View Full Version : What Kind of Christian Are You?

Someone in Politics (Champagne?) suggested that we make it known what sort of Christian we are. I think this would be useful, since a lot of people aren't aware that there is a lot of diversity in Christendom. Though maybe not on TheologyWeb. We shall see!

Interesting thread, I like it!
Are you affiliated with a Specific Church?
Yes, I am very involved in Crossroads Baptist Church, we are a southern baptist congregation.
Name Three Famous Christians who have Influenced You
Wow, there are really so many to narrow it down to just a few. How about, Hudson Taylor, C.S. Lewis, Josh MacDowell, James MacDonald, C.H. Spurgeon ... ok, so that's more than three - hey, you're lucky I could narrow it down that far!
What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless?
Christ is the only way to heaven. I would not say though that all others are "evil" in the demonic sense of the word. Judaism, for instance, worships the true God, but in the wrong way. Also, the history of missions has confirmed what God says in His word - He has not left Himself without witness among the lost, and that is not confined to purely natural revelation. For an interesting book I would suggest "Eternity in their Hearts" by Don Richardson (I believe that's the author, I may have the author wrong though).
What do you think about Evolution?
B.S.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
I think either old earth or young earth are possible, however I personally believe in a young earth created aged.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
He is my savior. My Lord. The Son of God, God in the flesh, the eternally existant second person of the trinity, born of the virgin, cloaked forevermore in human flesh, fully man and fully God, bore the sins of the elect upon the cross where He died, was then buried, and rose bodily on the third day.
What do you think about the Trinity?
It is THE truth of God, as revealed in Scripture.
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
Absolutely affirm it. A concise statement of my belief about the Bible would be: "All Scripture is God’s breathed-out revelation of truth, by the Holy Spirit, and through unique human agency; it is wholly inerrant and infallible in its original manuscripts, and sufficient to provide man with all that is necessary for life and Godliness."
What is the nature of the Resurrection?
Bodily, literal on the third day.
What do you think about Homosexuality?
A sinful lifestyle, but so are many others. Homosexuals should be welcomed to attend our churches, for we can't expect lost people to act like saved, but should not be allowed to join while living in sin, and any member of a church caught in that lifestyle should be subject to church discipline as laid out in Gal 6 and Matt 18. I'm torn on the subject of our government ok'ing gay marriage.
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage?
I'm torn. I don't think we can or should legislate morality, but I am worried about: A. Will pastors have the right to refuse to marry them or eventually will that be considered discrimination? B. The repurcusions in terms of adoption - I do not believe that they should be allowed to adopt.
Where are you politically?
Myself.
What do you think about the War in Iraq?
Supported it going in, unsure now, has definately been mishandled.
What do you think about Abortion?
Absolute murder.
What do you think about Sex before marriage?
Always wrong and sinful.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
As an opposing and valid view to evolution, yes.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
I do believe in the submission of the wife, it is clear in Scripture, but that doesn't mean "get in there and cook my food woman." There is mutual submission in marriage but the headship belongs to and is given to the man and the man only. I also believe that about the church, i.e. no female pastors.
What do you think about Hell?
Literal place, you sure don't want to go there.

Are you affiliated with a Specific Church?I was batised an anglican but currently attend an independant church. I don't consider myself attached to any particular denomination (assuming this is what you mean).Name Three Famous Christians who have Influenced YouC.S. Lewis, John Stott and Max Lucado (is he famous enough?), assuming biblical authors don't count. What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless? The religions themselves are opposed to God and hence evil. The people in them are generally simply wrong (technically I could call them evil as they are currently dead in their sin, but I don't want to be missunderstood - they are no more evil than anyone else who has not been spiritually regenerated). What do you think about Evolution?I have no theological problem with it, I disagree with it as a scientific theory but am open to having my mind changed here. What do you think about the Age of the Earth?Don't know, don't care. What do you believe about Jesus Christ?Jesus Christ is the only Son of the Father, fully God and fully human, the second member of the trinity and "the first born from among the dead" (to quote Paul, just 'cause he's cool). What do you think about the Trinity? It's true...What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible? The bible is the inerrent word of God in the autographs (i.e. the original manuscripts), there may be copyist errors etc. in the manuscripts we have. What is the nature of the Resurrection?Physical. What do you think about Homosexuality? It is not wrong to "be" gay (that is, be attracted to members of the opposite sex), but it is wrong to act on those attractions. I believe that Christian homosexuals should "[make] themselves eunuchs for the sake of the kingdom of heaven" (matt 19:12b NRSV) and dedicate themselves to the services of God (see also Pauls comments on the advantages of not being married in 1 Cor 7).What do you think about Homosexual Marriage? It can never be real marriage since it is not of God. Actually, I couldn't care less if the government makes this legal so long as they don't force the church to accept it (i.e. make it illegal to refuse to marry two gays).Where are you politically?Apathetic. What do you think about the War in Iraq?Undecided, will wait to see the results once its ended. What do you think about Abortion?Utterly opposed, see it as disrespectful to women (ask if you want me to explain, it would require a fair amount of space). What is your opinion on the age of the Earth?See same questian above! What do you think about Sex before marriage? It's wrong. What do you think about Sex Education?Depends what it involves and who it is to. Information on contraceptives etc. is important.Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools? No, but objections to evolution should be.What is the role of sex?Expression of love and commitedment between a married couple and making babies. What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"The church should try to influence the direction of the state (and so be salt at a national level). What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?Outside of marriage? No distinct roles. In marriage? The man is the head of the family and (should be) its main protector and provider as well as the leader in religious matters (basicly taking the lead in teaching the kids about God!) and the woman should be in submission to him. What do you think about Hell? It's real, it's where those in rebellion to God will spend eternity. Don't know much else about it and don't want to (it's not a very plesant place by all accounts). What are your eschatological views?Undecided. What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.)I tend towards Calvinism, but basically accept that God is completely sovereign and has full knowledge of all time, and that man has freedom in his actions so is held responcable for them (note, I intentionally did not use the term free will).Do you have anything you would like to mention which defines your identity as a Christian? Any belief(s) of yours which might not be common, or deserves mentioning? No.
(Did I get it right?)

Are you affiliated with a Specific Church?
Copperfield Bible Church in Houston, Texas
Name Three Famous Christians who have Influenced You
H.A. Ironside, Charles Spurgeon, David Brainerd, George Mueller, Andrew Murray, The Apostle Paul and C.S. Lewis.
Three just wasn't enough. Sorry. :uneasy:
What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless?
Having a different religion is not ultimately harmless. Not everyone can be right. There is only One Truth, not many smaller, complimentary truths ("Your truth, my truth..."). It's just not possible. Many of the other religions of the world contradict the teachings of Christianity and therefore are ultimately untrue. I do not think they are all evil per se; in that they do not seek to maliciously mislead and decieve their adherents.
What do you think about Evolution?
Simply one scientific theory, not a proven irrefutable fact.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
Could go either way...I'm not sure how the earth being young or old is all that important. Of course, I am nowhere near an expert.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
He is the Son of God, hung on the cross of Calvary as the ultimate propitiation for our sins. My Master and Teacher. God made manifest in the flesh born of the Virgin Mary.
What do you think about the Trinity?
The Father, Son and Holy Spirit...eternally co-existant as taught in the Scripture.
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
I believe the Scriptures to be the inerrant Word of God communicated through men of his choosing, not via some sort of 'automatic writing' mind you but rather through revelation to the individuals themselves thus showing variations in writing styles. It is sufficient for guidance in all things. As Jaltus and others like to say, "Read the Bible literarily not literally."
What is the nature of the Resurrection?
A literal resurrection, not symbolic. Christ's victory over death and the grave.
What do you think about Homosexuality?
A perversion of God's original plan, just as is any sinful lifestyle.
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage?
I don't have a problem with individuals wanting to be "together" and in a union of their own choosing but a state sanctioned and recognized union is out of the question.
Where are you politically?
Libertarian.
What do you think about the War in Iraq?
A mistake...not well planned, poorly executed. We need to leave the area to the Iraqi soldiers and police forces we have trained. I have a real problem with how the US (and the UN, as well) decides where to get involved militarily and financially.
What do you think about Abortion?
It is homicide of the most innocent of God's creation.
What is your opinion on the age of the Earth?
It could go either way...old or young. The jury is still out on this one for me.
What do you think about Sex before marriage?
A perversion of God's original plan.
What do you think about Sex Education?
I should be the one to teach my children about this subject. Not a state funded educational system.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
Definitely. I think it can be taught successfully from a purely scientific viewpoint.
What is the role of sex?
Procreation, a gift to be shared between a husband and wife, strengthening and
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
I believe it has been grossly misunderstood to the point of a sort of 'religious-phobia'. There should be no 'state sanctioned/mandated' religion and the state should not prohibit the free practice thereof.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
Gender is as simple as looking 'down'. I don't get the gender dysphoria (?) thing. Husband and wife are complimentary roles of God's plan for marriage.
What do you think about Hell?
It is an actual place set aside for the devil and his angels, but since the Fall, those who refuse Christ, disobey God's order, find themselves there as well.
What are your eschatological views?
Amillenialist; teetering towards partial preterist.
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.)
I am a waffling Open Theist...reading alot of Reformed eschatology which has caused a bit of conflict.
Do you have anything you would like to mention which defines your identity as a Christian? Any belief(s) of yours which might not be common, or deserves mentioning?
House-Church proponent. Firm believer in, 'God judging the heart rather than the ritual' of individual Christians.

