Hi all! :woohoo:
I'm an (agnostic) Reform Jew, a friend of yoshiah_ap. I hope to have a little fun on this forum from time to time, and of course cause a lot of trouble
See ya!

Oh goodie, another fella who doesn't know anything at all! Welcome to Tweb, Junkie! Hopefully, I'll cause you a lot of trouble too. :teeth: (Good-natured, of course...)
In fact, I think I'll start now. Question: What makes you a Jew? And/or what tribe are you from?

Hi LutheranSage,
Junkie was born a Jew, but hasn't decided if there is a God or not. I guess you could compare it to a Lakota who is invovled with the Lakota traditions, but doesn't neccessarily believe in a God.

But Yoshi, you're talking about apples and orangutans! To be BORN something - Jew or Lakota Indian - indicates ethnicity - something derived from your genealogy/family tree. To BELIEVE something - Judaism, Pantheism or whatever - has NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with a person's ethnicity and/or their genetic makeup!
The Lakota tribe is a subset of the Sioux Indians, but the Lakota tribe has at least 7 different bands or branches - i.e. families within the greater tribe or clan.
One of my aunts is a CREEK Indian but her son married a CHEROKEE girl from the BIRD clan. (Somehow a MOUSE fits into all this, but I can't quite recall how at the moment...) This cousin of mine has a daughter. What would her ethnicity be - predominantly European? Creek? Cherokee? (They profess NØ religious affiliation.)
Your post just goes to prove that Judaism cannot define itself or it's members.

Cherith,
Unlike Christianity, Judaism is more then just a belief.

yoshiah_ap got it right. I'm just not sure if a Creator exists, or not.

IMO, It's like being an American. You can be born one, or you can become one. I'm from the Tribe of Zebulun.
And no offense Cherith, but if this is going the way of the other tribal descent thread.. well save your breath, because it's not a subject I'd care to debate about.

ArcadeJunkie has yet again been slaughtered by yoshiah_ap on Halo. *bows*..... Now back to your regular post
Nah. I'm comparing with a green apple with a red apple. Because, believe it or not, Jewishness is more than just a belief. You can believe in all the principles of Judaism, and not be a Jew! Those people are generally known as Bnai Noah, Noahides, or Righteous Gentiles.
Now to your example.
The Tribe of Israel is a subset of the Tribe of Avraham, and within the tribe of Israel there are 12 main divisions - or 13, depending on your POV - and numerous subdivisions.
About your cousin - she'd be half Creek Lakota and half Bird Cherokee.
Can you handle that?
Oh yeah... on that last comment, I can point to the fact that Christianity still argues about who is/isn't a Christian. For Ex: Southern Baptists who say that Catholics, JW's, and Mormons aren't Christians.
