Unaccredited Doctoral Degrees??

There seems to be a proliferation of ministers obtaining unaccredited doctorates, many of whom have little previous academic training. What is the benefit of such degrees, pro & con?

Can you give some specific examples of such degrees? I know many ministers with D.Mins and a few with Ph.D's and all of them from accredited universities or colleges. I'm not aware of of others though I have heard stories about some of the more prominant Televangelists.

I also wonder about ministers of free churches who suddenly call themselves Bishops and Apostles. Who says? How do you get such a lofty title?