Name Three Famous Christians who have Influenced You
C.S. Lewis, J.P. Holding, and Jack Chick (not in the way you'd think   ).
What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless?
I believe that 4 is the answer to "2+2=?", but some numbers are closer than others. The only truly evil religion is UNITARIANISM!!!:jason:
What do you think about Evolution?
Wasn't that good a movie, a simple rehashing of the Ghostbusters plot with different characters and different monsters.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
It's old.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
Incarnation of Wisdom of God. Perfect life, death and rez atones for us. Mediator between God and Man. Son of God ect.
What do you think about the Trinity?
Has to do with Hypostasis (http://www.tektonics.org/jesusclaims/trinitydefense.html).
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
I agree with the Chicago innerrancy statement.
What is the nature of the Resurrection?
Body like that of Christ.
What do you think about Homosexuality?
Homosexual acts are sin, temptation is temptation.
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage?
I have no objection to a Homosexual man marrying a Homosexual woman.
Where are you politically?
Conservative Canadian (yes, we exist)
What do you think about the War in Iraq?
It's good they got rid of Saddam.
What do you think about Abortion?
I am against it, considering as I and most of my friends were fetuses once ourselves.
What is your opinion on the age of the Earth?
Old.
What do you think about Sex before marriage?
Tempting, although painfully un-pragmatic in the long run. Oh, and it's immoral too.
What do you think about Sex Education?
Should be taught better (i.e: more emphasis on the "STD's, their symptoms and how they are transferred" as opposed to "what color of glow-in-the-dark condom is right for you".
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
Doesn't really bother me if it is or isn't.
What is the role of sex?
Intimacy, Fun, & Bebbies in marriage.
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
Jokes on them suckers, we still get to vote.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
To complex to explain here, but I believe that there a fundamental differences between the natures of man and woman
What do you think about Hell?
Enternal state of Shame before God.
What are your eschatological views?
Undecided, but leaning towards Orthodox Preterism.
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.)
I don't believe that there is any point to discussing such things, or holding to a specific view point in the long run, but I occasionally lean towards synergism.
Do you have anything you would like to mention which defines your identity as a Christian? Any belief(s) of yours which might not be common, or deserves mentioning?
I've been reading Rick Warren books an I believe that God's purpose for my life is to annoy DivineOB and CuMhorrigan (there was also Steamer, until he left). :hehe:

Yes

Stanley Hauerwas (Famous)
Lesslie Newbigin (Pretty famous)
John Howard Yoder (Not that famous)
What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless?
Christ alone is Lord and his claims call into question all religions (including Christianity). Generally, I think that the other world religions and spiritualities misunderstand the centrality of Christ, the nature of God, the world and human relationships. However I do not think they are all merely evil or that they do not contain some elements of truth that Christians can learn from. Mutually respectful dialog is essential, but Christians must also not give up a missional relationship to adherents of other religions.
What do you think about Evolution?
I'm highly skeptical of the modernist empistemological and theological presuppositions of evolution and I give it little or no credence.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
I have no real opinion. Frankly I don't think it matters much at all.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
That he is God-become-human, that his life, death and resurrection are the center of history, that he is the ultimate source of all meaning and truth and that he is the one Lord to whom I give allegiance.
What do you think about the Trinity?
That it is perhaps the most important of Christian doctrines. The doctrine of the Trinity is the most radical doctrine of God imaginable, for it sees relationality, self-giving, love and communion at the center of his being.
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
That the terms of the debate are confused to the point of being unhelpful. However, I do believe that the Bible is true in all the ways that it seeks to present truth.
What is the nature of the Resurrection?
It is the most important event in history, it did in fact occur in time and space and it is our ultimate hope and the soure of our new life.
What do you think about Homosexuality?
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage?
I see no basis for removing homosexual behaviour from the vice lists in Scripture or for the church supporting homosexual marriage. However I do not believe that homosexual sins are qualitively different or serious than any of the other sins with which we all struggle. The church has much repentance and work to do in regard to how it has failed to show the love of Christ to homosexuals.
Where are you politically?
I eschew political parties and even the democratic process in America as a whole. But my beliefs about Christ's call to peacemaking, serving the poor and the love of enemies generally puts me more toward the 'left'.
What do you think about the War in Iraq?
It is a horrible situation created by American imperialism and western economic interests that should sadden all Christians. The willingness of Christians in America to enter a war which unavoidably entailed the killing of their fellow Christians in Iraq isa travesty on the body of Christ and a sign of the American church's idolatry. The ultimate vocation of Christians in this situation is to contribute to the task of peace in Iraq in whatever means they can. I think that Christian Peacemaker Teams have been particularly faithful about that.
What do you think about Abortion?
It is a terrible reality that should sadden all Christians. Christians should also be working constantly to develop alternative to abortion and making intentional efforts toward hospitality to unwed mothers.
What do you think about Sex before marriage?
That it is sinful and pretty unwise.
What do you think about Sex Education?
That it would be a good idea.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
No.
What is the role of sex?
Far too general of a question. Generally I think it's role is to express and develop intimacy between married persons. It is also designed to produce children, though it has an inherent good without being procreative.
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
That it is a bad term. But, I do think that the church can never capitulate to the designs of the nation state which are almost universally at odds with the call of Christ. This is particularly crucial for the church in America which mistakenly thinks that Christianity and the American project are compatible.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
I'm not sure what's really being asked here. Gender differentiation reflects God's desire for his creation to be something charaterized by unity in diversity. I do not believe that there should be any subordination of women to men or vice versa.
What do you think about Hell?
That it is a real prospect for those who reject God. I also believe that the descriptions of hell in the Bible are metaphorical and that the nature of hell is a place of isolation and separation from God.
What are your eschatological views?
Generally premillennial, but not dispensational. Anymore I see eschatology as being much more concerned with the inbreaking of the kingdom of God as a transforming force in the present.
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.)
I lean towards Open Theism because of my commitment to a radical trinitarianism. But I would not put myself squarely in that camp.
Do you have anything you would like to mention which defines your identity as a Christian? Any belief(s) of yours which might not be common, or deserves mentioning?
I have a very strong belief in the centrality of the church in the Christian life and view discipleship as an extreme and intentional commitment involving all aspects of life. I also live in community with other members of my church and think this is a vital way of living that can help the church to be more truly itself.

