ok, everyone has one song that speaks of who they are, or how they feel most often. It doesn't have to be there favorite song of all times, it just describes them or their personality more than any other song.
Graceinme's personal song.......
Four Non Blonde's-Whats Going On. I will post the words tomorrow.

I don't know which song best describes my personality, but 2 songs come to mind that I can personally relate to, since I was a kid.
One is, "She's a bad mamajama" by Carl.... somebody. I can't remember his name- it an old school funk song. It feeds my ego., and has always made me feel in a better mood.
The second, is "Fortress Around Your Heart" by Sting... because I so often do that to people- my nasty habit.

I can't explain it, every-time I hear that song I just start singing it as if I wrote it. Oh, and watch out if I am in the car listening to it. I start screaming the song really load like a lunatic. People look at me really funny in other cars cause all they see is me rockin out like a mad man. It is also a really cool song cause most of the words are.....Hay yeah yeah yeah yeah, hay yeah yeah yeah yeah, I said hay, whats goin on. I mean you don't have to be a rocket scientist to remember the words, or Celine Dion to hit the notes.

The only time I really identify with a song is when I get mad. I used to be all about Slipknot for those times until I got rid of the CD.

This is a tough one. Patroclus says that I'd be a cross between Radiohead and Van Halen.
Radiohead:
Packt Like Sardines in a Crushed Tin Box- "I'm a reasonable man, get off my case."
Paranoid Android- "When I am King, you will be first against the wall."
Van Halen:
Eruption (Because I like to shred)
Or, lastly, my favorite song from when I was a kid:
Queen
Hammer to Fall
Here we stand or here we fall
History won't care at all
Make the bed, light the light
Lady Mercy won't be home tonight.
CHORUS
You don't waste no time at all
Don't hear the bell but you answer the call
It comes to you as to us all
We're just waiting
For the hammer to fall
Oh every night, and every day
A little piece of you is falling away
But lift your face, the Western Way -
Build your muscles as your body decays.
CHORUS
Tow the line and play their game
Let the anaesthetic cover it all
Till one day they call your name
You know it's time for the Hammer to Fall.
Rich or poor or famous for
Your truth it's all the same
Lock your door but rain is pouring
Through your window pane
Baby now your struggle's all vain.
For we who grew up tall and proud
In the shadow of the Mushroom Cloud
Convinced our voices can't be heard
We just wanna scream it louder and louder
CHORUS
What the hell are we fighting for?
Just surrender and it won't hurt at all
You just got time to say your prayers
While you're waiting for the Hammer to Fall.

Ok, here are the words. Oh, and I got the title wrong, it's Whats Up?
25 years of my life and still
I'm trying to get up that great big hill of hope
For a destination
I realized quickly when I knew I should
That the world was made up of this
Brotherhood of man
For whatever that means
So I cry somethimes when I'm lying in bed
To get it all out what's in my head
Then I start feeling a little peculiar
So I wake in the morning and I step
Outside I take deep breath
I get real high
Then I scream from the top of my lungs
What's goin' on
And I say hey...
And I say hey what's goin' on
And I say hey...
I said hey what's goin' on
And I try, oh my God do I try
I try all the time
In this institution
And I pray, oh my God do I pray
I pray every single day
For a revolution
So I cry sometimes when I'm lying in my bed
To get it all out what's in my head
Then I start feeling a little peculiar
So I wake in the morning and I step outside
I take a deep breaththen I get real high
Then I scream from the top of my lungs
What's goin' on
And I say hey...
And I say hey what's goin' on
And I say hey...
I said hey what's goin' on
And I say hey...
And I say hey what's goin' on
And I say hey...
I said hey what's goin' on
25 years of my life and still
I'm trying to get up that great big hill of hope
For a destination

Ok , well I guess I have always identified with this song because most of my school life I was picked on and as I got older I always felt like people ignored me or like I was always giving to people and everyone was always too busy or whatever to care when I needed someone.... and I also guess to some extent I feel some of those things still. I find myself singing this chorus when I get to feeling low and no one seems to care :)
Moving Pictures
What About Me
Well there's a little boy waiting at the counter of the corner shop
He's been waiting down there, waiting half the day,
They never ever see him from the top
He gets pushed around, knocked to the ground,
He gets to his feet and he says...
CHORUS:
What about me? It isn't fair
I've had enough, now I want my share
Can't you see, I wanna live
But you just take more than you give
Well, there's a pretty girl serving at the counter of the corner shop
She's been waiting back there, waiting for a dream,
Her dreams walk in and out, they never stop
Well, she's not too proud, to cry out loud
She runs to the street and she screams...
CHORUS
More than you give...
Take a step back and see the little people
They might be young, but they're the ones that make the big people big
So listen as they whisper:
"What about me?"
And now I'm standing on the corner, all the world's gone home
Nobody's changed, nobody's been saved
And I'm feeling cold and alone
I guess I'm lucky, I smile a lot
But sometimes I wish for more than I've got...
CHORUS
What about me?
What about me?
What about....

