Just curious . . . I've seen pictures of monks with the top of their head shaved, and a ring of hair around their head just below it. Why did they do that? Was it just a fashion of the times, or was there a spiritual significance?
No disrespect to the monks or monastic history - just curious.

No disrespect to the monks or monastic history - just curious.Sometimes people just get tired of dealing with their hair, and want to get rid of it. Combing, styling, shampoo and conditioner, the routine can get dreary after a time.
1 Corinthians 11:14 Does not even nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a dishonor to him?
Monks in some Eastern religions shave their head as a symbol of renunciation of earthly things.
Monks in many Western traditions have shaved their heads as a symbol of humility and submission to God.
