I found this on the Infidels site while searching for info on John 8:58. Some guy [atheist] critisizing Trin proof-texts. However I noted something interesting [bold]:

John is the principal but not the only source for Jesus' supposed claims to be God. Recently some apologists have pointed to Ethelbert Stauffer's interpretation of Mark 14:62, to provide another such claim. According to Stauffer, when Jesus answers his accuser's question with the phrase "ego eimi," or "I am," he is actually referring to the Jewish liturgical theophany formula "Ani (we) Hu" ("I and he," meaning "I am he"). Thus, Jesus is supposed to be claiming possession of divinity. Stauffer comes to this conclusion from investigating extracanonical literature. [3]. This line of argumentation is summarized and applauded by Buell and Hyder [4] and Yamauchi. [5]

You can find the above here (http://www.infidels.org/library/modern/robert_price/beyond_born_again/chap7.html).

Here is the footnote:

[3]Ethelbert Stauffer, Jesus and His Story (New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1960), pp. 183-184, cited in H. J. Schoeps, Paul, the Theology of the Apostle in the Light of Jewish Religious History (Philadelphia: Westminster PRess, 1961), p. 161; cited by Edwin M. Yamauchi, "Passover Plot or Easter Triumph? A Critical Review of H. Schonfield's Recent Theory," Appendix A to John Warwick Montgomery (ed.), Christianity For the Tough-Minded (Minneapolis: Bethany Fellowship, 1973), pp. 267-268.

You can purchase the book itself here (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00005XJZG/qid%3D1047786193/sr%3D11-1/ref%3Dsr%5F11%5F1/103-5735629-8677453#product-details) at Amazon.

Would anyone have access to this book by chance? If so, what extracanonical literature is it he cites.

I think Jaltus had cited a source at the other place regarding this same type of thing but I can't remember precisely what it was (?). Was this it or similar?

-Thanks and God bless-

I have Schoeps (Got it for $1 at a library sale) and he does not cite what extra-biblical source Staufer used for this though Schoeps supports the idea.