A song that identifies with me, hmm.
Well I can't remember the singer or the exact title but I think ist was "Their coming to take me away"? it went something like this.
Their coming to take me away haha
Their coming to take me away hoho
hehe haha to the funny farm where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be happy to see my lifelong friends in their clean white clothes, their coming to take me haha.
If I remember correctly the tone of voice continues to rise as from the first note to the last in this section and all those that accompany it. :dufus:

Hootchie Cootchie Man (Muddy Waters)
A gipsy woman told my mother
before I was born
"I got a boy child coming
He's gonna be a son of a gun.
He's gonna make pretty womens
jump and shout
then the world wanna know
what's this all about
But they know I'm him
Everybody knows I'm him
I'm the Hootchie Cootchie Man
Everybody knows I'm him
I got a black trombone
I got a mojo too
I got a ... guadaloupe
I'm gona mess with you
I'm gonna make you girls
Lead me by the hand
Then the world will know
the Hootchie Cootchie Man
Everybody knows I'm him
I'm the Hootchie Cootchie Man
Everybody knows I'm him
On the seventh hour
On the seventh day
On the seventh month
The seven doctors say
"He was born to good luck
And that you see
I got seven hundred dollars
don't you mess with me
But you know I'm him
Everybody knows I'm him
I'm the Hootchie Cootchie Man
Everybody knows I'm him

GraceInMe, I'm really glad you brought this up. There's music that is asthetically pleasing to the ear and to the soul; and then there is music that hits you somewhere in the middle of your spirit. You can't really explain it, but it perhaps how it would feel if given just a taste of Heaven . . . --and perhaps that is just what it is. A drop of rain that falls on a dry and cracked ground. The heat-baked earth yearns to hang on to every essence of moisture. It is grateful for the drop but O if it could just reach for a little more. . .
Any way speaking of water, one such song for me (I have about 5 or so) is Let It Rain by Peter Furler of the Newsboys. The song has a central theme of water (and the Living Water)
LET IT RAIN LYRICS
Music by Peter Furler
Lyrics by Steve Taylor & Peter Furler
a fisher of men remembers...
and I have watched in wonder
as with a word You calmed a raging sea
I have seen You make the wine from water
mud and water made a blind man see
water still reminds me
of the seaside where our eyes first met
let it rain
Lord, we're waiting for Your rain to fall
let it rain
bringing back the wonder of it all
and I can see Your face again
when You let it rain
and I've been bathed in mercy
by every gesture, every word You've said
once I spoke of power and high position
you took a towel and washed my feet instead
water, like a promise
heaven opens, but I'm not there yet
let it rain...
I've been foolish
thought I knew it all
three times I denied Your name
Your forgiveness, like a waterfall
washes away my shame
a new dawn is breaking
another hour, and then I leave this place
I am ready, Lord, to give my life up
I'm so ready, Lord, to see Your face
water, like a promise
and in this final hour, I think my final prayer shall be
would You let it rain?
let Your Spirit fall afresh on me
let it rain...

There's a danger zone, not a stranger zone
Than the little plot I walk on that I call my home
Full of eerie sights, weird and skeery sights
Ev'ry vicious animal that creeps and crawls and bites!!
On the Amazon, the prophylactics prowl On the Amazon, the hypodermics howl On
the Amazon, you'll hear a scarab scowl and sting zodiacs on the wing
All the stalactites and vicious vertebrae
Hunt the stalagmites while laryngitis slay
All that parasites that come from Paraguay in the spring
Hmm, hmm hmmm
Snarling equinox among the rocks will seize you
And the fahrenheit comes out at night to freeze you
Wild duodenum are lurking in the trees
And the jungle swarms with green apostrophes
Oh, the Amazon is calling me
On the Amazon, the pax vobiscum bite
On the Amazon, the epiglottis fight
On the Amazon, the hemispheres at night all slink where the agnostics drink
All the hippodromes that lie concealed in mud
Hunt the metronomes that live in swamp and flood
Then the kodachromes run out and drink their blood, poor ginks
While velocipedes among the weeds will scare you
And the menopause with hungry jaws ensnares you
Frenzied adenoids infest the hills and slopes
Everyone avoids the deadly stethoscopes
Oh, the Amazon is calling
Yes, the Amazon is calling
Oh, the Amazon is calling me-ee!!

