I've started reading a book on the history of the church in the US, A religious history of the united states by Gaustad which has been really useful, describes many american movements in some detail, and goes back to about 1600 or so. it also includes some social environment background. It's been very good, and so i'd like to go ahead and start looking for a good comparable history on some other areas of the world. In particular, i'd like a history of the church in europe over the last 2-300 years, a history of the church in the far east (india/china/japan) and one of the near east (this one over the past 1000 years or so). Can anyone recommend to me here? Thanks! I do have Latourette's history, though i haven't read it yet, as well if that will answer a lot of my questions. Most histories avoid the east though, and especially after reading Jenkins' accounts (in the next christendom) of christian adventures in especially japan and china, I'd like to know more about the eastern history of the church.
Thanks!
