Just out of curiousity how many here have ever witnessed (Live or otherwise recorded) a debate between a Christian Pastor, Priest, etc. and a Traditional Rabbi (Say, Orthodox or Chassidic)?
If you have heard a real debate between the two have you ever heard the Rabbi "lose" the debate?
And if you can can you site the debate participants, date, and/or moderator?
I'm interested in this because I have never actually seen a live debate (Or a recorded one) between a qualified Rabbi and Chrisitan Minister. And those I have heard about always end with the Rabbi in victory. Are there any of these debates on the net? I have had no luck finding them but perhaps some of you can.
Shalom

Welcome to Tweb, soulfire.
Rabbi Tovia Singer of Outreach Judaism has debated one of the Messianic leaders in the past, I believe it can be obtained from his website, as well as his opponents.
Rabbi Schmuely Boteach debated Dr. Michael Brown not too long ago, I'm not sure if that is avaliable in a recording or not.
When/if you order the tapes, realize that they are often edited, and each side may make it look like they won.

Yes, I have also been in the background of a few done by others. Most really Orthodox Rabbis won't do it because it serves little purpose, and they feel their time is better spent teahcing Jews to be more Jewish rather than whining in front of non-Jews about why they should leave us alone.

I wouldn't call it whining, Drashi.

I wouldn't call it whining either...I have gotten into many a discussion/debate with christians and christain pastors alike and I wasnt whining I was simply defending/attacking points made...
In Fact I Loved every minute of it....

It depends who is doing the interaction! (I heard a Larry King Interview with The head of Jews for Jesus and 2 Rabbi's some time back. They were whiney and pitiful, and David Brickner came off looking really good).
If you are trained to handle these guys, then it turn out ok. But just because you are knowledgable in Judaism doesn't mean that you are trained to be in front of people and dance with the Yetzer HaRah!

I'd be curious as to who delcared the victor in these cases.
I've seen several formal conversations between the two and I would classify that as a form of debate. However, I have never attended such a thing with "victory" as a prime goal for one or the other. I've attended them with the hope of seeing understanding achieved.
BTW, I am ordained in a Christian church and have had many such good conversations with close friends. One in particular is a Rabbi and PhD candidate from California. He invited me to study the Hebrew Scriptures with him one afternoon while we were staying with him and his wife. It was an incredible thing. He placed a copy of the scriptures in front of himself and then in front of me and then he just jumped in arguing for his point of view and I was to come along arguing dissent if I saw any. I had never done such a thing while trying to simultaneously translate from the Hebrew. It was a total new way of approaching the thing for me. As God's providence would have it, we were more or less in agreement with most of it.

most of these debates don't have a declared victor. Usually who wins is in the eyes of the beholder.

Actually, I have had several discussions with Jews (one was a Cohen) in which neither one of "these guys" was trying to 'win' anything.
We were talking about the word of God.
But you know what I have heard several times.
"So, you and I pretty much agree on everything except who the Messiah is."
Or something to that effect. In other words, the Jews are waiting for the first 'advent' of their Messiah and the Christians are waiting for the second advent of their Messiah both of whom are going to accomplish the same things.
The restoration of the Theocracy.
So, here is a question for you "guys" :
If you believe in the second advent of Elijah, why is it so hard to comprehend the second advent of the Messiah that Elijah will proclaim?
