Is prosperity one of your goals? If so, that is a good thing. Psalm 35:27 says that God takes pleasure in the prosperity of His servants. As a matter of fact, one of the great promises of the Bible is found in the first chapter of Psalms:
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in His law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper" (Psalm 1:1-3, emphasis mine).
1. Is prosperity the same as wealth? Why or why not.
2. Read Ecclesiastes 5:19. Does God want you go have financial wealth? Explain.
3. What does Hosea 2:8-9 have to say about the wealth that God has given us and what our response should be?
4. From the passage in Psalm 1 above, how is a righteous man "like a tree planted by the rivers of water?"
Why does this bring forth fruit or prosperity?
5. Read Proverbs 28:13 and answer the following questions.
What do you think sin has to do with prosperity?
When have you "covered" a sin?
What was the result?
What does it mean to "forsake" your sin?
6. Psalm 51:12-15 and answer the following questions.
What is one way we can know we are truly Christians, in the aftermath of sin?
How would you define joy? How is it different than happiness?
7. God honors our confession of sin with His forgiveness. And there are three aspects of every true confession of sin - it is exposed, expressed, and expelled. Think about a sin you have committed. Write out the progression of that sin below using these aspects.
8. What does Jeremiah 17:9-10 and Psalm 139:23-24. What do these verses tell you about exposing your sin? Can you do it yourself? Explain.
9. Read Psalm 32:5 about expressing your sin. How specific do you think God wants you to be? Explain.
10. How does unconfessed sin affect your view of other people?
11. The Holy Spirit exposes our sin. The devil exploits it. What is the difference?
12. Read 1 Thessalonians 3:11-13. What are some blessings in this verse that you can ask God for today?
