From best to worst?

My view:

1. LBJ
2. RMN
3. HST
4. WJC
5. Ford
6. Daddy Bush
7. Carter
8. Ike
9. JFK
10. Junior Bush
11. RWR

Two explanations: JFK was highly overrated though of course his tenure was cut short. Had either or both of his brothers been elected their accomplishments would've likely surpassed his easily. RMN may personally have had to wrestle with many demons, but his administration was marked by extension of the social contract; he established the EPA and proposed what became the earned Income Credit, for example. As his first Attorney General John Mitchell said, "Watch what we do and not what we say."

Top men-

Truman - ended WW2, established NATO, sacked McArthur
Nixon - stopped Vietnam - but cos of Watergate I can't make him No 1
Eisenhower - ended Korea, started moves towards Civil Rights
Reagan - ended Cold War. economically clueless
LBJ - black mark for Vietnam, but good on domestic policy
Clinton - competent president who couldn't keep his pants on
JFK - nearly ended the world
Carter - good intentions, unable to govern
Bush I - nonentity
Bush II - idiot
Ford - dolt

worst

1. LBJ Courrupt and arrogant

2. Carter the worst forein policy president since Madison an utter idiot

3. Trickey Dickey courrupt courrupt courupt

4. JFK Did nothing was courrupt would be further down most peoples list but for the sympathy vote.

5. WJC. He is everything I despise about American politicians.

After that it would be Bush the younger, who has took center stage as Mr. globalism since being relected.

Currently running 42nd is James Buchanan, the only President from PA. Grover Cleveland getting counted as just one President. I believe when all is said and done, Buchanan will have to surrender his title to Dubya as our worst President ever. Nixon is in the bottom 6 or 7 ever. Top 5, Lincoln, Jefferson, Washington, FDR, TR. Carter is bottom 10 to 12 somewhere. Reagan, Clinton, Ford, Daddy Bush all in the average middle somewhere. Kennedy and LBJ slightly above average, but not top 10.

None even come close to Renaldus Magnus... Well maybe ol Harry.

Among this list only Reagan even attempted to slow the growth of government, and had some small success. I remember Nixon for price/wage controls,,, he was a true Keyesnian .

Foriegn policy;;

Reagen hands down winner.

Domestic policy;

Reagan/Ike

Economy;

Reagan by leaps and bounds.

And kudos to Harry for being brave enough to unleash that terrible weapon when it was necessary.

Ironically enough I think in 50 years Bush the younger will be in upper quarter, he won two wars and lead the country thorugh the worst attacks in the countries history. I don't like him right now because of his running to the left particurally on immigration. In the long run he will be better remembered that Clinton or his father particurally after all the partisan BS dies down.

A little off topic...

Do you think its possible we are currently wittnessing the death-throes of the Democratic Party? Is it about to disintegrate and rmorph into something more like the party of the 50s ?

Democratic Party is disintegrating? Wow ! 56 million people voted for John Kerry dispite all the mis-information flooding the media. Honestly, I think the democrats could have put up a better candidate in Howard Dean. It didn't work out. But the best the republicans came up with was Dubya. So the republican party needs a lot of work too. The republican party used to be for cutting governent spending and staying out of people personal lives. I voted for Reagan twice and George H.W.Bush once. Somewhere along the line the Republicans have certainly done a major flip flop on those 2 fronts.

I agree with you. I think he will be in the upper quarter as well. I don't like his position on immigration either but I still like him and think that he is a good president.

John Kerry was bad but I don't think the dems would have done any better with Dean. He is so far to the left...I think he would have alienated a lot of middle America. I have no idea what the dems were thinking making him head of the DNC. YOu are correct, the best the repubs came up with was W, but I think he is a great president and therefore the repubs don't have much to work on. However, I think the party of Hillary, Boxer, Kerry, Dean, Pelosi, (hiccup) Ted Kennedy, and co. have plenty to work on. (that is why you are now seeing Mrs. Clinton moving towards the right...she knows she has no chance of winning in '08 if she does not).

Ironically enough I think in 50 years Bush the younger will be in upper drawn and quartered, he won (won as in, freed Kabul in Afghanistan where the leader wants us to relinquish control and has lost 1900+ soldiers in Iraq trying to fight an enemy for over two years with limited and relatively low success) two wars and lead the country thorugh the worst attacks in the countries history (which oddly enough he did nothing to prevent and ignored warnings from both CIA head George Tenet and Terror Czar Richard Clarke). I don't like him right now because of his running to the left particurally on immigration. In the long run he will be better remembered that Clinton or his father particurally after all the partisan BS dies down and if people just completely forget about the failures.

And this is ignoring Katrina. Man...

9/11 we couldn't have known that would happen.
Iraq War we never foresaw such an abrasive resistence
Katrina we never knew the levees would break

George W. Bush ... the Know Nothing President.

