Okay, guys, I'm doing an exegesis paper on Daniel 9:20-27. I was wondering if anyone had any good resources to offer or any advice in general. The particular format for this paper does not allow for it regard only the eschatological aspects of the passage, so I'll need to find some other stuff to talk about as well.
Here's the basic instructions:
Write a 1000-1500 word paper using the following outline:
1. Introduction
2. Historical Analysis
3. Grammatical Analysis
4. Literary Analysis
5. Theological Analysis
6. Conclusion
Now, the sections don't necessarily need to be balanced, so the section on Theological Analysis will probably be significantly larger than the other sections. But if anyone could help me find information on Historical Analysis, and Grammatical Analysis, it would be much appreciated. I will also post this in Biblical Exegesis 301.
Thanks
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
I've been studying what the church fathers had to say about Bible prophecy in my spare time. It appears Clement of Alexandria felt all the 70 weeks had been fulfilled. His pupil and successor Origen took a different view. He felt the weeks had only been fulfilled up to the time of Christ. I think that is the view of most of the early church fathers. I'll list my notes but they may not all pertain to the 70 weeks.
My own opinion is that the events are given in reverse order.
9:27 abomination of desolation
9:26 destruction of Jerusalem
9:25 Jerusalem rebuilt (Jerusalem has to be destroyed before it is re-built. Also, troublous times equate to a time like no other.)
9:24 end of prophecy
This isn't your traditional historical view, but consider this, Gabriel came to explain the previous vision. Gabriel is mentioned only two places in the OT, chapters 8 and 9 of Daniel, so the events in chapter 9 should correspond to the events in chapter 8. In 8 we have these events described in 12 & 13.
transgression that causes desolation
sanctuary cast down
sanctuary cleansed
end of the vision
So if the explanation in 9 matches 8, then it has to be in reverse order,
Here are the notes I'm compiling on the church fathers.

DanielI would look at the connections with Leviticus 26, Jeremiah 29, and 2 Chronicles 36:22ff. But also of literary note, and I don't know how helpful it will be but this is the only chapter in Daniel where Yahweh occurs. That could be significant or not for your paper, but generally it denotes the covenant relationship with Israel, which further links it up to Leviticus 26 (which is good for me and my dissertation )