Name Three Famous Christians who have Influenced You Max Lucado, Cindy Jacobs, C.Peter Wagner.
What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless?
they are wrong, most have partial truths in them which in some ways make them evil because people get sucked in by them, they are Satans way of getting people away from the truth basiclly. Unfortuneately people are involved and while a person may be wrong about what religion they follow they are human and they have feelings etc and should be treated as such.
What do you think about Evolution?
I think that God created everything originally but somethings have changed(evolved) over the years.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
I don't know how old it is and it doesn't matter really.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
I believe he is God in the flesh, that he came to earth through a virgin birth died around 33 on a cross and 3 days later rose again. He is saviour.
What do you think about the Trinity?
I think God is so much bigger than any of us can imagine and whilst I believe that Jesus and the Holy Spirit are God, there is no analogies etc that can explain it and I don't think that God is going to judge us if we get it wrong
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible? I believe it's what God wanted us to know, but it was written by humans and may contain things that we see as errors today even though at the time they were explaining in the best way they could.
What is the nature of the Resurrection? I am assuming you mean what was the reserection about
it happened so that we could be forgiven by God and come to him without having to go through third parties.
What do you think about Homosexuality? God hates all sin not just homosexuality. I think if someone is practicing homosexualuality they are not listening to God (if they are Christians). If they are non Christian to me they are like anyone else in that they are all sinning in one way or another and they all need a saviour.
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage? I think it is wrongand against what God wants.
Where are you politically? I have no idea
What do you think about the War in Iraq? I think that america should have stopped suddam hussein long ago instead they were basiclly in bed with him until all the terrorism stuff. However he needed to be kicked out better late than never I guess but unfortuneately people are having to die now because of the little romp long ago. it kinda reminds me of adultry if you don't get into it to start with then your not going to have the mess at the end  ( this is from my limited understanding on the war)
What do you think about Abortion? It should not happen, it's killing what God created. Whilst I could understand a rape victim wanting to get rid of a baby if it occurred, and can understand that young girls don't want to be mums there are people who would adopt these babies. We need to be concentrating on stopping the pregnancies in the first place not waiting till the girls are at a clinics.
What is your opinion on the age of the Earth? It's older than me and younger than God :teeth:
What do you think about Sex before marriage? I think it's wrong and it causes problems later on. people should think of it as a gift for their future husband/wife.
What do you think about Sex Education? I think they are getting to graphic too early kids over here start in yr 5, in yr 6 they are having to watch graphic cartoons. I think they should be focusing more on the emotional stress etc of it instead of how it's done.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools? yes since they teach everything else
What is the role of sex? for pleasure between married man and women and to reproduce.
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
I havnt thought about it much, but I think thatthe church should be involved in leadership things.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
to compliment each other, men think, react etc diffrently to women.
What do you think about Hell?people who do not accept Christ as their saviour (if they have heard of him) or follow the rules of their country(if they have not) will be sent there to be tortured by eternal fire
What are your eschatological views?
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.) umm I don't have time right now to say but as far as I know I am arminian/molinist
Do you have anything you would like to mention which defines your identity as a Christian? Any belief(s) of yours which might not be common, or deserves mentioning? don't have time right now to think about if I see anything diffrently

My job not school's job.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
I think they would manage to mess it up, but they should give it equal time. My daughters were taught some crazy latino voodoo crap in their English class. Why not Bible stuff. Science sure doesn't hold itself to much of a standard for consistency. Check the ages of the Grand Canyon- how many times the signs have been changed.

Well, all religions are the result of our very human search for God. Some are closer to truth than others, as a comparison to mathematics would suggest - but I believe that we are ultimately judged by wheather we love God or not, rather than any cultural heritage.
What do you think about Evolution?
It's a scientific theory that doesn't necessarily conflict with the Bible.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
Not sure.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
God in the flesh. Sacrificing Himself to atone for mankinds sins; to reestablish the severed relationship to Him.
What do you think about the Trinity?
It's a way for us to understand the nature of God, revealed by the Bible.
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
As there are many kinds of errancy/inerrancy, this is a rather vague question. I've come to believe that the Bible is historically correct, but as there are a legion of translations into many languages, errors that doesn't effect the core message will most likely have occurred.
What is the nature of the Resurrection? Tough question. It is the one event of mankinds ultimate salvation, it is appearently the center of history from our point of view (as empirically, for that matter; belief in the resurrection literaly reformed all of human society) It is through the resurrection reality could be understood as nothing but the word of God, and we could begin to deconstruct our fallable societies.
What do you think about Homosexuality?
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage? Not sure. Same sex, lifelong relationships might be valid. Anyhow, I try to not judge - I rather encourage people to love God and one another with a clear consciense, than repulse them from christianity by telling them how sinful and evil they are.
Where are you politically? Well, representation is very, very flawed. :)
What do you think about the War in Iraq? Imperialism, colonialism.
What do you think about Abortion? Always bad. Perhaps the lesser evil in rare occasions.
What is your opinion on the age of the Earth? I don't really think it matters.
What do you think about Sex before marriage? Depends on how "marriage" is understood. Sex is appearently meant exclusively for two individuals, in a long term relationship. Prefereably lifelong, exclusions from this simply damage people. Really.
What do you think about Sex Education? I suppose people are crafty enough to find out by themselves the exact details of an intercourse, when time comes. ;) Also, this society as a whole, with this aggressive commercialisation of human sexuality, is pushing young people to have sex when we are not ready neither emotionally, nor perhaps in the individual relationship. Sex is nowadays considered as more of a casual, social interaction, which of course calls for an informed education on the subject.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools? It doesn't work well with regards to the holy doctrine of science, I'm afraid. Of course it should be considered an equally valid worldview, if nothing else at least philosophically. Over here, it's actually (sometimes) ridiculed by teachers.
What is the role of sex? Companionship, recreation and reproduction?
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
Many volumes have been written on the subject. I'm really with Paul Feyerabend on this issue; religion, as well as science should be excluded from the democratic state.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
Fluent.
What do you think about Hell?Eternal life without God.
What are your eschatological views? Not sure. Classic christianity? ;)
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.) Our will is absolutely free - which does not mean that God is ignorant of the future, simply because there is no fixed and written future, we are constantly creating it.
Do you have anything you would like to mention which defines your identity as a Christian? Any belief(s) of yours which might not be common, or deserves mentioning? Nope. It's 04:14 am here. :)

What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless?
There is much in other religions that is correct and honest, but not in all, and certainly not to the exclusion of all else. I find myself admirous in particular of Islam, for reasons I can't really articulate. In any event, no, all religions are not equally valid, and the exercising thereof is not always ultimately harmless.
What do you think about Evolution?
It is very well-attested.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
I don't think about the age of the earth.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
He is:
- The one true Son of God
- The Messiah, at that
- A supremely sensible man
What do you think about the Trinity?
Too weird not to be true.
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
I concur with the Chicago Statement.
What is the nature of the Resurrection?
Full.
What do you think about Homosexuality?

I vigorously oppose it.
What do you think about Sex Education?
Unnecessary.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
No. I do think it should be discussed, however.
What is the role of sex?
- Sanctify the marriage bed
- Reproduction
- Fulfillment of God's will
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
It's bollocks.

What do you think about Hell?
Worth a visit, but wouldn't want to live there.
What are your eschatological views?
I give it about as much thought as I give to the age of the earth.
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.)
I do not believe much about this question that I could articulate. I feel that the existence of free will is manifestly obvious, but apart from that it is not something with which I concern myself.

