Okay, I know that this is probably a silly question and I have never worried about it long enough to nail it down, but it would be nice to know.
We have doctrinal names for everything. Based on what I believe, is there a particular doctrine I am following without even realizing it?
Here is what I believe:
1) Quote the Nicene Creed, I agree with every word.
2) Mary was the mother of Jesus; she did not die a virgin and is not necessary for salvation.
3) Saints are sinful people through whom God worked wonders - not always miraculous. They do not intercede on our behalf
5) Faith saves but works are an expression of faith. Without faith works are meaningless, without works faith is a pretense.
6) I do not believe in a Fire & Brimstone Hell. There is a place for those who reject righteousness, God or Christ but the misery there comes from within and is not inflicted. This place is not eternal but will end at judgment day. I have no opinion on what happens to the condemned after that.
7) I believe that Christ will extend salvation to those who did not know Him or who may have been deceived by others yet still tried to follow a righteous life.
8) I believe that those who have a false faith; who say that they are Christians but deny the necessity of Christ or who make no attempt at living as Christ instructed are condemned.
9) I believe that true salvation cannot be lost. Once you are saved you are forever saved and if you fall away from the faith, Christ will seek you out and bring you back. Those who say they were Christians but lost their faith and who do not return to Christ were not Christians at all. They had false faith.
10) I believe in an end of days and a judgment of mankind. I believe that this is an actual fixed moment in time that will be the end of this age and this earth.
11) I do not believe in a physical rapture.
12) I believe that accepting or rejecting Christ as Savior is a personal decision of free will. Salvation was given freely to everyone at the foundation of the world and can only be rejected. God did not pre-select who was going to be saved and who was not.
13) I believe that the power of sin to condemn has been broken by Christ at Calvary. We are expected to resist sin as a demonstration of our commitment to God, but we are not condemned for those times that we fail or for those sins that are greater than our abilities to resist.
14) I believe in only one unforgivable sin – that of rejecting God or Christ.
15 )I believe in the Bible is inerrant and is the true word of God, but that does not mean that every translation or copy is without error. I accept that the writers of the Bible may have believed things about the universe that are not true or recorded certain historical details incorrectly. But on questions of faith, God’s plan, the historical truth of Jesus or Christ’s saving grace it is without error.
16) I do not believe every word of the Bible is literal but is told in the language of the time of the particular book in question. Therefore, I believe in OEC and ID as well as directed evolution that may include humanity. I accept that the first few chapters of Genesis up to the life of Abraham are not history but myths told to explain and instruct on God’s authority and man’s place in creation.
17) I reject the idea that accepting Christ as Savior makes your physical life better, results in pleasant feelings or alters what you desire or like to any great degree. You are still the same “person” you were before you accepted Christ, but you are now aware of sin and of your responsibility to resist it.
18) I believe in making allowances for people’s weaknesses and failings and believe that morality cannot be legislated of forced, only encouraged.
19) I believe Christians should stay out of politics and should NEVER highlight their religion as part of a political movement.
20) Finally, I believe if the world loves you, you are doing something wrong.
These are my beliefs, is there a doctrine I am following without realizing it? If so, which one is it?
Can you help?
