Do we have any DSS fans here? I am starting a forum exclusively to DSS (although I'm entertaining the idea of the Cairo Genizah, the Nag Hammdi, and OT/NT/Apocrypha as well - might as well be the Biblical Studies Forum)
Well, anyone interested?

I just saw the scrolls, well not all of them, this weekend. It was very impressive!

Care to throw out some ideas? Hopefully, I'll have the thing up and running by the end of this week.

Didn't get too many replies here, but it has only been up a little. Oh well. Anyways, for those that might be interested, here's the basic layout (so far...)
Administration
Hebrew Canon
Christian Canon
Hebrew Works
Christian Works
Dead Sea Scrolls
Nag Hammadi
(Cairo Genizah)
Miscellaneous
I'll be back tomorrow to see what everyone, if anyone, has to say.

So what is your angle?
I see from your postbit that you are an atheist.

Do you mean to say that you have a web site you have constructed that is dedicated to the DSS? Or that you want to start one here?
It is an interesting subject area. One should have participants that know a bit about Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek in order to have a really top flight program. that would not be me. But I ask questions!
like, could you tell me where the treasure is buried? Wasn't that on the copper scroll?

I am new here and don't want to intrude on it. It would be more textual criticism than anything else, translations and whatnot. Also, if you saw the layout, it would be not only the scrolls, but Hebrew and early Christian works as well, including the Nag Hammadi, the Cairo Genizah, something like that.

Here's the forum so far, there's nothing there, but you are more than welcome to contribute something to get it started.

Well, anyone interested?I have always been interested in the DSS.
How old is their placement since one or more of them may contain Arabic numerals?
What is the significance ot the presence of a Roman container with definite Roman decorations that would not normally be accepted by Jews?
Was the site posibly a respository for miscellaneous left over documents from the main library in Jeruselum?

The little ||||| aren't Arabic numerals. As far as I know, none contain Arabic numerals.
The Temple priests didn't allow Roman pottery in the Temple, that's not to say that all Jews rejected the pottery.
Could have been, but I seriously doubt it. The vast evidence of a thriving walled community is far too abundant to be taken as a mere repository.