I like this thread!
Are you affiliated with a Specific Church?
Not really. I used to be with the Southern Baptists, or maybe Evangelicals, not really sure. Now I go to that church, sometimes a Catholic church, and sometimes an Orthodox church.
Name Three Famous Christians who have Influenced You
The writer of The Way of A Pilgrim. Otherwise my influences have been small-time.
What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless?
They are a product of sin and deception. I'm not sure if religions are evil themselves, though. I'm leaning towards yes because they lead away from the truth. Having a different religion will likely prevent someone from being saved (there may be some exceptions, not sure).
What do you think about Evolution?
Although I have no trouble with those who believe it, I believe evolution is false and that the Genesis account is literal.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
I think the age of the earth is the same as the time between the first day and now. I'm not sure how long ago that is. I guess within 10,000 years.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
He finds His source in the Father, and is born from the Father eternally. Which means beyond time. I don't really fully understand this but find it awesome nonetheless. He came to earth to save the world from its fallen nature and the "reap what you sow" consequences of it. Through baptism and chrismation into the Church one is restored to their true human nature. I believe all that is said about Him in the ancient creeds of the Church from the first seven Ecumenical Councils.
What do you think about the Trinity?
I think the Trinity is real. The Son and Holy Spirit find Their source in the Father. The Son is eternally born from the Father and the Holy Spirit is eternally proceeding from the Father. I believe all of Them are equally God, have the same will and all participate together in Their works. The Son and the Holy Spirit also functionally submit to the Father, though each share the same nature. God is One and He is Three.
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
The Bible is inerrant, but I believe there are minor errors.
What is the nature of the Resurrection?
The Resurrection is bodily. Everyone will be resurrected with new, glorified bodies at the Judgment.
What do you think about Homosexuality?
Homosexuality is sin when practiced. This could be said, for the most part, about heterosexuality as well.
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage?
It is not a valid marriage by Christian standards. I'm not really sure that it makes sense to be against the political issue, however. These people are being married by the state, and the state has no power to make a sacramental marriage. Even heterosexual marriage done by just the state is not a sacramental marriage.
Where are you politically?
I'm not sure.
What do you think about the War in Iraq?
I'm not sure about this, either.
What do you think about Abortion?
Abortion is murder. However if the mother's life is at risk but the baby will survive, I'm not sure. If both lives will be at risk if the baby is born it is better to kill one life than two.
What is your opinion on the age of the Earth?
This seems like the same question as before!
What do you think about Sex before marriage?
It is harmful and unnatural, therefore sin. Sex is meant for the sacrament of marriage.
What do you think about Sex Education?
I'm not sure. As long as it isn't encouraging anything but abstinence it seems fine to me.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
No, because school is not a place for debate. But evolution should not be taught either, because it seems to be a religious belief.
What is the role of sex?
I'm not really sure beyond reproduction.
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
To not have Church and state separated makes sense for a Christian society. It has its ups and downs, though.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
I don't think man and woman have different roles outside of marriage. I guess in olden times one cooked, cleaned, and made clothes while the other went out and worked for pay. Husbands are the head of their houses, and wives... well, are under them. The husband is to the wife as Christ is to the Church, and the other way around too.
What do you think about Hell?
Hell is some sort of torment for a soul that didn't love God. Christians can go there, too. Not really sure what causes the torment and whatnot, though. And you can pray for the souls in Hell and help relieve their pain, whether it is self-induced or not.
What are your eschatological views?
I'm some sort of preterist.
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.)
I'm not sure about the word for it. Synergism? I saw the definition of that on TWeb is that God and man work together. That is what I believe. God gives us "talents", like in the Gospel parable, and we do something with them. Salvation requires our obedience and God's grace.
Do you have anything you would like to mention which defines your identity as a Christian? Any belief(s) of yours which might not be common, or deserves mentioning?
I am an Orthodox-leaning Christian.

What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless?
All except Judaism are wrong, and only evil by keeping others away from Christ. Judaism is under the old covenant and still applicable, just a lot harder.
What do you think about Evolution?
I have no issue with the adaptation of species, it is repeatable in experimental situations. I think too much is attached to the theory that is not actually there. For example Abiogensis is a bunch of hooey and is not really part of the ToE, but assumed.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
While I wholly believe God could have made the earth in 7 literal days it certainly doesn't look 6000 years old.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
He's what it is all about.
What do you think about the Trinity?
She was cute, but Neo could have done better. Oh wait, you mean Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. All for it.
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
The Bible communicates exactly what it is meant to.
What is the nature of the Resurrection?
Physical and Literal.
What do you think about Homosexuality?
Its a sin.
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage?
Can never be church sanctioned. Secularly I believe civil unions would be best.
Where are you politically?
Independant with libertarian leanings.
What do you think about the War in Iraq?
Faulty intelligence led to bad decisions, but hindsight is 20/20.
What do you think about Abortion?
Once the baby can exist on their own outside the womb (29ish weeks) it is definitely murder. Earlier I can't decide.
What do you think about Sex before marriage?
Sin.
What do you think about Sex Education?
Has its place, abstinance should always be strongly encouraged.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
If they teach Abiogenesis, then most certainly.
What is the role of sex?
:ahem:
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
Has its purposes as long as it is not applied too zealously.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
Two become one.

In history, or in present day? Present day probably, there are several authors. I guess I'd have to say C.S. Lewis, Jurgen Moltmann and N.T. Wright
What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless?
They are just incorrect for the most part. I don't think someone who mediatates is worshiping satan if that's what you're asking.
What do you think about Evolution?
I think that Evolution rests largely on a priori metaphysical assumptions about the world. Since I'm not a philosophical naturalist, I have no problem not believing in things like abiogenesis and such, although I have no problem believing that life forms can change over time. But the "goo-to-you" I think you have to be non-theist to accept.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
It is probably very old. I am not a YEC either.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
See the Creeds then add his specific teachings about the Kingdom of Heaven found in the Gospels.
What do you think about the Trinity?
See the Creeds.
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
If saying that "oh, well Genesis 1 must be allegory" is just some new theory (ad hoc) to sustain inerreancy in responce to science, than I'm not for inerrancy. If there is a legitimate, purely exegetical reason to belive that Genesis is allergory, poetry, whatever, than I'm still for inerrancy. I lean towards the latter.
What is the nature of the Resurrection?
Physical.
What do you think about Homosexuality?
I think its cleary condemned in scripture, but I don't know if that means we have to keep Gays from being married. I'm not on the falwell band-wagon.
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage?
See above.
Where are you politically?
Center and towards authority according to the politcal compass.
What do you think about the War in Iraq?
My reasons for no longer supporting it have little to do with my faith.
What do you think about Abortion?
Wrong.
What do you think about Sex before marriage?
Wrong.
What do you think about Sex Education?
Those who say that it can be seperated from morality are full of it. THose who think that abstinence violates Church and State are also full of it.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
I think that kids should be taught the philosophical issues that go into and come out of science. I don't know if Creationism is a greatest idea.
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
I think the state should not interfere with the Church by establishing a state religion or infringing on the practices of churches.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
:nc:
What do you think about Hell?
Its where God sends people who want nothing to do with him.
What are your eschatological views?
Whatever :ddw: says ins't heresy.
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.)
I lean strongly towards Open Theism right now, but am still undecided until I examine some refutation of OVT.
Do you have anything you would like to mention which defines your identity as a Christian? Any belief(s) of yours which might not be common, or deserves mentioning?
I don't believe that Sola Scriptura is possible. I'm not sure if its desirable, becuase it seems that we ask questions that scripture wouldn't be able to answer by virtue of things like cultural context.

Anything that is does not have God/Jesus as its source is not from God. Does God promote the worship of any other God but Himself?
What do you think about Evolution?
My thoughts about it are evolving. I'm no scientist, but I find it hard to accept that the world is old. Neither do I think its 6000 years old.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
umm.. see above.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
Jesus Christ is the Lamb of God who takes away the Sin of the world. Have mercy on us.
What do you think about the Trinity?
Its cool, and kind trinitarian? What do you mean... what do I think about it?
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
I believe the Bible was inspired by God, and I dont believe God makes mistakes.

I agree with it. Hussein needed to be deported. USA has made some mistakes along the way, but now they need to finish the job.

Bad.

Didnt we already have this question?
What do you think about Sex before marriage?
I didnt get any :/
But.. I dont think thats a bad thing.
What do you think about Sex Education?
We need more?
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
Yes. I also think evolution should. People can not make informed judgements about anything, unless they are liberally educated (that means educated on a wide variety of subjects, not politically liberal).
What is the role of sex?
Clarity.. what do you mean? Role in marriage? Generally? Biblically? What?
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
The bible teaches that the Church and state can not be separate as far as I am concerned. See Psalm 2.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
Gender? Well.. women cant be husbands, nor male, and men cant be wives or female. Could you be more specific?
What do you think about Hell?
There is no eternal literal physical or no physical torment.
What are your eschatological views?
Jesus is coming. When he does the wicked will be destroyed, creation returned to its true state and the faithful will live eternally here.
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.)
I'm a follower of Jesus.

What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless?
Non-Christian religions and cults are evil, in that they offer "another way" of salvation" other than Christ which is ultimately damning.
What do you think about Evolution?
I am a creationist.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
As Keith Green said, we don't really know.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
I'm with the Council of Nicea on the Deity of Christ.
What do you think about the Trinity?
I'm completely Trinitarian in the orthodox sense.
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
I believe Scripture to be inerrant in the original autographs.
What is the nature of the Resurrection?
Christ's resurrection was in the same physical body that came down from the cross.
What do you think about Homosexuality?
The practice of homosexuality is sinful. Homosexuals should not be persecuted or hated. They should be treated as any other committing a sin, and be witnessed to lovingly and gently.
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage?
There is no such thing as homosexual marriage - for the two cannot be one.
Where are you politically?
Republican - but Independent on some issues.
What do you think about the War in Iraq?
I was initially for it, but see some real problems at the present.
What do you think about Abortion?
Abortion is the taking of a human life in all cases.
What is your opinion on the age of the Earth?
Don't know.
What do you think about Sex before marriage?
The Bible calls it sin, I agree with Scripture.
What do you think about Sex Education?
I'm not opposed to biological details being studied, but morals and values education should come from Church and home.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
I believe Intelligent Design should be an option.
What is the role of sex?
Procreation and mutual joy.
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
This is not in the Constitution. Only the imposition of a State religion is prohibited by the Constitution.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
They must love each other and submit to one another. I don't hold with women having to wear dresses, and having their hair below their ear lobes. ...as do some hardshell Baptists.
What do you think about Hell?
What are your eschatological views?
Hell is eternal separation from God in outer darkness. I am a post-tribulationist.
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.)
Do you have anything you would like to mention which defines your identity as a Christian? Any belief(s) of yours which might not be common, or deserves mentioning?
I believe in the doctrines of Sovereign grace.

