... and it suddenly sounds like someone is coming up the stairs,

or your cellphone has gone off,
or the door bell is ringing,
or your housemate has sneaked behind you and suddenly yelled in your left ear,

... when you rip the headphones off in startlement, there's nothing there!

anyone had similar experiences?

There's a song by a band called Norma Jean where right before the vocals come in there's a quick sample of a guy clearing his throat. In a normal stereo you can't hear it over the noise, but in headphones you can hear it loud and clear and it's placed to the right and slightly behind you. I almost jumped out of my seat the first time I heard it.

There are some songs I swear I can hear someone yelling my name, even when I'm completely alone :shifty: :noid:

I keep hearing stuff when I listen to headphones... I don't think that's natural....

Especially when I'm in my room... It's really weird.

The last good set of Headphones I owned where closed style. The only thing I'd hear would be my sister coming in my room telling me that "I'm deaf" because I didn't hear her trying to get my attention ealier because of phonecall or something...

Every time I'm sitting in my car at a green light, I could swear I hear honking and shouting.
