Anyone here clued up about forum software?
I've got an Invisionboard running on a l4m3r host to play around with (s33 the s1g)... but now I need something l33t ^_^
We will be running a forum for Christians who like anime.. I'm going to be the webmaster. After playing around with the vbulletin admin demo on their site, I'm now prepared to shell out the scrilla. The forum will need the following:
Gallery - ub3ressential for people's artwork
Journals
Portal w/shoutbox (similar to this site)
Oekaki - online java drawing app - not too essential atm
Are the first three integrated with vbulletin or must I install hacks? Where can I get hacks if this is the case? any nice recommendations?
General tips for looking after a mid/large sized site would also be welcome (there is already a memberbase interested). The hosting issue has already been addressed.
Cheers!

I installed all those hacks(except for the last one), so I have some idea what it's like. :brow:
A portal is supposed to be integrated with vB 3. For the moment, you have to install a hack.
I wrote our Gallery because none of the others really fit our needs. There are some great ones out there, though.
All the hacks you've mentioned(except for the last one--I dunno) are easily installed. Just know how to back up and restore the database and you'll do fine!

arggg
trying to find a decent vB gallery.
Each user needs to be able to post more than one image, and I might need a comment system too... been trawling vbulletin.org .. the oakgallery looks nice... but is there anything else that compares with it?
tell me of these other "great ones out there"

OakGallery is good, the other one would be PhotoPost (http://photopost.com/). I can't think of any others that come integrated with vB, and has the features you want.

Photopost is an excellent choice however costly. As for the gallery keep in mind the gd lib requirements :argh:

Ahhh yes, be sure you get atleast GD2.0.
We're 1.8.3, and the quality stinks compared to 2.0.

Oh dear, that GD gallery is far too expensive.
I'm settling for an "upload your image" forum.
Currently focusing my efforts into finding a good oekaki board ...... trouble is, the installation instructions are all in Japanese... or Engrish. :teeth:
ahhh... here's a good example
Since it is cheaper than SRS Sakura as a site for members, it is transcendence recommendation. The installation place of recommendation It is alike and has written in detail.
Although when it is does not know, since the free rental of a picture bulletin board will seemingly also be started, it is an important point check.

Just out of interest, will TWeb be upgrading to vB 3?
Or is it too much hassle?
They say the new version won't be compatible with old hacks.
Our board has a few hacks, but the new version of vB contains many of the things that we hacked to get, like the portal page and such.
The website's doing great anyway - extremely active since it's been up.:teeth:

We are only waiting for it to get out of Beta phase before we upgrade. Although a lot of hacks are pre-written that we modified many hacks were also written just for the site so the upgrade will put us back a few weeks but its not like cirisme and I don't constantly hack the board anyway :hrm:
Speaking of vb3 the header images and stuff were all supposed to be with the release of vb3 but we were too impatient to wait so I released it early.
We are making a server move tomorrow which will up our capacities significantly. Already we have the gd 2.0 libs and imagemagick as well as many other really great software pre-installed which we lacked on the current server.
A christiananime site sounds like great potential and that is awesome things are going so well.

Another note, alot of the hacks we have now are unnecessary in vb3. The most high profile of these would be the similar threads.
The hack I wrote that displays the last thread title above the last poster is included, and frankly it is better than mine. :brow:
The major hacks I'll want to preserve would be the pet hack(which I majorly improved :brow:), the pearls hack,(another one I wrote, hopefully it won't be hard at all), spam/anti-spam points, and the download thread hack.(which I've improved numerous times, this time it's going to get a HUGE upgrade)
Hehehehe, so hopefully it won't be too difficult; or maybe we will just turn the server into a flaming fireball. :hrm:

I just found a translated Oekaki BBS for your website......
I've tried that, and it's actually not that good. Thankfully I found a very good php driven package:
www.suteki.nu
This particular version uses english translations of OekakiBBS and PaintBBS, and includes some simple php BBS software. It is all integrated together. This is what we have installed on our site. However it doesn't integrate into vBulletin, so users have to register seperate accounts. As yet, I haven't seen any integrated vBulletin oekaki solutions. It does the job for us though ^_^
I'm glad you like the site :teeth:
