Great news from Uprok Records... Our very own KJ-52 had his video for "Dear Slim" air on MTV's Total Request Live (TRL) this past Friday. To say "it now has a huge buzz surrounding it" would be an understatement! The entire music community is buzzing with talk on the video and the song. Fans and new audiences alike have participated in discussions on message boards across the internet, as many others chose to write in to KJ-52 directly and offer their reactions.

One fan known as Pat wrote, “Wuttup KJ I heard that joint Dear Slim on MTV, and at first I was like 4 get this hater. But I read the lyrics and I was impressed. Even though I love Eminem, I like your song and I understand what you’re trying to get across.... One Love.”

Trevor wrote KJ-52 through his website and had this to say after seeing the video on MTV, “KJ I don't know if this email will ever reach you. Before today at 4pm I was a complete Eminem fan. At first you seemed to be just another ‘wanna be’ white rapper. I saw your Dear Slim video. Your song really reached out and grabbed me. After the show I went over to my computer and downloaded your song. After I listened to it, I realized that your message was different. You weren't rapping about sex, drugs, and killing. You weren’t dissin Em. I also realized that the music I listen to just desensitizes me to all of these things. I never thought religious music could be just as good as the music that I listen to on the radio. I think it was really brave of you to stand up to the big bad wolf, what a better way to promote your teachings. The song was a reality check. If slim fights back with a diss song he is making a big mistake. I admire your dedication. You could be making millions but you rather be teaching millions. That is what touched me. Thanks.”

When KJ-52 was questioned about his initial reaction on the video, he replied, “It's a cool opportunity but I really wish they would've played the whole song and not just the first verse and chorus. It really gave it a one sided representation of the song and of myself as an artist and the intentions behind the track. My original intentions were to simply address some of the issues of me being compared with him and to share what God has done in my life. It was definitely not a diss song and was not to make a name for myself.”

When asked about what he hopes the impact of the song will be he had this to say, “I hope that it's a good one! I just hope people really see what my real intention was behind it and not the wrong interpretations of it.”

I don't like rap, but this man's talented. Better than em? I'd say so.
