Welcome to TWeb. Please back up your assertations with scripture, because without it, what you just posted is your opinion, and nothing more.

:hi: :btc: I was wondering Bill, if you wouldn't mind sharing a few of the passages you feel suggest a Rapture event. Based on your reading, what do you imagine such an event would be like? The only image I have of a rapture is from "Left Behind."
Thanks!

Rando, I want SrChief to reply first before I say anything. It directly links into my thread on the "end of the age"

We both ended up having to drop the discussion as real life crept in...

Jesus went to the Cross and died for us. He calls us to take up our cross and follow Him. To suffer for Christ is a true blessing indeed. The rapture is a copout.

To which I would say Amen and Amen!
The rapture is a copout.
To which I would say...
1Thessalonians 4
16 For the LORD Himself shall descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the Trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up [Greek, harpazo] together with them in the clouds, to meet the LORD in the air: and so shall we ever be with the LORD".
"harpazo" is translated "caught up" in the Revelation, when describing the Ascension of the LORD Jesus Christ back into Heaven after His Resurrection.
Revelation 12
5 "And she brought forth a Man Child, Who was to rule all nations with a Rod of Iron: and her Child was caught up [Greek, harpazo] unto God, and to His Throne"
Without haggling over the timing of the rapture or the number of raptures, suffice it to say the rapture is an acceptable understanding of the event described in 1 Thes 4:16-17.

Wow. Something in eschatology that I agree with :ack: on.
(Of course I don't call the events in 1 Thes 4:16-17 "the rapture", but I certainly agree that there will be a resurrection of the dead and living at the return of Christ.)

Hello
1 THES. 4 [13] But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye SORROW NOT, EVEN AS OTHERS which have no hope. [14] For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. [15] For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. [16] For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with THE VOICE of the archangel, and with THE TRUMP OF GOD: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: [17] Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them IN THE CLOUDS, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord. [18] Wherefore comfort one another with these words.
1THES.4 – voice – clouds – trump of God – sorrow not as others -
ZEPH. 1 – voice – clouds – the trumpet – man shall cry bitterly -
ZEPH. 1 [14] The great DAY OF THE LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even THE VOICE of the day of the Lord: the mighty MAN SHALL CRY THERE BITTERLY. [15] That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a DAY OF CLOUDS and thick darkness, [16] A DAY OF THE TRUMPET and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers. [17] And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the Lord: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.
Seems the 2 above scriptures are speaking of the same event. The Day of the Lord. Theres just not enough time for a pre or mid trib rapture.

Hello,
There's no "rapture" outside of the events in Thess., which speaks of the events that usher in the closing of this "temporal" age and bring to the fullness, the eternal "age" to come. So the terminology "rapture" being synonymous with the ushering in of the eternal "age", is correct.
Some refer to this as the "rapture" that transpires in secret, that precedes the revelation of the anti-christ (bodily). In this regard, "they" are terribly mistaken. While the word does translate to "caught up", it is the "final" event relative to this NATURAL realm. In this RETURN of Christ, Satan is destroyed with the brightness of his coming (II Thess. 2:8).
Tribulation has been to ALL godly peoples, since the time of Abel, through Christ, through the church age. Rev. 7:9, 14, "peoples", are us, the believers, since the establishment of the gospel message.
WHY do you think that it is referred to as, "The great AND terrible" day of the Lord? One portion is grace and mercy, to the Godly, the believer (great); the other portion is judgment to the ungodly (terrible)! This is both Cor. and Thess.
One and the same -DAY, one and the same -EVENT!!!!!!!

Bill,
Went to your "thread" and even though it was a quick survey, I was thoroughly impressed with the "iron sharpens iron" attitude!!!!
It's where we have been called to in our walk with Christ. It is the "body" in application, where we utilize "ALL" our members in order to more clearly see Christ, his work, his will and our requirement of obedience.
Kudos to both of you!
Just thought I might inquire of one thing, hopefully to shed some light on parts of the passages that seem to defy the "proper fit" in the whole scheme of understanding!
In attempting to get a "grip" relative to the various issues that are inclusive to the resurrection, HAVE YOU CONSIDERED THE FOLLOWING:
There WAS also a bodily resurrection, of both good and evil, at the time of Christs' resurrection? This would be the "time" when he sends his angels forth to gather.....as opposed to the "resurrection" in I Thes. 4:16, where,"...the Lord himself shall descend from heaven?"
Two separate, distinct events? Possible?
One, the first, at the inauguration of Christ establishing his eternal kingdom? A great and glorious event of resurrection done in conjunction with and at the time of Christ?
Two, the finality of "ALL" things?
You might find that in considering "both", it does bring clarity to some of those "nagging" questions!
BTW, the mustard seed, the smallest, became the greatest AND in doing so provided a "dwelling, a habitation" for ALL those that came to LODGE therein! That's the work of Christ in our lives! He is our refuge!
He often spoke of these "parables", in direct reference to himself.
"KOH is like a woman who hid LEAVEN in three measures of meal....", once again this is Christ (leaven).
Three measures (?): JEW, SAMARITAN AND GENTILE - "...your whole SPIRIT, SOUL AND BODY" (II Thess. 5:23) - PROPHET, KING AND PRIEST. Just to mention a few.
Have you noticed that Christ begins his work, in our heart, our innermost being, but WHEN it is complete (til the whole was leavened) -we are wonderfully redeemed, in our entirety? :teeth: :teeth: :teeth:
Didn't mean to hi-jack the thread,
Bless,
D
