View Full Version : Closing Long Threads

It saddens me deeply as these threads have been ingrained into our history, but I've removed many of the ultra long spam threads from the forum.
The reason for that is beause these threads have far too many posts for our puny little dual xeon server to handle. (the Xavier spam thread alone was sorting through a quarter of a million posts and returning nearly 40,000 records)
I wish there was some way to avoid this, but simply is too much. Starting today, threads that reach more than 10,000 posts will be closed. I know a few threads remain that have more than that, but they will removed in short order.
If there is a great enough demand, I may offer these threads for download for historical reasons.
I apologise for this and hope you all understand.
Some of the threads removed:
Xavier's spam thread (over 38k posts)
JohnSpark's Post Count Celebration
Not one... not two... but three last poster wins threads.(I guess I started something there. And fwiw, OBP won all of them.)
Word Association Thread
Thanks for your understanding.

Dearly beloved, we are here today to pay our final respects to the victims of a tragic event. Yes, the pruning of the uberthread that took the lives of many dear dear friends.
:bawl:
The Xavier spam thread. I myself had many many post on that thread, it was a good thread and will be missed? :bawl:
And who could forget the "Last Poster" triplets? In these threads, everyone was a winner, at least for a little while. What joy these three brought to TWeb. :bawl:
Only to be stopped short, by this tragic event.
Let us pray for those touched by this great loss.
