I haven't worn earing much for a while. Now when I where them, one of my ears needs to be alcoholed. Why might it not be reacting well? is there anything else I can do?

Wear real gold ones. Earrings made of metal make me react, too. Gold usually doesn't though.... unless the thingie that goes through my ear is really fat or wide- in that case, it takes a few days for my ear holes to get used to them.

If you go to any place that pierces ears, they can give you a special ointment to apply on the shaft of the earring. The ointment is said to ward off infection, and is what they give you when you first get pierced.

If you are reacting to the earrings, you most likely have a "nickel" allergy. You can get very inexpensive Nickel-free earrings at places likes Claire's and Icing. Or, you can spend a lot and bust up for some really good ones. 10K gold usually has some nickel in it, so don't use less than 14 or 24K.

There are also little plastic sleeves that you can slide the earring into that will protect your ear. They should have them at any accessory store.

Would that cause an excresion of puss or something that would later be crusty around the earing holes?