Whoa! Da Blonde. my list would be almost completely opposite of yours. Just turn it upside down. I would shuffle a few of the ones in the middle but it is close enough as is.

Sorry to interrupt the liberal back patting party.

Sorry to interrupt the liberal back patting party.Interesting. The President that puts the US into substantial debt that we still haven't eliminated nearly 20 years later, negotiated with terrorists (read gave the terrorists in Iran weapons in exchange for hostages), and fled from Lebanon after he helped get over 200 US Marines slaughtered making us look relatively vulnerable to terrorism is #1 in your book. The guy who has given us the wonders of 9/11, Homeland "Red Tape" Security, the self-perpetuating Iraq War, and the Hurricane Katrina relief effort is #2.

Well, atleast you are consistent.

1. Reagan
2. Bush II

Strange. Leaving alone the kneejerk Bush defending, what has he done for America? Or more importantly how has America imroved during his presidency? I am genuinely interested.

1. Eisenhower
2. Truman
3. Reagan
4. Nixon
5. LBJ
6. Clinton
7. Bush II
8. Ford
9. Bush I
10. JFK
11. Carter

Notes: Ike and Harry are almost a tie. Reagan gets credit for being a cowboy correctly (unlike the current POTUS), whether you like cowboys or not, he did it right. Clinton has grown on me, he was a centrist when a centrist was needed. JFK almost killed us all and Carter was an ineffectual nitwit. Bush II is a nitwit, but at least he's decisive. LBJ, but for VietNam would probably have gone number 3.

6. Bill Clinton
7. Lyndon Johnson
8. George Bush (current president)
9. Harry S Truman
10. Ronald Reagan
11. FDR

I wasn't sure where to put Nixon.

From best to worst?

My view:

1. LBJ ."
_ I am from TEXAS --------- he was a corrupt individual --- ."
2. RMN - tough one ----- I think he was a good leader and man but had misplaced loyalities to his party and friends ."[/QUOTE]
3. HST
- fired Mac Arthur but had the wisdom to use the bomb to end the war."
4. WJC
- with his wife and cronies, a man who attempted to destroy the diginty and honour the Office of The Presidency, a liar, dishonest individaul, and also used the military for political gains."
5. Ford
- just hung on thru diffcult time."
6. Daddy Bush
- should have stayed true to message of Reagan - actually have meet him
7. Carter
- a complete utter failure, a man of limited abilities who attempted to rescue the hostages for political gain and instead caused needless losses and loss of face."
8. Ike - a good Military Leader who couldn't stand upto congress on issues, too use to taking orders from above."
9. JFK
- short Tenrue, but stood upto the commies and did what he thought was right (plus he had a better lookin girlfriend than billy boy) and on this note when DID THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY become anti miltary has a stance? certainly not under JFK."
10. Junior Bush
- a man who has lead the country thru a terrible chapter in our history but has been much maligned, falsely, for political and rheotric issues ."
11. RWR
- A great man, I named my 1st born after him."

1. Ford --didn't do much, which contrary to popular belief, is usually a good thing.
2. Eisenhower--enforced integration, ended Korean War, nominated Brennan and Warren to Supreme Court.
3. Reagan--despite bellicose reputation, kept the country at peace, negotiated with USSR.
4. Kennedy--good: space program, resolved Cuban missile crisis. bad: launched war in S. Vietnam
5. Carter--got in at a bad time, but preserved peace
6. Clinton--The Boss Hogg of the Presidency. Handled economy well.
7. Bush I--Launched unnecessary war.
8. Nixon--War criminal.
9. (tie) Truman, Johnson, Bush II--Out-and-out war criminals and ignorant hicks.

In the 5 years since this thread, Clinton is up and Bush Jr. is down.

Obama - kind of in the middle. Too cautious. A+ on his Supreme Court picks though.

Not a lot to draw from. Not a big fan of most of the recent presidents. Though it looks like most of the posters on this thread are communists, so I can see why they are confused.

1. Reagan - Easily the best president since the 1920s.
2. Eisenhower.
3. JF Kennedy - Had a vision for the country, improved economic growth in the 60s, and was the last president to actually reduce the debt. (Without phony accounting)
4. Nixon - Did some screwball things, but compared to the rest.
5. Bush Sr. - Might have won a second term if he didn't cave to the Dems
6. Truman - cut spending and initiated the postwar boom
7. Clinton - The last president who knew how to work with the other side.
8. Ford - Maybe if he had more time.
9. FDR - Prolonged the depression. Would be lower, but he at least he could fight a war and didn't like national debt..
10. GW Bush - Destroyed the conservative brand, and paved the way for the current disaster.
11. Hoover - Bad policies turned a recession into a depression.
12. LBJ - Responsible for kicking off the unsustainable govt spending spiral. (+ the war which destroyed most of what JFK could have achieved.)
13. Jimmy Carter - Almost as clueless as #12.
14. Barack Obama - A total disaster since he was elected. Prolonging the current recession like FDR, but with tons more debt.
