Hi all

(Hope this is in the right place for this)

I dont want to give away too much personal info but my parents have asked me to suggest some scriptures around this area/question.

They go to a non-denominational 'free' church (UK). The leadership is basically 3 lay elders who lead the church. Over a number of months the elders have been deciding to spend lots of money which is not 'necessary' for the running of the church, to such a point where a couple of months ago the church could not afford to pay all its monthly bills. There seems to be no accountability. The treasurer (not one of the Elders) says that he has become so fed up with the Elders not asking him and not listening to him that he is resigning at the agm next Sunday. There is currently no-one to take over.

My parents are very concerned and are looking for some biblical backup before voicing their concerns at the agm.

I guess what they need is some help on stewardship of money

I know this is a hard one, but i'd appreciate your input.

Thanks

Usually your only recourse in an independent church is to vote with your feet, assuming that there isn't a limited term for these elders.

(Vote with your feet meaning finding or establishing another church.)

Money problem are usually terminal for a church, especially a small one.

I think that the folks in the church need to all voice thier concerns to the elders. Remember, "a rebuke goes deeper into a man of understanding than a hundred blows into a fool" (Proverbs). They should listen to the concerns of the church and respond accordingly, I hope.
