Wow! An entire section on dispensationalism!
I'm falling in love with this site already.
Anyways, has anyone read Ryrie's book? I just ordered it. I'm a huge apologetics dude on Calvinism, but as for disp., I'm a rookie. Well, I'll see y'all around I guess.
HI!

Will,
I read a book of Ryrie's back around 1985, I think it was called "Dispensationalism Today".
It was helpful for understanding the basics of the more Classic Dispensational mindset.
Not a bad starting point.

BTW, I've always wondered something. I'm pre-trib for several reasons. I'm dispensationalist because there are so many inconsistensies within the Scriptures that I would not be able to reconcile otherwise.
How is the pre-trib rapture and dispensationalism linked? I know it is. I just don't see the link in the chain from here. TTYL Jesus loves you!

I don't see the link in the chain either, which is why I'm not much of a pre-tribber (I could buy either pre-trib or pre-wrath at this point, leaning toward the pre-wrath viewpoint). I don't think it's inherant from Dispensational Hermeneutics, but it is the conclusion that most Dispensationalists hold to (and is typical of Old and Classic Dispensationalism, and is taught at DTS).
The issue is that the true church cannot be subject to the wrath of God, since the true church is redeemed by Christ. A pre-tribber will suggest that this is accomplished by the rapture. A post tribber will suggest that the church will be protected through the time of God's wrath on earth.

Dear Will: Please clarify if you would like interaction only from other dispensationalists or would like contra-dispensational input as well.

Will,
I would also reccomend that you read the two books put out by Blaising and Bock Progressive Dispensationalism and Dispensationalism, Israel and the Church. The advocate a modified version of Dispensationalism that IMHO has removed many of the problems of Classic Dispensationalism. But to get another perspective, I'd also recommend the book by VanGemeren The Progress of Redemption: The Story of Salvation from Creation to the New Jerusalem. Now granted he is Premil, to get some non-Premil views I would reccomend that either you checkout Blaising Three Views on the Millennium and Beyond or something others here would be glad to reccomend on this subject. The reason I put this forward is that the mroe you see the best writings of the alternative positions the better you will be able to defend your own perspective without resorting to straw men.