Are you affiliated with a Specific Church?
United Methodist.
Name Three Famous Christians who have Influenced You
Albert Schweitzer, Marcus Borg, Fred Phelps (negatively).
What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless?
I believe God is everywhere and influences everyone through something that could be loosely called Prevenient Grace. Thus, I see all religions as a response to this influence. I consider all religions, including Christianlty, to contain truth and falsehood, the proportions of which of course will vary from one religion to another.
What do you think about Evolution?
The Theory of Evolution is the best explanation science has so far come up with to explain the diversity of species on this planet. It is subject to change, as are all such theories. I don't consider the Bible to be a scientific textbook, so I see no conflict with Bible creation stories.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
See Evolution. I'll go with whatever the scientists currently think, with the same provisos.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
He lived around 0 - 33 CE. He preached the Kingdom of God. he healed many. He was put to death by the authorities of the time, mainly for his political views. He is alive today. Everything else I'm still thinking about.
What do you think about the Trinity?
Even the supposed "experts" can't come up with a coherent explanation, how should I do so?
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
As previously stated, the Bible is not a scientific textbook, nor a history text as we understand that today. I believe that the authors of the Bible were inspired by God, and what they wrote should therefore be respected. My definition of "inspired" is not clear, even to me.
What is the nature of the Resurrection?
Jesus' resurrection? I don't know. I believe it happened.
What do you think about Homosexuality?
I think it's something that some people have, like hair color. I don't think we can choose to be homo- or hetero- sexual. People can of course choose how, or even whether, to express their sexuality. I believe that homosexual actions can be sinful, but then so can just about anything.
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage?
I'd go with civil contracts for both homosexual and heterosexuals, and leave the rest to individual churches.
Where are you politically?
When I was living in England I considered myself to be somewhat conservative. Since living in the US, I realise I'm somewhat to the left of the Democrats! Views on individual matters may vary wildly though!
What do you think about the War in Iraq?
A mistake, but now we have to finish the job.
What do you think about Abortion?
A fetus one minute after conception can be aborted. A baby one minute before birth should not be. Somewhere in between there is a line to be drawn. Why don't we concentrate on contraception and education, so maybe one day it won't matter ... ?
What is your opinion on the age of the Earth?
See Evolution. I'll go with whatever the scientists currently think, with the same provisos.
What do you think about Sex before marriage?
Sex is a very powerful thing and should be handled with care.
What do you think about Sex Education?
I'm in favor of it. I would love to live in a society where this question carried as much emotional weight as "What do you think about Driver's Ed"?
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
Not in science classes. If proponents can develop it into a formal science, then yes. In Philosophy or some such, why not?
What is the role of sex?
Procreation, pair bonding, FUN!
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
I'm for it.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
Women and men (in general) are very different in many ways, and therefore tend to be fitted to different roles in some areas. Individuals of both genders can vary wildly from the norm, so no one should be forced into any particular role.
What do you think about Hell?
I believe a place of eternal punishment (particularly torture) is unworthy of a good God. Nevertheless, some place where people are unhappy (shamed or whatever) may exist, though it is more likely to be a side effect than a deliberate action. I incline to the Eastern Orthodox view, at least as I understand it.
What are your eschatological views?
I'm sure Christians will be arguing about this for many thousands of years to come.
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.)
I think it is ridiculous to draw such detailed conclusions from such limited data. I suspect God derives great amusement from all this debate.
Do you have anything you would like to mention which defines your identity as a Christian? Any belief(s) of yours which might not be common, or deserves mentioning?
This would take a separate post of some length! :teeth:

Regarding the reference to Borg in Alien's post, I disagree with much of what he says, but he's got some good intrepretation from what I could tell in a book I read last semester.

Are you affiliated with a Specific Church?
I attend an Anglican Church but I was raised Evangelical Missionary. I actually was raised on the mission field in Africa and thats pretty much its own "church" environment.
Name Three Famous Christians who have Influenced You
C. S. Lewis, Theodore Epp, Neil Anderson
What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless?
They are incorrect, but they are also used by the devil as powerful tools of deception. Beliefs that do not align with Scripture are not harmless.
What do you think about Evolution?
Usually I don't. But when I do...
I believe that the strength of Evolution was constructed socially rather than scientifically. If you disbelieve Evolution then you have to believe in something else, and most people just aren't willing to take that "risk".
Evolution is considered credible because it's being taught as fact rather than as an independent theory.
If people didn't have to have a "best theory" for everything, we wouldn't have these problems.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
It doesn't matter, really. I'd rather worry about how long it has left ;)
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
He is the Son of God. He provides the only way for anyone (anywhere, anytime) to be justified before God. This was made possible when he lived a perfect life, died for the sins of the world, and was resurrected after three days, having broken the power of sin and death in the process.
What do you think about the Trinity?
It's a mystery. If you try to understand the metapyhsical connectivity between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, you are setting yourself up for a big headache. All three are the same God. I think the chinese elephant proverb may well apply here.
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
GIven the range of manuscripts w/ variances, don't tell me that it's word perfect unless you can definitively prove to me which manuscript is the one true one. And, gIven that I read English translations of the Bible, I never expect to lay eyes on a word perfect document. But it never errs in what it says, and I trust the Holy Spirit to smooth out any rough edges for me.
What is the nature of the Resurrection?
A physical resurrection which fulfilled prophecy and showed Jesus to be the Son of God.
If you convince me it didn't physically happen, then I'll give up on Christianity.
What do you think about Homosexuality?
It's a serious form of sexual sin. When put in the context of a valid "lifestyle choice", I cringe. The Bible talks about two "lifestyle choices". One is living by the Spirit and the other is living in Sin.
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage?
It's a logical contradiction. Two people of the same sex can't be married in the eyes of God.
Where are you politically?
Somewhere left of center and right of Lenin. I think more people should get their politics from the first half of the book of Acts.
What do you think about the War in Iraq?
I think it's something Bush had set his sights on before he was even elected to office. After that it became a matter of selling it to the public. There are better ways to work towards world peace and security than starting a war.
What do you think about Abortion?
I'm glad I'm a man ;)
It's wrong. But I think that rather than spending my life just condemning it, I'd rather work at changing society so people don't feel that they have to abort.
What is your opinion on the age of the Earth?
My opinion is that it doesn't really matter because I've got stuff I have to do before bed tonight.
What do you think about Sex before marriage?
It's wrong and you shouldn't do it.
What do you think about Sex Education?
It's got to happen sometimes, but it should be the role of the Parents. Timing is up to them, unless they leave it far too late.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
Well, before I answer that, all the Creationists will have to get together and agree on a single Creationist theory that is the right one ;)
What is the role of sex?
Physical expression of a married couple's oneness and their God given love for one another. Also useful for producing offspring.
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
It doesn't exist for a Christian. For the individual Christian, there is only Church. The minute we try and set up a sphere in our lives or in the greater world that doesn't have anything to do with God is the day we deceive ourselves. God can be present in the State without crucifixes hanging in every courtroom.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
The Bible presents a model that works extremely well but is often misconstrued and is often rejected as "sexist". When it really has nothing to do with inequality.
But men and women are different! (Hey, it's news to some people!)
So why do we work so hard to destroy these natural differences (which are NOT inequalities)?
To those women who say they have problems with the idea that they have to submit, I'll tell them that I have sometimes have problems with the idea that I have to love, too.
What do you think about Hell?
It exists, it's not very pleasant, and it's necessary because God is loving *and just*.
What are your eschatological views?
Everyone who ever lived will be judged at a big final Judgement that everybody gets resurrected for. After that some people get to go home and some people go to hell.
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.)
If someone offers me a lifesaver when I'm drowning, I can choose to take it or not. That doesn't mean that I'm in control of my own life. I can send myself to Hell, but I can never send myself to Heaven.
I believe God never forces salvation upon anyone. But he sure can stack the deck ;)
Do you have anything you would like to mention which defines your identity as a Christian? Any belief(s) of yours which might not be common, or deserves mentioning?
Everything I've said before establishes some of my doctrinal stances. I'd just like to add that the primary thing I look for in any issue of theology is what the Bible says on the matter.

