Phew tall order!
In a nutshell, to my own understanding, Kant reacted against Hume's extreme scepticism by re-affirming the existence of a metahphysical world [Kant was a 'Christian' philosopher], but he did so by moving all the difficult stuff into an untouchable realm, where it didn't interact with this world [noumena/phenomena]. We can guess it's there, but we can't access it. Therefore the appearances are saved, and Christian sensibilities are preserved in that God can still exist in his domain.
It's been a while since I read him though.