Oh that's an easy one, Yes's Close to the Edge. It also happens to be the best piece of music ever composed, period!
Close To The Edge
I. The Solid Time Of Change
Anderson/Howe
A seasoned witch could call you from the depths of your disgrace,
And rearrange your liver to the solid mental grace,
And achieve it all with music that came quickly from afar,
Then taste the fruit of man recorded losing all against the hour.
And assessing points to nowhere, leading ev'ry single one.
A dewdrop can exalt us like the music of the sun,
And take away the plain in which we move,
And choose the course you're running.
Down at the edge, round by the corner,
Not right away, not right away.
Close to the edge, down by a river,
Not right away, not right away.
Crossed the line around the changes of the summer,
Reaching to call the color of the sky.
Passed around a moment clothed in mornings faster than we see.
Getting over all the time I had to worry,
Leaving all the changes far from far behind.
We relieve the tension only to find out the master's name.
Down at the end, round by the corner.
Close to the edge, just by a river.
Seasons will pass you by.
I get up, I get down.
Now that it's all over and done,
Now that you find, now that you're whole.
II. Total Mass Retain
Anderson/Squire
My eyes convinced, eclipsed with the younger moon attained with love.
It changed as almost strained amidst clear manna from above.
I crucified my hate and held the word within my hand.
There's you, the time, the logic, or the reasons we don't understand.
Sad courage claimed the victims standing still for all to see,
As armoured movers took approach to overlook the sea.
There since the cord, the license, or the reasons we understood will be.
Down at the edge, close by a river.
Close to the edge, round by the corner.
Close to the end, down by the corner.
Down at the edge, round by the river.
Sudden call shouldn't take away the startled memory.
All in all, the journey takes you all the way.
As apart from any reality that you've ever seen and known.
Guessing problems only to deceive the mention,
Passing paths that climb halfway into the void.
As we cross from side to side, we hear the total mass retain.
Down at the edge, round by the corner.
Close to the end, down by a river.
Seasons will pass you by.
I get up, I get down.
III. I Get Up, I Get Down
Anderson/Howe
In her white lace
You can clearly see the lady sadly looking.
Saying that she'd take the blame
For the crucifixion of her own domain.
I get up, I get down,
I get up, I get down.
Two million people barely satisfy.
Two hundred women watch one woman cry, too late.
The eyes of honesty can achieve.
How many millions do we deceive each day?
[Thru the duty she would coil their said
amusement of her story asking only interest
could be laid upon the children of her domain]
I get up, I get down.
I get up, I get down.
In charge of who is there in charge of me.
Do I look on blindly and say I see the way?
The truth is written all along the page.
How old will I be before I come of age for you?
I get up, I get down.
I get up, I get down.
I get up, I get down.
IV. Seasons Of Man
Anderson/Howe
The time between the notes relates the color to the scenes.
A constant vogue of triumphs dislocate man, so it seems.
And space between the focus shape ascend knowledge of love.
As song and chance develop time, lost social temp'rance rules above.
Ah, ah.
Then according to the man who showed his outstretched arm to space,
He turned around and pointed, revealing all the human race.
I shook my head and smiled a whisper, knowing all about the place.
On the hill we viewed the silence of the valley,
Called to witness cycles only of the past.
And we reach all this with movements in between the said remark.
Close to the edge, down by the river.
Down at the end, round by the corner.
Seasons will pass you by,
Now that it's all over and done,
Called to the seed, right to the sun.
Now that you find, now that you're whole.
Seasons will pass you by,
I get up, I get down.
I get up, I get down.
I get up, I get down.
Life is experience. Good ole Siddhartha.

I usually have a high turnaround rate for the music I like, but all of Gary Cherone's lyrics I am sure will always have a special place; but none moreso than this:
Extreme
Side 3, '& The truth'
EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN
Part 1
"Rise and Shine"
Dawn wakes the silence of a faded lullaby
Day breaks the eyelid of a song sung in my eye
Night rests in peace as the sun mourns the sky
All's accounted for, sheep, over a horizons eye
Rise, rise and shine
A new day is coming
Rise, rise in time
For everything's under the sun
And when you feel a south wind blow
Forcasting you will know
A hot day will be on the way
Foolish one
You analyze the earth and the sky
I ask you why you can't analyze
The signs of the present time
I had a dream Not unlike the one before
Of a man king who's head was made of gold
Stand castles of sand
Weather sundials rise and fall
Chasing wind through your hair
'Till the water runs dry the well
Dream, Daniel dream
For what's yet to come
See, Daniel see
For everything's under the sun
And in the west a cloud appears
Foreshadows of a coming shower near, oh so near
Hipocrit!
You analyze the earth and the sky
I ask you why you can't analyze
The signs of the present time
Vanity, yes all is vanity
Vanity, yes all is futility
For one that dies, another's born
Where laughter's heard comforters mourn
There's a time for everything
A song for love, even abhor
An olive branch or a winter's war
There's a time for everything
Under the sun
Part 2 and 3 to come...

