when he said "It is finished."(John 19:30) ?
I've read some fascinating possibilites, but I'd like to hear others.

wow. a sure lot of takers here. One might think people are afraid of Catholic belief.:teeth:
So does anyone have any ideas? If not, I'll post one that can be rather mind-blowing.:hrm:

that's right! It was the Passover! But by the nature of Passover, when did it begin? In the Upper Room! And when did it end? On the cross!
Know what that means? The Cross and the Upper Room are connected!
So read that link, already! Surely your faith is strong enough to withstand Catholic teaching? :read: :kiss:

It is finished.
Finished is the greek word, "Tatelestai"which means "paid in full". A word used in those times to speak of a debt which had been paid in full.
Its redemptive. The dept is paid in full.
Anyone challenge me on this??

okay, so we're starting with the notion that you didn't read that link. Fair enough.
The only problem with your line of thinking is that Jesus' redemption of mankind didn't end with Jesus' death. It ended with His resurrection.
Romans 4:25 (NIV)
He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.
So 'it is finished' is not talking about any kind of debt. Now go read that link! :whip:
