I was shown a 'fault' in the bible by someone the other day.
Matthew 27:28 shows Jesus wearing a sacrlet robe while mark 15:17 shows Him in a purple robe.
If you ask me, that's pretty close. but I thought I'd see if anyone has any light to shed on this...
Thanks.

yeah.. I guess it's a good proof text against the whole 'God is a woman' thing that was going arounf a while back...
seriouly though... is this a fault? Is there an explanation for it?

Maybe the translators were women, and the original greek for both gospels just says purple?

Seriously though, a plausible explanation is exactly what Muz said, bearing in mind what inerrancy actually means in context - see J.P.'s post on ma besay-il here (http://www.theologyweb.com/forum/showpost.php?p=393977&postcount=2) (I presume we're allowed to argue by hyperlink to other TWeb posts? It gets boring making the same point over and over again, that's all...)

A note to Matthew 27:28 ("they stripped him and put a scarlet cloak around him") in The New Jerusalem Bible:
The Roman soldier's cloak (sagum): being red it suggested the imperial purple to the mocking soldiery.
