I heard this yesterday morning on the radio. My first thought was that it puts a hole in the ol' evo tales (or should that be tails  ) about why gays are "born gay" you know those stories that claim gays are nature's way of stemming population when it is needed and other such speculations.

My initial response was "1 in 100 is an awfully high percentage." I really don't think it's even near that high. Maybe 1 in 1000. A full 1%? Doubtful.

I don't doubt it at all. Maybe that would be high among men - but seriously I would very very easily believe that is true among women.

Sounds like my husband.
I agree with Dee Dee, I doubt very highly if there are very many asexual women.

Elysian you misunderstood me. I doubt it is one percent of men. I have no problem believing that figure or even higher for women. I think as women become more and more independant and self-supporting (not comemnting on whether that is good or bad) such will become more obvious.

True. I was seeing what you said through my POV, which is really frustrating and backwards. I am a woman with high drive, and my husband has none. Suffice to say this is not an easy situation to deal with and not a terribly pleasant way to live. Celibacy AND having to wait on a man hand and foot.

Wow! Impressive! How you got from that story to homosexuality is awesome. I mean, what a huge jump. That's the largest jump I've ever seen. Congrats!

I would believe it of women also but I'd think the percentage would be much higher.

I would have to agree with AG. I just hope that none of the other women have to endure both the obligations of marriage (i.e. cooking for, cleaning up after, fetching for, etc.) and celibacy at the same time. That is NOT a pleasant situation if you happen to enjoy sex. All the crud and drudge, with none of the fun.

Does not having sex because I am not married mean I am asexual? or nonsexual?
(I am attracted to women btw)

No, because asexuality means you have no interest in either flavor.
It is possible to be very interested and have no outlet (because I am married but my husband is not interested in sex, I am obligated to involuntary celibacy.) Believe me, I understand.

From one form of human sexuality to another...
Oh yeah... BIG Leap... :ahem:Perhaps you don't understand the concepts well.
Sexuality
sexual or asexual
Of those that are Sexual
heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual
For trying to link homosexuality in an issue regarding asexuality is rather odd, seeing that there is no link. Look at the tree.
Sexual
|
Sexual - Asexual
|
heterosexual, homosexual, bisexual
You'll notice that the asexual branch ends. Thus showing my point.

el-wrong-o, jimmy.
sexuality includes all traits associated with X and Y chromosomes. If sex drive is turned off, this does not make an individual non-sexual. Asexuality is mostly a lack of sex drive (based on certain physiological conditions). Sex drive is not the only sex characteristic in humans. Asexual individuals will still produce eggs and sperm, demonstrate internal and external sex organs, and contain sex chromosomes.
The only way a person could be non-sexual is if they did not have sex chromosomes. If a person does not have sex chromosomes, survival would be impossible.
Asexuality, while it may seem less colorful, is a sexual orientation that is just as legitimate as heter/homo/trans/bi sexualities.

agThanks for responding with a response, rather than a simple smilie.
Perhaps I'm segregating it too much. IE, I see it as there are two seperate orientations dealt with here.
1) Your sex drive orientation
2) Your sexual orientation
The first deals with whether or not there is a drive.
The second deals on the orientation of the drive itself.
Heterosexuals, homosexuals, bisexuals all share the same trait of being sexual. The list can then get segregated even more from there. Some heterosexuals prefer different traits of the opposite sex, ie different body characteristics.
As an example we'll take three guys.
1) Asexual
2) Sexual, heterosexual, prefers athletic trim women
3) Sexual, heterosexual, prefers well-endowed women
While asexuality is an orientation, I believe its an orientation that shouldn't be compared with the child orientations of sexuality. You are either sexual or asexual. That's the dichotomy, in my opinion.

So can they reprocuce that way too?! :stunned:
but seriously I would very very easily believe that is true among women.
I'm reminded of the sinfeild episode where Jerry dates the naturist lady goddiva type who is disturbed when he trys out that lifestyle.
At their coffee shop, Elain explains why the double standard is understandable.
Elain: the female body is beautiful, not like the male body. It's all lumpy and utilitarian. It's just made to get around.
George: Some women like it.
Elain: Yeah, but they're sickies.

I must be a sickie. I appreciate the male form. A LOT.
