I thought some articles on sleep would be interesting since I think my feeling tired during the day could be over sleeping at the moment.
I found during the holidays I was sleeping 6-7 hours since I was going to bed late and getting up late in the morning... I actually thought I was sleeping in ::lol: now the kids are back at school again I find I am reallly tired and can hardly stay awake I have been going to bed earlier but getting about 8 hours sleep... so I was wondering what effects over sleeping had and it appears too much sleep is as bad as not enough... tonight I am going to try waking up an hour earlier... since I have been waking up naturally around then and going back to sleep for the extra hour because I thought I needed to
so heres some articles on sleep

Tips on getting Better Sleep
JACKSONVILLE, FL -- Sleep is something most people say they don't get enough of. How much sleep should you get every night? Is too much sleep bad for you?

Researchers are constantly doing studies on this issue. One new study has found people who sleep about seven hours a night live longer. Sleep Specialist Dr. Mitchell Rothstein says some research shows people who sleep longer than 10 hours a night have a shorter life expectancy. He doesn't know why.

Sleep is energy conservation for the body. Rothstein says people should get enough sleep so they don't feel tired. For the average adult, that's about 7 to 8 hours a day. Most do break up their sleep with a nap.

sleep how much do you really need
Everyone’s tried it. Sometimes you’ve stayed awake long into the night, but eventually you are too tired to stay awake any longer, and you just have to sleep.

It’s crazy. In your lifetime you will spend almost 25 years asleep. People differ in the amount of sleep they need, but on average, young adults need about 8.5 hours sleep each night. This falls to about 7.5 hours as a person gets older.

WHY DO WE SLEEP?

Why do we bother? No one is really sure, but one possible explanation is that we sleep so we can dream.

DID YOU KNOW?

* Dreaming is vital for our mental health, and everyone dreams two or three times a night
* Even if you can’t remember your dreams, you have them each night during a period of frantic brain activity known as dream sleep, or ‘REM’ sleep. REM stands for Rapid Eye Movement, and during this period of sleep, our eyes move rapidly to and fro.

WHAT HAPPENS IF YOU DON'T SLEEP?

What if you don’t sleep? The simple answer is that you die.

Wow. I'm turning 25 next month so that's quite a new perspective.

Have you been screened for sleep apnea, luv? That's what I'm going through right now

Sleeping is my very, very favourite activity, bar none. I do it a lot. I'm also in a permanent state of anger at the Western workday model, in which no time is alotted for a much-needed midday nap.

Like Hamster, I'm also often sleepy during the day. I've often wondered if I have some kind of problem. I'm pretty sure I don't have sleep apnea. I thought it might be a vitamin deficiency, but I don't see why I would have that either. :nsm: Oh well.

Too much sleep? :haha:

Ok, seriously, I know that that is possible, but I don't think I sleep too much. Actually, lately I haven't had this problem. :nsm:

Hypersomnia - excessive sleep. It is bad 'cause it makes it really hard to concentrate. Imagine every time you try to read a book you nod off after four pages!

i've actually heard that one study suggests that 8 hours isn't enough for some people.

i figure as long as it is not extreme, you go to sleep when you are tired and get up when you are not. some people can be chipper with 7 hours, others like myself clunk out if we get under 9.
