RZIM.org: Wellspring International reports:

In response to the high volume of inquiries we have received, we want to let you know of our involvement in the Asia tragedy relief efforts. By now we have all seen the horrific pictures of this tragedy and are learning how life-shattering this has been for thousands of people as the number of deaths continues to climb. On December 27 we received an email from one of our staff members in Chennai, India:

"Many thousands of people have died and many are still missing. Mano's [my husband's] school student went to play cricket with his friends and all of them were pulled in by the wave and they died. They found the body and funeral was today. There are so many stories like this. The city is in chaos... Please pray for the situation and for the Lord of the creation to have mercy on our cities."

Our Executive Director in Singapore writes:

"I am actually in India... The disaster is horrific and we are trying to do our best in bringing relief. Singapore was spared because the land mass of Sumatra cushioned the impact - it is only the countries across the open seas from Banda Aceh that have been very badly affected - as far as Somalia and Kenya! It is unimaginable. Please pray for people who are in desperate straits because of this tragedy!"

Another staff member from India wrote us saying he has just sobbed, and cannot eat knowing so many in his country are now without food. From all reports received, all our staff are safe, but our hearts break with them in the devastation of their cities and the incomprehensible loss of life. In light of these recent events in southern Asia, many relief organizations are funding medical needs, food, and clothing. RZIM's Wellspring International is organizing a project to help refurbish smaller schools that have been devastated and destroyed to ensure that the education of these young schoolchildren is preserved. In addition, we will actively contribute to food and clothing needs of many families struggling to recover from this devastation.

Many of you have asked how you can help, and we want to let you, as our friends, know we are actively focusing our efforts to help in this tragic situation. In our desire to maximize our impact, any financial gifts specifically designated for relief in Asia will be distributed only for this purpose.