April 30th 2003, 02:56 AM
EVERYTHING UNDER THE SUN
Part 2
"Am I Ever Gonna Change?"
I'm tired of being me
And I know not what I see
I'm not who I appear to be
So I start off every day
Down on my knees I will pray
For a change in any way
But as the days go by
I live through another lie
Is it any wonder why?
Am I ever gonna change
Will I always stay the same
I say one thing and I do the other
Same old song that goes on forever
Please tell me if it's true
Am I too old to start anew
Cause that's what I want to do
But time and time again
When I think I can
I fall short in the end
So why do I even try
Will it matter when I die
Can anyone hear my cry?
Am I ever gonna change,
will I always be the same
I say one thing and I do the other
Same old song that goes on forever
Am I ever gonna change
I just take it day by day
My will is weak and my flesh too strong
This peace I seek
Till thy kingdom comes
efta777
April 30th 2003, 03:00 AM
Part 3:
"Who Cares?"
Tell me, jesus,
Are you angry
One more sheep has
Just gone astray
A hardening of harts
Turning to stone
Wandering off
So far from home
So many children
Losing time
Lost in darkness
Looking for a sign
Chasing their rainbow
Future looks bright
Slowly they're losing
Sight of the light
Who cares
Who cares
Who cares
Tell me who cares
Who cares
All alone
Out in the cold
Can't look back
Am I growing old
I chose my path
Is this my fate
Am I finding out
The truth too late
Who cares
Who cares
Who cares
Tell me who cares
Who cares
Here I am
A naked man
Nothing too high
With empty hands
Remember me
Well I am the one
Who lost his way
Your prodigal son
Who cares
Who cares
Who cares
tell me who cares
Who cares
Am I ever gonna change
Will I always stay the same
Say one thing and I do the other
Same old song that goes on forever
Rise, rise and shine
A new day is coming
YES IT IS!

II Sides to Every Story is one of the better albums out there, but I don't think it got its due. Whats really funny is that I think the three songs you just rehashed, are the best on the album. They got the worse reviews on the album as well.
Oh well, guess thats why I'm a prog fan.

this is a very difficult one. but I'll stay with good old BB King:
Into the Night
Caught in a quicksand
And I'm starting to sink
So tired of struggling
That my mind can barely think
I don't know where I'm going
Lord, I don't know what I'm gonna do
My fuel supply is finished
Ain't nothing left to burn
I need someone to help me
But I don't know which way to turn
I know I don't have much of a choice
I'll go out of my mind
Or into the night
I'm rolling and tumbling
Spinning end over end
Got to have some peace and quiet
So I can find myself again
Ask me what's the matter
Hey, I don't know what to say
There's people all around me
But I feel so alone
I guess they'd like to help me
But I have to do it on my own
I know I don't have much of a choice
I'll go out of my mind
Or into the night

Lateralus by TooL
Black then white are all i see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see.
as below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn beyond the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.
Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition, missing opportunities and I must
Feed my will to feel my moment drawing way outside the lines.
Black then white are all i see in my infancy.
red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me.
lets me see there is so much more and
beckons me to look thru to these infinite possibilities.
as below, so above and beyond, I imagine
drawn outside the lines of reason.
Push the envelope. Watch it bend.
over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
Withering my intuition leaving opportunities behind.
Feed my will to feel this moment urging me to cross the line.
Reaching out to embrace the random.
Reaching out to embrace whatever may come.
I embrace my desire to
I embrace my desire to
feel the rhythm, to feel connected enough to step aside and weep like a widow
to feel inspired to fathom the power, to witness the beauty,
to bathe in the fountain,
to swing on the spiral
to swing on the spiral
to swing on the spiral of our divinity and still be a human.
With my feet upon the ground I move myeslf between the sounds and open wide to suck it in.
I feel it move across my skin.
I'm reaching up and reaching out. I'm reaching for the random or what ever will bewilder me.
what ever will bewilder me.
And following our will and wind we may just go where no one's been.
We'll ride the spiral to the end and may just go where no one's been.
Spiral out. Keep going.
Spiral out. Keep going.
Spiral out. Keep going.
Spiral out. Keep going.
Spiral out. Keep going.

