Piebald
February 14th 2005, 11:27 PM
Keep in mind -- a sprite is different from an animated GIF. It is a specific sort of.. graphic.. mainly used in 2-D videogame systems like NES, SNES, and Game Boy/Advance.

I don't know what Rum Tum Tugger means :teeth:

The Rum Tum Tugger is a Curious Cat:

If you offer him pheasant he would rather have grouse.
If you put him in a house he would much prefer a flat,
If you put him in a flat then he'd rather have a house.
If you set him on a mouse then he only wants a rat,
If you set him on a rat then he'd rather chase a mouse.
Yes the Rum Tum Tugger is a Curious Cat -
And there isn't any call for me to shout it:
For he will do
As he do do
And there's no doing anything about it!

The Rum Tum Tugger is a terrible bore:
When you let him in, then he wants to be out;
He's always on the wrong side of every door,
And as soon as he's at home, then he'd like to get about.
He likes to lie in the bureau drawer,
But he makes such a fuss if he can't get out.
Yes the Rum Tum Tugger is a Curious Cat -
And there isn't any call for you to doubt it:
For he will do
As he do do
And there's no doing anything about it!

The Rum Tum Tugger is a curious beast:
His disobliging ways are a matter of habit.
If you offer him fish then he always wants a feast;
When there isn't any fish then he won't eat rabbit.
If you offer him cream then he sniffs and sneers,
For he only likes what he finds for himself;
So you'll catch him in it right up to the ears,
If you put it away on the larder shelf.
The Rum Tum Tugger is artful and knowing,
The Rum Tum Tugger doesn't care for a cuddle;
But he'll leap on your lap in the middle of your sewing,
For there's nothing he enjoys like a horrible muddle.
Yes the Rum Tum Tugger is a Curious Cat -
And there isn't any call for me to spout it:
For he will do
As he do do
And there's no doing anything about it!

For everyone who would like a smiley sprite, I need to know a few things:

Hair Color and type/length, etc.
Eye Color
Accessories (e.g. sunglasses)
Preferred Clothing
Preferred Expression
Facial Hair
Any other Preference

And Last but not least: Race.

Sorry. I feel guilty about that last one because I don't judge people because of their race. However, if you want a graphical sprite that somewhat reflects your appearance, I need to know. If you don't care, I won't care

As for body type -- don't worry, everyone on the Internet is fit as a fiddle  .. unless you request otherwise.

You don't have to have a human sprite, though. I'm sure I can find something in my bag of 16-bit happiness for you.

Teallaura

I don't know what Rum Tum Tugger means :teeth:FYI - Rum Tum Tugger (in addition to the original poetry above) is one of the characters in the musical Cats - which is based on the aforementioned poetry.

Okay, out of curiousity (and for those of us who don't know and are too chicken to ask) What's a sprite as opposed to a smilie?
Incidently, I liked Old Deuteronomy - the name is just too cool!

Piebald
February 14th 2005, 11:49 PM
A Sprite has a certain kind of look. It is usually straight from a videogame. For TWeb (and/or my purposes) a smiley are those specific round little people with no legs and occasional arms

A Sprite can be a custom smiley (such as :wart: or :waterfall: ) but not all custom smileys are sprites

Just my pet programs, "Micrografx Picture Publisher" and "Jasc Animation Shop"
I haven't tried Picture Publisher. Tell me about it if you get a chance.

I use Animation Shop to do my animations though, and Paintshop pro to do general graphics work. I use MS Paint (Yes! MS Paint. I am evil.) to draw sprites in general because you can erase pixels of one color, and no others by holding the right mouse button instead of the left when erasing. Since it erases to the background color, you can do recolors in two seconds flat.

My avatar was done using vector graphics in Paintshop Pro. That way I can move anything an amount that turns out to be less than a pixel, and the program figures out how to draw it for me. Animations can be a lot more subtle and smooooth. Also, once the initial frame is drawn, I never have to draw anything again. I just make small changes. My current experiment is to see if I can create a character with a much larger repertoire of animations in this manner. Preferably with a minimum of work. I hate working...

