You are invited to support whatever view you hold of the 'rapture' by quoting Jesus Christ as recorded in the inspired Word of God.

Okay, I'll just paste this into the correct thread now:
The 'evidence' for those who believe in a rapture is not mainly found in the words of Christ, but elsewhere in the New Testament, and some in the old. Are you limiting it to ONLY the words of Christ?
Keep in mind that I'm just saying this for reference, seeing as how I'm a preterist and all, but I was just curious as to weather or not it was being limited to Christ. And here's a question, if Christ didn't mention something that is found clearly in other places in the NT (Though he didn't say anything against it either), does that affect your view on the issue?

This thread is concerned with quotes from Jesus Christ and the use of those specfics in support of doctrine(s) so I dont see how your question applies.

John 17:15-20
15 I pray not that thou shouldest take them out of the world, but that thou shouldest keep them from the evil.
16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.
18 As thou hast sent me into the world, even so have I also sent them into the world.
19 And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.
20 Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word;
(KJV)
Of course this has no application for Acts 9ers (X9ers?) . Too bad, because niether does 14;16-16;7...

Hitch,
I jettisoned "rapture" years ago but the question from efta777 is valid. It's never okay to artificially cut things up in God's Word. Dispensationalists cannot hold their water if they can't chop things up and call it "rightly dividing." It is hard to see the use in applying the same exercise with the Gospels. Christ gave Paul the revelation to fulfill the Word of God. So does that mean we can include the Church Epistles as the words of Christ? And the letters in the first several chapters of Revelation? Those are words from Christ too. As a matter of course, If we built doctrine only on the Red Words we would still be obligated to keep the whole Law and teach others to keep it also. Right?
It's a set up. Like Lucy holding the football for Charlie Brown. :bonk:
sincerely,
Carl

Carl Dont you think our Lord' quotes make a good starting point?
Those who positively view rapturism need to counter what Jesus actually said that is in conflict. And His prayer that 'they not be take out of the world' would be seen on every TV church banner and ever bilboard in America ,,,if only it said the opposite. So I reckon its fair. Can you remember in your days of rapturism many sermons based on John 17?
