View Full Version : The Power of the Word

What is more beautiful than a well-turned phrase? What is more deadly than an earnest insult? What is more powerful than a poem?

The word is something that can bring life or death. A kind word from one you admire can uplift one's soul all day. A harsh word from a friend can cast a large shadow over the soul.

God's word is also something that brings life or death, but in much more vivid terms: the very soul is at stake.

NAS Psalm 119:1 How blessed are those whose way is blameless, Who walk in the law of the LORD.
2 How blessed are those who observe His testimonies, Who seek Him with all their heart.
3 They also do no unrighteousness; They walk in His ways.
4 Thou hast ordained Thy precepts, That we should keep them diligently.
5 Oh that my ways may be established To keep Thy statutes!
6 Then I shall not be ashamed When I look upon all Thy commandments.
7 I shall give thanks to Thee with uprightness of heart, When I learn Thy righteous judgments.
8 I shall keep Thy statutes; Do not forsake me utterly!

This is the picture we need to have of His word. His every word is precious. Each syllable should be treasured! We marvel at Him because of how righteous and just He truly is.

There is no such thing as true justice during this existence, as we have seen played out in life time and again. There will be true justice in the end, however, when He comes to reign over all.

Has His word touched your heart lately?
Do you admire His justice?
Does your very soul cry out for what He has to say?

Sometimes I do not. Sometimes I want to run and hide from Him because of what lurks in my soul, afraid He will indeed forsake me.

My question is asked and answered:

9 How can a young man keep his way pure? By keeping it according to Thy word.
10 With all my heart I have sought Thee; Do not let me wander from Thy commandments.
11 Thy word I have treasured in my heart, That I may not sin against Thee.
12 Blessed art Thou, O LORD; Teach me Thy statutes.
13 With my lips I have told of All the ordinances of Thy mouth.
14 I have rejoiced in the way of Thy testimonies, As much as in all riches.
15 I will meditate on Thy precepts, And regard Thy ways.
16 I shall delight in Thy statutes; I shall not forget Thy word.

Amen.