Are you affiliated with a Specific Church?
the Assembly of God and/or the Fellowship of Christian Assemblies
Name Three Famous Christians who have Influenced You
only three? :hrm: well, how about...William Lane Craig, Frank Peretti, and Rich Mullins.
What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless?
harmless? no way. if you hold your violin or bow the wrong way for most of your life, you'll find that you develop problems in your joints...arthritis...carpal tunnel...other things. same goes for religion. if you practice the wrong thing consistently, you are training yourself to do something that you were not created to do--and something that can have serious effects in the long-run. plus...i think jesus was pretty clear about that "i am the way" stuff. i think christians ought to be loving and tolerant, but firm and unswayed with non-christian religions.
What do you think about Evolution?
i think it's fascinating. wrong, but fascinating (i'm assuming the question refers to macro evolution [variation from one species to another] as opposed to micro evolution [variation within a species]).
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
i'm not sure it matters. i believe in a created earth, and i believe that a god who created adam and eve at an adult age could create an aged earth, also.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
allow me to quote:
I believe...in Jesus Christ his only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Ghost, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried; he descended into hell; the third day he rose again from the dead; he ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.
What do you think about the Trinity?
yes.
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
i'm not sure what the correct terminology is here. i think the scriptures as they originally were written were inerrant in content, though i don't think everything written in scripture was meant to be taken as literally true.
What is the nature of the Resurrection?
uhm? well, i absolutely believe in it.
What do you think about Homosexuality?
 yeah, it's unnatural. i don't buy the "some people are born that way" story. i think we're all inclined to different sinful actions. while i would absolutely label homosexuality as sinful, i don't think the church needs to worry as much about it as we have in the past.
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage?
politically? or morally?
Where are you politically?
i tend to appreciate more of the socio-economic ideas of the democrats, but i tend to appreciate the moral values of the republicans. my sister and her husband are marines, so i'm pretty patriotic. what does this have to do with my christianity?
What do you think about the War in Iraq?
:sigh: i think...i'm glad the decision wasn't mine. it would've been a hard one. i'm thankful that our president is resolved to complete what's been started (whether or not starting it was the right decision). and...i pray that god...deals justly with those who have had the decision to grant and forfeit the lives of men and women in iraq (whether iraqi or american). why didn't this question ask what i think of saddam?
What do you think about Abortion?
i find it tragic for everyone involved.
What is your opinion on the age of the Earth?
i hope i look that good when i'm her age. :ahem:
What do you think about Sex before marriage?
 i think we serve a gracious god.
What do you think about Sex Education?
hm. well. i don't know.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
absolutely. not as "truth," but as the scientifically legitimate alternative to the evolutionary view.
What is the role of sex?
hm. i think god intended for it to be a good thing...otherwise we wouldn't like it so much. but i'm pretty sure he intended it to be within the commitment of marriage.
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
i think...it...is misleading.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
hm. well. i don't know.
What do you think about Hell?
i lean toward the anihilation view. i think hell is a mistaken concept, but i'm not certain of that, and i don't like to debate it because i know i'm not certain of it.
What are your eschatological views?
my eschatological view? i should probably get one, eh? :hrm:
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.)
etc. :hehe: i most closely resemble what is commonly (and quite affectionately) referred to around here as a Molinist.
Do you have anything you would like to mention which defines your identity as a Christian? Any belief(s) of yours which might not be common, or deserves mentioning?
sure. i think it's worth mentioning...that "gentleness" was given its own branch of the [i]fruit of the spirit[i] tree. so whether we are confronting sin (in our own self or in another believer--or even in a non-believer), or correcting wrong teaching, or giving the shoes off our feet to someone who is barefooted, or emptying our wallet to fill the offering plate, or giving the finger to the jerk who just cut us off in traffic...we need to figure out how to implement this gentility thing.
that's all.
wow...what a neat game. :teeth:

Are you affiliated with a Specific Church?
I'm an Evangelical Protestant, which is odd, because I've been attending and participating in an Anglican Church, to which I consider myself affiliated.
Name Three Famous Christians who have Influenced You
Philip Yancey, C.S. Lewis, G. K. Chesterton. To list three at random from Chistians who have influenced me. The most important members of the list aren't famous at all.
What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless?
They are not all evil. They are wrong to varying degrees, and therefore cause various degrees of harm.
What do you think about Evolution?
I think if evolution ever happened, it must have been a miracle.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
I think it's old enough. I see no reason to disagree with whatever number scientists are currently endorsing, or the different number they will agree on tomorrow.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
(see Semmie's quote. Thank's semmie!) On a personal note, he's replaced Obi-wan as my only hope.
What do you think about the Trinity?
I think that it's a devine mystery which is absolutely true. It's also something I fail to understand.
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
The bible is inerrant. People are apt to interpret it in a wide variety of ways, some of which are wrong.
What is the nature of the Resurrection?
Bodily. Historical. And a good thing too.
What do you think about Homosexuality?
Homosexual acts are sinful. A temptation to homosexual acts is not sin.
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage?
If it's between homosexuals, it is not Marriage. As a social arrangement, it promotes and validates the practice of sin. Not such a good idea.
Where are you politically?
I am confused and lost, like a sheep who has a healthy distrust of all the so-called shepherds out there. When I have to choose, I normally vote for the Liberal party as the least of the evils.
What do you think about the War in Iraq?
I think that if America was truly interested in freedom, justice, democracy, and human rights they would have invaded Sudan instead.
What do you think about Abortion?
Abortion is infanticide.
What do you think about Sex before marriage?
It is sin.
What do you think about Sex Education?
I think that the Sex Education provided by my cultural surroundings has an immensly negative impact on my walk with God. I think the one joke class in school is not really important one way or the other, and should be supplemented by the parents' teaching.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
Only the theory.
What is the role of sex?
Pleasure, procreation. These I understand.
It creates a bond between man and wife, making them "one flesh." It is a living metaphor for Jesus and his Church. The scripture seems to be behind these, but I don't pretend to understand them.
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
I know that the church has been terrible in its misuse of political power. I know that the secular state has been terrible in its misuse of political power. I'm not sure what to think.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
I don't know. I'm thinking of becoming a celibate hermit in the Andes so I won't have think about this question.
What do you think about Hell?
I think it is very real, and a place of suffering for those who reject God.
What are your eschatological views?
Jesus is coming. He might come tomorrow. He might come after I'm dead.
Strange things are happening, and people are predicting the end of the world. This might be because the world is ending. This might be because the world has been ending for quite some time. But Jesus is coming. He might come tomorrow. He might come today.
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.)
I think that the whole debate on this topic stems from a human misunderstanding of Time and God. From what I've read, moderate Arminians and Calvinists say much the same thing from two different perspectives. From what I've read, extreme Arminians and Calvinists are wrong.
Do you have anything you would like to mention which defines your identity as a Christian? Any belief(s) of yours which might not be common, or deserves mentioning?
When I was in Highschool, select members of my class initiated each other into a unique branch of protestantism known as the Bunny Cult. There were three key precepts:
You must become an idiot. (The Rank of Tapeworm)
You must have joy at all times. (The Rank of Egg)
You must get back to work and graduate, you lazy slacker. (The Rank of Aardvark)
I consider the Bunny Cult to be an important part of my Christian identity.

Someone in Politics (Champagne?) suggested that we make it known what sort of Christian we are. I think this would be useful, since a lot of people aren't aware that there is a lot of diversity in Christendom. Though maybe not on TheologyWeb. We shall see!
Answer these questions, and any others you can think of. Please forgive me if some of these are phrased funny. Feel free to correct/alter the questions as you see fit:
Are you affiliated with a Specific Church?
1. non denominational
Name Three Famous Christians who have Influenced You
2. I will stick with Jesus as to who has influenced me the most.
What is your view regarding non-Christian religions?
3. I think they are from Satan to bring confusion and keep people away from the truth. I think they are evil and any religion that keeps you from Christ is not harmless...because your soul is at stake.
What do you think about Evolution?
4. I believe what the Bible says it was created in 6 days.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
5. I guess around 6000 or so.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
6. I believe He is the Son of God and He died for us and someday He is coming back for us.
What do you think about the Trinity?