Third Eye by TooL
Dreaming of that face again.
It's bright and blue and shimmering.
Grinning wide and comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes.
On my back and tumbling
down that hole and back again
rising upand wiping the webs and the dew from my withered eye.
In Out In Out In Out
A child's rhyme stuck in my head.
It said that life is but a dream.
I've spent so many years in question
to find I've known this all along.
"So good to see you. I've missed you so much.
So glad it's over. I've missed you so much.
Came out to watch you play. Why are you running away?
Came out to watch you play. Why are you running?"
Shrouding all the ground around me.
Is this holy crow above me.
Black as holes within a memory
and blue as our new second sun.
I stick my hand into his shadow
to pull the pieces from the sand.
Which I attempt to reassemble
to see just who I might have been.
I do not recognize the vessel,
but the eyes seem so familiar.
Like phosphorescent desert buttons
singing one familiar song...
"So good to see you. I've missed you so much.
So glad it's over. I've missed you so much.
Came out to watch you play. Why are you running away?
Came out to watch you play. Why are you running away?"
Prying open my third eye.
Prying open my third eye.
Prying open my third eye.
Prying open my third eye.
So good to see you once again. I thought that you were hiding from me.
And you thought that I had run away. Chasing the tail of dogma.
I opened my eye and there we were.
So good to see you once again I thought that you were hiding from me.
And you thought that I had run away. Chasing a trail of smoke and reason.
Prying open my third eye.
Prying open my third eye.
Prying open my third eye.
Prying open my third eye.

Dolemite:
Hootchie Cootchie Man (Muddy Waters)
A gipsy woman told my mother
before I was born
"I got a boy child coming
He's gonna be a son of a gun.
He's gonna make pretty womens
jump and shout
then the world wanna know
what's this all about
But they know I'm him
Everybody knows I'm him
I'm the Hootchie Cootchie Man
Everybody knows I'm him
I got a black trombone
I got a mojo too
I got a ... guadaloupe
I'm gona mess with you
I'm gonna make you girls
Lead me by the hand
Then the world will know
the Hootchie Cootchie Man
Everybody knows I'm him
I'm the Hootchie Cootchie Man
Everybody knows I'm him
On the seventh hour
On the seventh day
On the seventh month
The seven doctors say
"He was born to good luck
And that you see
I got seven hundred dollars
don't you mess with me
But you know I'm him
Everybody knows I'm him
I'm the Hootchie Cootchie Man
Everybody knows I'm him

Hudos, Dolemite! Muddy Waters was the best! I've got several CD's of his music, & Hootchie Cootchie Man is one of his greatest! Also "Mannish Boy"- that's the kind of blues that I like-the (what I call-"Get Down-&-Dirty Blues!). As far as my song--although I don't know the words off hand-would have to be the song-"WHEN GOD RAN". It is the story of the prodigal son-something I was untill I came back to the Lord 1/11/03! I heard it on Madison's Christian Radio Station WNWC-102.5 FM, While I was on that long drive to work! While I was listening to it, I was absolutly crying, because it was exactly the way I was, & how Jesus accepted me back into His family! PRAISE GOD! The other two songs that I can closley identify with are SHOUT TO THE LORD & PRESS ON, because they describe my love for the Lord, & my daily journey in my Christian walk! As believers, we really DO press on sometimes!

Smashing Pumpkins: "Muzzle"
I fear that I am ordinary, just like everyone
To lie here and die among the sorrows
Adrift among the days
For everything I ever said
And everything I’ve ever done is gone and dead
As all things must surely have to end
And great loves will one day have to part
I know that I am meant for this world
My life has been extraordinary
Blessed and cursed and won
Time heals but I’m forever broken
By and by the way...
Have you ever heard the words?
I’m singing in this song?
It’s for the girl I’ve loved all along
Can a taste of love be so wrong?
As all things must surely have to end
And great loves will one day have to part
I know that I am meant for this world
And in my mind as I was floating
Far above the clouds
Some children laughed I’d fall for certain
For thinking that I’d last forever
But I knew exactly where I was
And I knew the meaning of it all
And I knew the distance to the sun
And I knew the echo that is love
And I knew the secrets in your spires
And I knew the emptiness of youth
And I knew the solitude of heart
And I knew the murmurs of the soul
And the world is drawn into your hands
And the world is etched upon your heart
And the world so hard to understand
Is world you can't live without?
And I knew the silence of the world
For the moment, anyway
