Woot! First thread. I think I deserve some kinda special reward or something, especially since I didn't put something utterly retarded here and have a serious question.

Anyone have a link to a reputable source that explains hydration and how many classes of water (and what constitutes a "glass" of water) you should drink per day?

The eight glasses a day of water (64 oz) is a myth put forward by Big Water. No Blood for Water!

Have you ever tried drinking a gallon of water all at once? I wouldn't recommend it. :ill:

Okay, goody. I'm doing that 64oz. I think. But I certainly don't want to be a shill for big water. But they've got their hand in everything. Even beer. Even COFFEE!!

Be careful because too much water can kill you. We had horror stories of people that went to basic training that drank too much water and died. Never would have thought of that before!

I saw a movie once I think it was 'Bringing out the dead' with Nicolas Cage, where one guy had a disease where he was addicted to water and it would kill him to drink water, like he couldn't stop drinking water.

Too much, and too little - either way your dead. Gotta be some middle ground somewhere!

Not all at once, but I was supposed to drink a gallon over four hours - might have made it if not for the salty medicine in it - and the fact that I was seeing the doc because I couldn't keep things down in the first place! :twitch: Who thinks up these things?

It all depends on what type of physical activity you do throughout the day...

When I am working out, I try to drink at least 1-1/2 gallons a day (I'm in the bathroom about every 20 minutes or so). When I'm not working out, I still drink well over 100 oz. a day. I can usually tell when I'm not getting enough water when I get weird twitches in my eyelid or cheek or fingers or anywhere.

Also, be conscious of anything you consume that dehydrates (coffee, tea, etc.)

It's so funny how anal the TIs were about us drinking water. It was only like 1 and a half canteens an hour or something like that.