Micrografx Picture publisher (or at least the version that I have) is pretty cool for doing basic stuff. I have Paintshop but ... I just love my ol' MPP :teeth:

I am going to start using Animation Shop more for pixel editing.. I just noticed yesterday that it can fudge with those pixels pretty well.

Long story short:

Smiley = Any small graphic that is used on a forum, mostly to express an emotion

Sprite = Graphic used in a videogame (e.g. SNES, NES, Game Boy Advance)

Back in the good old days of 2-D RPGs, the little people in the videogames were drawn really small, usually with oversized heads so you could see their facial expressions.

They looked like little fairies, so people took to calling the graphics "sprites".

A sprite, then, is essentially any 2D graphic from a videogame that isn't background, or a graphic created so that it can be used as such.

A smiley is a graphical representation of a text smiley. They are used to represent emotions and actions online.

Customer service has got to be one of the most difficult jobs!

"My nephew took my new coffee maker apart and then put it back together again, now it doesn't work, what should I do? Can I get a refund?"

"My new stereo doesn't have any sound."

"Not to mention the obvious, but is the power cord connected?"

"Well, of course it's connected!"

"Fine, what about the speakers?"

"I plugged them in myself."

"How about checking the volume level?"

"The volume level is all the way to the top."

"No hum, even?"

"Hmmm. The power cord is disconnected..."

That is a pretty normal state of being for a cat owner...especially when she has her nose stuck in a book.

OK, I"m going to indulge my vanity (not to mention that usually unindulged Goth side of my fasion taste) and make a request.

I want something along the lines of Jareth (from Labarynth), wearing what Bowie was wearing in his first scene in the movie ... the long, white, poufy hair, the cape, the whole nine yards.

"You have thirteen hours to solve the Labarynth before your baby brother becomes one of us ... forever."

For everyone who would like a smiley sprite, I need to know a few things:

Hair Color and type/length, etc. - Short, Brown (crew cut-ish)
Eye Color - Brown/Green
Accessories (e.g. sunglasses) - :nsm: A shotgun, maybe
Preferred Clothing - Countrified (plaid flannel + jeans or something, boots not shoes)
Preferred Expression - ultra-serious
Facial Hair - either 'none' or 'moustache + goatee'
Any other Preference - :nsm:
And Last but not least: White

Hamster, you are awesome! :flowers:

Okey dokey! I know I said I'd start spriting today, but I am having the Friday "Boy I'm sleepy"s, so I will most likely begin spriting tomorrow. I promise, tomorrow! Also, Monday is a holiday, so I got all day then, too!

Ooh, could I have one???

photo of me at http://www.markporter.co.uk/iow/iow-Pages/Image47.html if it helps (I've had my hair cut shorter since then see http://www.markporter.co.uk/me.jpg) and several more if you go to the next folder level up and have a browse.

Hair Color and type/length, etc. - it's brown I guess, and actually not that long now
Eye Color - erm, grey I think
Accessories (e.g. sunglasses) well I'm a musician, so a flute or sax if you like, an umbrella might be cool though, or an iMac
Preferred Clothing - blue fleece, beige jumper, or some form of t-shirt
Preferred Expression - quite neutral
Facial Hair - none
Any other Preference - erm, try to construct something from all that

February 18th 2005, 09:50 PM

Also, if I end up taking too long, do not hesitate to repost your request. I won't be offended, in fact, it helps me remember.

But don't repost until tomorrow when I'm doin' 'em

photo of me ...

Very spritely!

Accessories (e.g. sunglasses) well I'm a musician, so a flute or sax if you like, an umbrella might be cool though ...

And can play the umbrella! Could you post an mp3? That might be challenging, even for Oxford, though, I suppose "You block my Sunshine" or "Singin' out of the Rain" would be appropriate numbers...

Blessings,
Lee

Second one:

Hair Color and type/length, Dark orangey brown, little below shoulder length, pony tail or down,
Eye Color, blue, green, or hazel
Accessories (e.g. sunglasses), platform sandals,
Preferred Clothing, Brown skirt, shirt with a lot of white, nothing lacey
Preferred Expression, friendly, not overly excited but friendly

Race, Caucasian

In both of these, other accessories are welcome if they look good, and I like straighter line skirts. I’m not into flaring skirts and dresses. I would like one of these to have glasses.
