta give. (it looks like La Scala may have dropped his argument, so this thread probably moot at this point)
