:argh: :argh: :argh:

ATI automatically set my refresh rate to 60.

60, man!!!

And it the default Windows screen refresh rate setting does not update it! :argh: :argh:

Okay, I got it fixed.

85 is just so much nicer than 60. :yipee:

'splain please? I have this as well ... and defaulted to 60 ... what does the change to 85 do? Other than make my letters look a bit different?

It's the refresh rate; IE the rate at which the screen is drawn at. If you're used to a high rate(such as 85) you will notice a flashing at 60.(which hurts my eyes and gives me a headache, your results may vary :brow:)

If you go to Display Properties->settings->Advanced->Monitor, you can change the refresh rate. However, there is a bug that prevents this from affecting ATI's card. ATI has a driver download that will fix this.

 With all the headaches I get ... and all the time I spend on this square box ... I wonder if that could be a contributing cause?

/me runs over to the ATI site

 thanks Cir! You are my favorite geek

Seriously, I would check it out.

After using it at 60 for a long time, you hardly notice it.

Biut when I got a new monitor, I set it to 85, and realized how wonderful it is. Now I can barely stand to look at a monitor set to 60.

So, check it out. I hope it solves your headache problem. :bunny:

Hey :cir:? Did you just download the appropriate driver for your model? Or am I missing a universal download?

I installed the newest driver (9000 Pro) and it seems to be "staying" 85, even after a restart. Is that what I was looking to accomplish?

Also, do you have momentary black screens with this setting? My whole screen turned black for a split second at start-up, but came right back on ... didn't do this before the change.

I actually didn't download one. I restarted because I didn't have time to download 6 megabytes over dialup.

Fortuneatly, restarting fixed my problem.

Let me check ATI's site for info. I know for my model, not obeying the refresh rate Windows sets is a problem, but it may not be for 9000. Dunno, though.

Brb.

Okay ... if nothing else ... you prompted me to update my driver ...

This was my problem:

http://www.ati.com/support/infobase/3955.html

But, it does not seem to be a problem with 9000.

And come to think of it, I think I already upgraded my drivers. Which fixed another problem--menus taking forever to appear and disappear.(I'm guessing because of the effects...)

BTW, do you have one of those All-in-Wonders? Those are cool. :teeth:

Sher

Okay ... so mine wasn't affected .... but like I said, it was a good idea to update the driver ... so

Naw ... they were out of our budget range ... I just have the 9000 pro ... but it does have a cool TV out ... even if the picture is kinda yucky on the TV, it is fun to hook it up and let the room see where the computer operator is surfing ... the text has to be really BIG for anyone to read it ... but graphics and pictures work pretty well ... I did a "museum tour" thing and let my family watch from the other part of the room on the bigger screen.

WOW! Changing to 85 allowed me to see this cool graphic at the top of the page that I couldn't see before ... [/tongue-in-cheek]

(Looks great!)
