General Notice: Once again the prevailing tone here has gotten out of hand and is disruptive to the general goals of this Site. It is not that any one thing is necessarily violative of the rules but the sheer volume of aggression and biting is disruptive. Thus the Science section of this Site will be placed on heavy moderation status for one month. We hope that this will assist in giving everyone a breather and the tension can be eased up somewhat. This is not to be taken as determinative rules for the Site as a whole. We still encourage debate that can at times be aggressive and satirical. This Notice will be updated as needed. These stricter standards again are temporary measures to restore some semblance of sanity.
1. There will be no “name calling” unless is absolutely necessary to prove the point. This rests in the discretion of the Moderators. This includes normally allowable non-gratuitous names for this temporary period. For example even if so and so is demonstrably being an idiot, unless it is vital to point it out, don’t. This will include such adjectives as bigot, anti-science, cult, deluded, liar, etc. though again in moderation these terms are not normally against guidelines. This includes signature lines and bylines. Repeated violations of this rule once the posters get a feel for where the Moderators are coming from may place a poster in moderation. Repeated violations by any user in moderation may result in suspension from this site.
2. For this period of time, if using a member’s name at all, you may shorten it but please do not add any endings to it. This to me is a soundly petty complaint, but some are highly offended and for this period of time its use is suspended.
3. There will zero tolerance for any identity speculation. There may be no warnings. Anyone engaging in this may be suspended from the site for a period of three months.
4. There will be zero tolerance for the continual breaking of the rule to respect the decisions of the Moderators and to take up your grievances in the proper venues here or on Infidels. There may be no warnings. Anyone engaging in this may be suspended from the Site for a period of three months.
5. It rests within the discretion of the Moderators to curb any other behaviour which is disruptive to the purpose of this one month respite as well as determine if suspensions are merited.
Let’s get back to debating issues and not personalities please. That is the goal.
What will be tolerated during this period in limited use is colorful adjectives such as whined, belched, etc. However, their overuse will be considered overly disruptive and goading. Use of stick-poking and bonking smileys is still of course acceptable. Please do not look for a reason to be offended and use this period as a weapon to club the particular poster(s) you do not like. Such transparent manipulation tactics will be not regarded kindly.
