 Do you live in the DC area yet? I've always enjoyed history (right now, I'm reading The Politically Incorrect Guide to American History).

No, but I will be in the DC area next summer.... hopefully. Im working on a internship with the smithsonian for next summer. They have some amazing military arms that I would not be able to see anywhere else. :) -vitae

You should get America: The Book by Jon Stewart of the Daily Show.

 Got it for my little brother (Tfbandie) for Christmas. It's a little on the profane side (language-wise), but it's awesome.

I think Jon Stewart is crass, not comical.

I have a masters in history, my specialties are the the Hundred years war and Stalinist Russia with a good dose of Japanese history thrown in. If you want an excellent historical author who is unjaded by politicts and is not a terrible bore read anything by Robert Leckie. He is a rareity nowdays a strait shooter and is refreshing compared to people like James W. Loewen who function as a modern day agitprop.
