Anyone here using the ESV Bible? What are your likes/dislikes?

I use the ESV, because it is an excellent revision of the text I started using in 1952: the Revised Standard Version.

I prefer it to the other revision of the RSV — the New Revised Standard Version — because, unlike the NRSV, it does not go to extremes in adopting gender-neutral terms, but does adopt gender-neutral terms when such are warranted by the biblical texts. I became sensitive to such issues while rearing two daughters in the decades of the 1960’s and 1970’s.

No dislikes.

For more on the ESV, see the thread that starts here (http://www.theologyweb.com/campus/showthread.php?t=971).

I use the ESV, mainly because my church recommends it as a good translation. If I may provide another link http://www.adrian.warnock.info/ has some interesting recent discussion as Adrian has been asking the translators of the ESV various questions, getting some feedback from them, and getting some more from the weblogging community.

ESV is my favorite translation. I like the word for word translation philosophy and the English "flows" better than the other word for word translations.

In fact I just finished reading it from cover to cover (over about a years time).

Excelent translation. :thumb:

I've just switched to the ESV, although I still tend to use the NIV for many things as it's what I'm used to. I'd agree with all the positive comments listed above. Bottom line: It seems to water down the text a lot less than many modern translations, and the philosophy behind the translation appears to be pretty good.

ESV is great. I like the translation philosophy of word for word. No negatives as yet.

I just recently downloaded the ESV. I have the NIV and the KJV on the same program and i find myself reading the ESV a lot more than the other two. So far I have no complaints with it.

We switched to it at church. No complaints really. I've been using the NASB for years myself (previously the church used the NIV but decided to switch because of the abysmal nature of the TNIV) and I think I will stick with the NASB over the ESV, but just because I like some of the older language better.