What is the nature of the Resurrection?
9. The believers raised to everlasting life, the lost to judgement
What do you think about Homosexuality?
10. It is a sin...just as stealing is a sin.
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage?
11. There is no such thing as a homosexual marriage...marriage is between a man and woman as God ordained it.
Where are you politically?
12. I am for the side that stays closest to the Bible on issues...so 99% of the time I vote for Republican...but have voted for a democrat that was against abortion...while the republican was for it.
What do you think about the War in Iraq?
13. I am for it. I wish they would ignore all the "politically correct" people and just keep moving forward.
What do you think about Abortion?
14. It is murder...but God will forgive the women if they repent.
What is your opinion on the age of the Earth?
15. I think it is around 6000 years old.
What do you think about Sex before marriage?
16. I don't think you should have sex before marriage. You should keep yourself pure for your husband or wife. What a gift to give to them and yourself.
What do you think about Sex Education?
17. I think it should be limited...and no classes teaching children that is okay to be a homosexual.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
18. yes
What is the role of sex?
19. For our enjoyment and procreation.
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
20. It is not in the constitution....
What are the roles of Gender?
21. men to be spiritual leaders and protectors of the family...women...to take care of the husband, children and home.
What do you think about Hell?
22. I think it going to be one hot and busy place.
What are your eschatological views?
23. I think if you die without asking Jesus Christ to be the Lord and Savior of your life you will go to hell.
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.)
24. I believe God is sovereign and that He gives us freewill to walk with Him or not. If you do...then you have eternal life with Him...if you don't...you still have eternal life but it will be in the lake of fire.
Do you have anything you would like to mention which defines your identity as a Christian?
25. I love Jesus and try to live a life that is pleasing to Him...though I do fail at times...He is forgiving...if I repent.
Any belief(s) of yours which might not be common, or deserves mentioning?
26. no....

Are you affiliated with a Specific Church?
United Methodist
Name Three Famous Christians who have Influenced You
Joe Stole, Tony Evans, Larry Burkett (only three?)
What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless?
They aren't evil. They are misguided and incorrect. They are not harmless.
What do you think about Evolution?
Micro: No problem. Macro: Nonsense.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
I don't like either set of yardsticks. I lean toward young but I don't think either the Biblical documentary means of dating or the radiometric, et al, scientific means are particularly sound.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
He is the Living Son of God, the Second Person of the Trinity, my Savior.
What do you think about the Trinity?
It is sound doctrine.
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
The Bible is inerrant. Interpretation leaves something to be desired, however.
What is the nature of the Resurrection?
Bodily.
What do you think about Homosexuality?
Homosexual acts are unquestionably sin as defined in both the Old and New Testaments. 'Homosexuality' is a label of what I strongly suspect to be a disorder.
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage?
Should be banned as should civil unions. They are both stepping stones to increased adoptions/foster parenting neither of which has been shown to be healthy for the children involved.
Where are you politically?
Right leaning moderate. Identifying Democrat, probably needs to be reassessed.
What do you think about the War in Iraq?
Necessary and while certainly mistakes were made (which happens in any human endeavor) I don't think it has been grossly mismanaged nor deserves the negative protrayal in the press.
What do you think about Abortion?
Unconscionable. Murder. Possibly necessary in the extremely rare case of the endangerment of the mothers life - however, given the state of modern medicine, I am inclined to think that this is almost never an actual case of having to chose between mother and child.
What is your opinion on the age of the Earth?
It's five minutes older than the last time you asked! :teeth:
What do you think about Sex before marriage?
Sin and stupid.
What do you think about Sex Education?
I'm for sex education, but it needs serious revision. 'Abstinence Based' needs to be in fact abstinence promoting and supportive, which it isn't at present. 'Abstinence Only' depends on how it is done - silly ones like never discussing birth control or condoms at all need to be revised.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
Depends on exactly what you mean by it, but I think that the flaws in evolution theory should be taught and a respectful review of the desenting view done.
What is the role of sex?
In marriage, fun, procreation, intimacy. Outside marriage, a good way to mess up your life in a lot of different ways.
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
If you mean the Establishment clause as originally understood (not creating a national church/religion - not allowing governmental interference with religion and not being so danged paranoid about it) I fully support it. If you mean the current wave of religious paranoia based on the Jeffersonian comment, it's stupid.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
Telling the boys from the girls! :teeth:
They are complimentary with differing roles.
The man is the head of the house under Christ, but he is not an autocrat. The woman is called to submission, as is the man ('Christian submit one to another'), but that does not translate to 'doormat'. They are to be complimentary partners.
What do you think about Hell?
It's real. It may be the condition of seperation from God rather than a 'place' as we think of places.
What are your eschatological views?
Jesus is coming back - but only the Father knows when.
Pre-mill (mostly as a fall back position) - kinda evaluating that. Not a major concern for me (the being ready part is the major concern!)
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.)
I think our understanding of omniscience is necessarily limited and speculative. I don't think you can arrive at an authoritative concept of how these things work together. I hang my hat on Wesleyian tradition (Arminian?).
Do you have anything you would like to mention which defines your identity as a Christian? Any belief(s) of yours which might not be common, or deserves mentioning?
Not at this time. Needs some thought.

