in Australia, any member of the phalanger (q.v.) family of marsupial mammals. For phalangers called flying possums, see glider. For American marsupials of similar name, see opossum.

Possum is the Ozark spelling. I live in the Ozarks (actually the northern edge of it, but still in it). When I move to someplace fancy like New England or California I may start spelling it with an O, but if you're going to read an Ozarker's post you'll have to deal with Ozarker's spellings.
And I hope Kaz isn't even remotely possum like. I'll admit, the Australian ones are cute, but have you ever seen a North American possum up close after it's had its head inside of a carcass (sometimes its own kind)?
No possum that comes across my property leaves alive, unless I'm too busy or too tired to take care of it.
