In a biblical context, "ancient near east." Sometimes specifically The Ancient Near East (Princeton, 1958), a 2 volume "anthology of texts and pictures". Most of the translations there are from Ancient Near Eastern Texts Relating to the Old Testament (Princeton, 1955), usually abbreviated ANET. Both were edited by James B. Pritchard.