I promised I wouldn't get into any serious discussion while I'm sick right now, because I've been feeling so negative lately, but I'll go out on a limb and fill out this survey. I love surveys in general. LOL
Are you affiliated with a Specific Church?
My church is Grace Bible Fellowship, which is affiliated with the Colorado Network of Grace Churches, all of which are Mid-Acts Dispensational, extremely similar to the Berean churches around the country and the Berean Bible ministries that were begun by C.R. Stam. Unlike them, most of the churches in our church network also hold to the Partially Open View/Open Creationism.
Name Three Famous Christians who have Influenced You
Paul of Tarsus (the very first Christian)
Josh McDowell ("Evidence" was one of the things God used to bring me to Him)
Bob Enyart (strongly disagree on certain things, but agree on many more)
What is your view regarding non-Christian religions? Are they all evil? Are they just incorrect? Is having a different religion ultimately harmless?
The issue isn't about "religion." If you do not confess Jesus as Lord and believe He rose from the dead, you are not saved, and no amount of niceness or human philosophy or good works will avail you. There is no "good enough." Only perfection. And you can become identified with the perfection of Christ, or not. Hell is the greatest monument ever built to those who choose to not be with God.
What do you think about Evolution?
Fairy tales.
What do you think about the Age of the Earth?
It is explicity clear in the Bible that the age of humanity is no more than about 6,000 years. I believe the weight of all evidence, scriptural and non, altogether lean strongly toward a young creation, as well.
What do you believe about Jesus Christ?
God the Father sent God the Son to be incarnated on Earth as a man, Jesus Christ, as a sacrifice for the sins of the world, to conquer death and to defeat the enemy, free us from sin and reconcile us to the Father. The Father sacrificed this Son, and this was acomplished through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ. A man without sin, a forever-living example of perfect love ... and perfect hate. He is the king and messiah of Israel, and the savior of the world.
What do you think about the Trinity?
Three persons, three wills in unity, all three equally God, but not equal in relationality. The Son diminishes Himself to glorify the Father, and submits to the will of the Father, just as the Holy Spirit diminishes Himself to glorify the Son and the Father, and submits to the will of the Son and the Father.
What do you think about the errancy/inerrancy of the Bible?
God's word was divinely inspired (God-breathed) through human authors who added "flavor" to the text but no error. Scripture was created inerrant and infallible. The manuscript copies we have, some of which are from only a few years after the originals, don't all agree with each other and are demonstrably errant on a very minor level, in regards to minor "typos," none of which impact doctrine. Today, scripture (in the original language of manuscripts) is infallible but not perfectly inerrant. Translation into English is not divinely inspired, is not infallible, and discernment must be used in choosing between translations.
I see no proof that some divinely inspired book or other hasn't been lost over time. There might very well have been other divinely inspired books we no longer have. I don't believe the specific set of 66 books is wholly divinely inspired, in and of itself. The ones we have in canon are all divinely inspired, and they are more than enough for us. All of it is useful, but much of it is redundant and not absolutely necessary. Therefore, we could have also ended up with fewer than 66 books, and still been fine. I'm thankful for what we have, which again is more than enough for us.
What is the nature of the Resurrection?
His resurrection was bodily, and is the model of our bodily resurrection, indicating that our bodily resurrection will not be an awakening of body and soul but of body only. He appeared in a physical, glorified body, physically touched others and ate with them. He is still alive and will continue to exist bodily.
Sincere faith in the resurrection of Christ is necessary for salvation, today. If God became a man, died for our sins... and is still dead? Then we're screwed.
What do you think about Homosexuality?
An abomination to God. Unrepentant, it is just as lethal a sin as any other. Aside from God's law, it is unnatural, unhealthy and dangerous. It is anti-life.
For 3,500 years in Judeo-Christian society, homosexual sex has been illegal. Only in the last few years has it been legalized, chiefly by liberals and humanists. God made His stance very clear in scripture -- homosexual sex should be against the law, and punishable by death. It has nothing to do with Israel vs. the Body of Christ. It is a universal moral value, timeless. God was not mistaken or stupid when He gave this to mankind in His word. But note, this is concerning the act, not the state of being a homosexual internally.
What do you think about Homosexual Marriage?
No such thing, an oxymoron, self-contradictory. A fairy tale or myth, like dragons and unicorns and four-point Calvinists.
Where are you politically?
Conservative (not moderate) Republican, more upset than satisfied with my party and president. I'm also an Enyartian theonomist, but am under no illusions about that being implemented in the remotely forseeable future. While I am not a one-issue voter, certain issues are litmus test issues, including abortion. I will NOT vote for any but a pro-life candidate. I'll vote Constitution Party instead. I've never done this... yet.
What do you think about the War in Iraq?
I supported it then, I support it now, I don't regret it, it's the right thing to do, and at this point, we cannot afford to lose this war even if it was wrong to start with.
What do you think about Abortion?
Murder. Homicide. Utterly reprehensible. I have always been pro-life, whether I was agnostic or Wiccan or Christian. It can create a very emotional response in me if I'm not careful and disciplined, but I try hard. However, for this reason, I know I cannot work in anti-abortion ministry. I know I'd surely say or do something wrong, sooner or later, that would be not only wrong but counter-productive and self-defeating.
What do you think about Sex before marriage?
My view has slightly changed recently, although not in a real moral sense. Sex before marriage is a sin. However, I've recently come to realize that I see no biblical basis for a ceremony being the beginning of a marriage. Rather, committing to a life-long union of husband and wife and consummating that union is the beginning of a marriage. Therefore, in a strict moral sense, I do not believe it is a sin for a truly committed "engaged" couple to make love. The ceremony is simply a celebration of that union, not the technical beginning of that union. A man and woman are to leave their parents and come together to become one flesh. Not to have some certain ceremony, because of which they are suddenly allowed to have sex.
HOWEVER... I believe it is almost always unedifying in today's society to do this prior to the wedding ceremony. Culturally, it's almost guaranteed to be a stumbling block, if not for the couple then for others around them, especially among Christians. It will give the appearance of impropriety. Therefore, for practical reasons, I am almost always opposed to sex before a legal marriage ceremony. And I have no intention of "taking advantage" of that moral loophole myself, someday.
What do you think about Sex Education?
Nearly always garbage, dangerous. It is the parents' responsibility. They can decide that someone else should teach their children, however this is inherently a spiritual issue and not just a biological or social one. Therefore, it is irresponsible for a Christian parent to pawn that responsibility off onto a secular source of education like a public school. Having some secular school teach your Christian kids about a critically important spiritual issue is extremely foolish.
Do you think that Creationism should be taught in schools?
I think Intelligent Design should be taught in schools as a theory, alongside evolution as a theory. I do not want Christianity taught by the secular government. I cannot imagine very many things more dangerous than that, for our society to do. However, ID is not a religion. It isn't inherently Christian by any stretch of the imagination. It is simply theist, and frankly, while this nation wasn't created as a Christian nation, it was created as a theist nation.
What is the role of sex?
It is a blessing in the relationship of a husband and wife, one of the most wonderful, beautiful and intense expressions of their mutual love. It is also generally for procreation (be fruitful and multiply). On a side note, I do not believe that the Song of Solomon is symbolic of God's relationship with His people. I actually find that somewhat offensive. It is a celebration of marital passion and lovemaking.
Outside of marriage, it is a perversion, an abomination, disgusting. A twisting of what should be a beautiful blessing from God.
What do you think about "Separation of Church and State?"
I don't like the phrase. I agree with the 1st amendment, that the state should not make any religion the state religion, but also shouldn't prohibit the free expression of religion. "Freedom of religion, not freedom from religion."
I support some kind of prayer time at the start of the day in public schools. If prayers are "led," it should be led by students, not faculty. I support display of the 10 Commandments, but only in a context of legal historical symbolism.
But the concept of a "Christian nation?" No way, no how. As a dispensationalist, I'm categorically opposed to any attempt at an actual theocracy. Israel is the only valid theocracy, and she is set aside for a time, until the "end." It would be catastrophic to actually make America a "Christian nation" in any legal or systematic sense, or to make Christianity a state religion. In fact, I believe one of the worst events in the history of Christianity was Constantine making Christianity the state religion of Rome.
What are the roles of Gender? What are the roles of Husband and Wife?
In a nutshell, complentarian. Different but equal. The husband should sacrificially love his wife, even to the point of pain or death, serve her through leadership and lift her up as the pinnacle of beauty. She should love her husband with emotional and physical affection, submit to his will as head of the household and show him respect. I'm very much along the lines of John Eldridge's "Wild At Heart."
What do you think about Hell?
I hate the term. Which Hell? Hades? Tartarus? Gehenna? Three places, three terms, and we call them all "Hell." I think the word should be erased from Bible translations. What do I think about the Lake of Fire and eternal punishment? I don't know if that punishment is like physical torment or strictly spiritual/psychological torment, and I don't much care. Either way, I don't want you to be there. And that punishment is eternal.
What are your eschatological views?
I'm a dispensational, pre-trib futurist. But eschatology for me is a lower priority in doctrine than most other subjects. I don't care much how it's going to turn out. Far more important are issues like the nature and character of God, and soteriology.
What do you believe regarding God's sovereignty and Man's free will? (i.e. are you Calvinist, Open, Arminian, etc.)
I am an Open Creationist. I hold to the Partially Open View.
God is sovereign, omnipotent, omniscient and omnipresent. This debate is more about the nature of creation than about the Creator. It is the creation that is open. God sees most (not all) of the future exactly as it is -- unsettled and open. As possibilities, even as a 99% likelihood, but not as certainties. Hence we see man thwarting God's will, God saying He'll do X and then He doesn't do it, God saying X will happen and then it doesn't happen, God regretting things He has done, and God saying He didn't expect this or that outcome. One of the most wonderful words to repeatedly come from God is the word "NOW."
Do you have anything you would like to mention which defines your identity as a Christian? Any belief(s) of yours which might not be common, or deserves mentioning?
My identity is Christ. I am dead, and He lives through me. Just as the Son, any Christian should ultimately strive to serve the Father above all things. In the is world, the highest priority under that umbrella is to share the gospel with others. Consequently, it is vitally important to know what the gospel is, why it is, how it came to be what it is, and where to find it in the Bible... hence the mid-Acts dispensational view (X9D). The Body of Christ began with Paul, and the Twelve did not belong to or minister to the Body of Christ. Therefore, all of scripture is for our benefit and contains some universal truth, but only Paul's letters are written to us. We should not hold that all teaching in the gospels, early Acts, or the Circumcision epistles or Revelation is applicable to us. They teach a different gospel than that given by Christ to Paul. Finally, I believe that the Open View and the Mid-Acts view fit perfectly hand-in-hand, recognizing and celebrating God's responsive and changing relationship with mankind over the millenia, many times changing His "house rules" based not on arbitrary whim but on rational reasons within His relationships with people. God's rules change precisely because of His dynamic relationality. Hence the term coined by GODISNOWHERE founder Daniel Hedrick -- Open Dispensationalism.
