anyone care to define the term "theology" for me? my understanding is that it is from the greek:
theo(s) = god
logos = logic, knowledge
however, i used this basic definition recentlly, and someone stopped to correct me, saying this definition is much too indirect and over-simplified, and that it should NOT be so broad as to encompass people who do not study god from a christian perspective. thus: theology should really only apply to christians. he went on to say that theology is not only the study of god, but the science of communication and relationship between the physical realm and the spiritual realm (yes, he said not only god, but angels, spirits, etc.).
anyone care to share their thoughts with me on this one? is theology limited to christianity? and does the study of god necessitate communication with him?
