This is the sort of thing that happens to you when you speak up and expose the heresies and false teachings in the Church. Not pleasent! :(

Ripped and torn to shreds in the House of our God

On Friday, 26th June, 1998, after two years of attempting to approach Chris Brock, the Senior Pastor of AOG - Cairns Christian Centre, in a brotherly and Biblical manner, with my concerns regarding the gradual introduction of false teaching into the assembly, I was summoned to appear before him and the Board and told, after a one and a half hour 'discussion', that I was to leave and not return to the church that I had spent years helping to build (physically and financially), as I was unwelcome. My crime was that I was unwilling to obey the Pastor's request that I should do nothing about my fears of false doctrine being introduced and fed to my unsuspecting brothers and sisters in Christ.

Well, if it was done in anything representative of the manner in which you approach those who disagree with you here on theologyweb, I can see why they would be upset with you.

Being excommunicated ("disfellowshipped" is a bit clumsy sounding to me) from a heterodox church is not necessarily a bad thing.

That being said, clearly the man was not in fellowship with this congregation or there would have been an uproar after his excommunication. The same thing happened to Athanasius--several times!

Finally, there is a cost to descipleship. Perhaps he is being called to fight the good fight.

These particular doctrines are particularly seductive in our Oprahfied society.

Personally, I think sometimes it is good to experience being on the otherside of disfellowship.

We like to disfellowship others, we don't like it as much when we are considered to be that person in error and disfellowshipped.

hm.

Did not read thru everything on the site, but there certainly is stuff going on there that seems fishy to me. My advice to the guy thusly cast out - which was completely within the rights of the local body - would be to get together with the other guy who was "disfellowshipped" and start a new fellowship. If this is how the movement begins, they will not be the last ones to go and later victims may be worse off than the first few strong people who were cast off early. They will need a haven to go to, in order to discuss why they were cast out and to find love and acceptance (assuming of course that the disfellowshipping is similarly unfair, as presented).

At the same time, the cast out do need to take some time to examine themselves (similar to how we are asked to examine ourselves before Communion) to ensure there is no unconfessed sin or wrongdoing. (1) This makes sure that they are not in the wrong (which is the point of disfellowship - to give time to repent), and (2) if they are not in the wrong, it ensures that the pastoral/leadership staff of the offending church do not have a wedge to use in attacking you in the future. (Just look at the reaction to Rush Limbaugh's 3rd divorce elsewhere on TWeb. Do not stick your neck out until you know you are right with God, and ready to talk about removing specks.)

I hope and pray this can be resolved.

Does Seer agree with you?

You are playing with hyperbole, son.

I would say it is time that you threw your demonic books on OVT into the fire. The god of OVT, satan, is deceiving you and blinding your mind, eh?
The god of OVT does not exists, it is a man made construct, it is an idol!!!
Satan exists, though.

And so does the God who is Holy and you and I are unholy. What a conundrum!

How do we obey the command to be holy as God is holy?

You know my answer to those question don't you?

I do.

I quit attending an AOG church several years ago because I did not agree with many of their teachings. I can understand that you are emotionally involved in the church, and that you are concerned for the other people who attend, but perhaps this disfellowship will benefit you. You are faced with finding a new church, something that you were unwilling to do before you were disfellowshipped. You have the opportunity to choose a church that is closer to your beliefs.

I have never found a church nor another Christian who's beliefs line up 100% with mine. I am happy when we agree on major issues. I don't have to be in perfect agreement with a group of Christian brothers and sisters to fellowship and worship with them.
