Mine right now is this band called Virgin Black...they have kind of an operetic, gothic style with some metal parts. The lyrics are pretty deep usually, and very spiritual. Check 'em out if you're into that sort of style.

Some other favorites...

Paramaecium
Extol
Living Sacrifice

United Live (Hillsongs Australia)
The Paul Colman Trio.... I met Paul few years ago before anyone in america knew who he was (he's australian), one of the coolest people I know. Completely genuine.

I am not crazy about very many Christian bands. But I do like Chasing Furies.

I like gospel music (not the southern kind, either!). So, there really aren't many "bands', but a lot of singers and choirs. I like Dottie Peoples, I LOOOVE Fred Hammond and Radical For Christ, Joann Rosario, Hezekiah Walker and the LFT choir, Mary Mary, Shirley Caesar, and the list goes on and on......

I like the lighter rock stuff - Switchfoot, for example. And some of the older stuff - Jars of Clay, DC Talk, Steve Taylor, Stryper, Amy Grant and really old stuff - Keith Green, 2nd Chapter of Acts, and a few others. I also like Creed.

Yeah, I like the older Jars of Clay (before If I left The Zoo), the Older Third Day (before Time); I like Keith Green and a few songs by Plumb (like Drugstore Jesus). I am also a big fan of Newsboys. FIF is pretty cool too; Reese Roper is an amazing lyricist.

Zao
Norma Jean
Living Sacrifice
Extol
Pedro the Lion
Saviour Machien

Mostly Solid State Records bands as you can see. :teeth: That's the only "Christian" label that consistantly puts out good music.

Hey, I was merely showing the diversity of musical genres I listen to. I like all music, except secular rap where they only curse or talk vulgarly, and secular Death Metal.

My favorite Christian band, bar none (and I believe one of the most important Christian bands in existence) is... the Supertones.

They are skilled, versatile, and carry a powerful, hard-hitting message to the Body of Christ. Not only do they give us music that praises, prays and educates, but they aren't afraid to openly rebuke young Christians who are weak in their faith, who think wearing a WWJD bracelet is their way of "witnessing" or sharing the gospel, who spend spend hours a day on a Playstation but never pick up a Bible.

Songs like "Return of the Revolution" and "Grounded" and "Escape From Reason" could easily be unofficial theme songs of the GODISNOWHERE ministry here in Denver, of which I am blessed to be a part. Challenging people to their face with the truth.

A close second is ApologetiX. Sometimes easily dismissed as just "that Christian parody band," they are not only entertaining and hilarious but also wonderfully educational to listen to. Most Christians could learn a great deal from this band. They use more specific scriptural references than any 3 or 4 other Christian artists I'm aware of.

Not only that, but you know how easy it is for young people to learn their favorite songs by heart in a short amount of time. Just imagine a 12 year old who has learned a mere five ApologetiX songs... and who consequently can do the following at the drop of a hat:

* Name all twelve disciples of Jesus
* Name all the books of the Bible, in order
* List the entire geneology of Jesus
* Name all of the kings of Israel, in order
* Rattle off all of the significant, false missing links proffered by evolutionists.

If you saw a 12 year old do that, you'd probably faint. LOL But anyone here could do all that, just by learning 5 songs by ApologetiX. http://bysshe.homestead.com/files/Smiley_RightIdea.gif

But I have to agree with RightIdea that ApologetiX are great!!! I saw them live once and they were so fun.

hey Ignatius!

I'm so sorry I'm only responding to you now, somehow I wasn't subscribed automatically to this thread and completely forgot about it...

anyway, I love 'old' Sanctifica, Slechtvalk and Vaakevandring too! actually Antestor is also good :teeth:

about CM, no, I haven't heard their new album yet. it's impossible to buy one of their albums here in Brazil, so I'm gonna have to import it.

I'm gonna buy it here (http://www.blastbeats.com). you should visit this link, they have a preview to one of their songs, and it sounds extremely brutal, man! I love Pilgrim's growling! :teeth:

slechtvalk, pantokrator, vaakevandring, sanctifica. opeth, rhapsody, stratovarius Living Sacrifice

OK, it's official...I am TOTALLY old and out of touch

[ahem] my faves: in the harmless radio pop corner, Newsboys (great Aussie talent there people!) thanks to their catchy tunes and lyrical genius, e.g;

Justin is adjustin' to the odour from Vito's evergeen incence
but aromatherapy won't make him any younger than Oliver's all-liver supplement
his late mate Merily merrily said immortality can't be bought in a jar
this just in; Justin's had enough of cure-alls, gonna quiz the neighbour kid with the fish on his car

and in the soulful, folk-rock corner, the brilliant Jars of Clay.

BTW, Christian bands aren't the only Christian bands, if you know what I mean...Sixpence None The Richer have done some wonderful stuff, especially Babe in the Straw one of the most beautiful Christmas songs ever made, with Leigh Nash's cute, raspy (dare I say sexy?) vocals. They have even done a cover of Don't Dream It's Over by secular Oz band Crowded House (another bunch of geniuses). But I digress!!

Music is great, full stop.
