Gee, guys. Was it worth it?

OCTOBER 22--Meet "Al Pieda" disciples Phillip Edgar Smith and William Zachary Wolff. The Tucson men, both 24, were arrested last night after throwing custard cream pies at author Ann Coulter during her speech at the University of Arizona. Portions of the pies connected with the conservative commentator's face and shoulder, according to this police report, which quotes Smith saying that he and Wolff were "throwing the pies at her ideas not at her." Cops also noted that a post-arrest search of the assailants turned up "pieces of paper (propaganda) involving Coulter's name and the explanation of 'Al Pieda.'" Smith, a UA student, and Wolff were charged with criminal damage, a felony, and misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct, vandalism, and assault without injury. The felony charge resulted from damage to a backdrop that school officials estimated at $3000. The report describes the woven cloth backdrop as a "muslim scrim." The pie provocateurs were booked into the Pima County Jail--where the below mug shots were snapped--and scheduled for a court appearance today. If you're wondering about the sheets Smith and Wolff are wearing, they're not Bedouins. As a courtesy, the Pima jailers use them to cover the lockup's standard-issue orange jumpsuits.

Idiots.

I probably shouldn't laugh, but this part amused me somewhat.

She was talking to Hannity about it this afternoon. She said something about how they should have thought through barging in on a bunch of conservatives because, after all, "we have the men and the guns."

It looks to me like they got off relatively unhurt. Unless there are other pictures with "better" bruising? And what's with the sheet? Did they think it would be better to look like they were getting haircuts?

I agree, they're idiots. When do the liberals learn that it's much more effective to play the victim than the bully?

Oh dear, you actually don't get it do you?

The pie-chuckers will claim that they were beaten by conservatives for merely expressing disagreement with Ann Coulter's views (which were the target of the pies). They'll sue under Freedom of Speech since their rights were trampled at that meeting. False arrest, harrassment -- probably dozens of other charges forthcoming. Maybe the pie chucking was 'performance art' in a public space?

Wait for a commentator to say, "Well Bob, they sure got a stiff sentence for merely throwing harmelss pies -- one wonders if a bit of over-reaction to a harmless prank is going on here."

Yes, that's exactly what I'm talking about. Liberals throw pies and transh DNC offices, and that leaves them in a bad light. But conservatives spin the events like this so that they end up looking like victims themselves. Take your comment as an example: you just cleverly painted "Al Pieda" as calculative creeps who sue the hell out of us regular folks with the help of evil liberal lawyers, and that the evil liberal media will make them heroes. Now this is a convincing act. Stealing a campaign poster or throwing pies is not.

They were cleaned up for those photos. They had those aprons on because apparently they were pretty bloody. The one guy definitely has a broken nose.
