I had to go to the emergency room yesterday as my left eye went from normal to bright red is a lot of places in the space of five hours. I was diagnosed with severe conjunctivitis and given drops. But they have not helped yet, in fact it feels worse, my vision is blurry today and the eye continually tears and it is painful (it was painful yesterday too). This is the same eye IIRC that has the torn cornea a few years back from contact lenses.
Whatever you do, do not touch your eyes after reading this post. Go and shower, this is highly contagious.

Do you have any friends that are lactating? Breast milk apparently helps heal pink eye or feel better or something. I'm sorry you're having to suffer though. :frown:
What's this about contact lenses? :twitch:

If this doesn't get better in 12 hours, go back and have them test you for Iritis, which is inflammation of the Iris. I had that. I went twice to Dr's and they told me first to just try some anti-allergy thing, then one gave me an antibacterial stuff, and said if it didn't get better, to go down to the hospital and have them check me out for Iristis, which it was. Iritis is 'inflammation' but not contagious. I did use the anti-bacterial ointment they gave me and my eye did get worse. I had to go on a predisone drop thing for quite a while. It is actually a form of arthritis in the body, and if light really bothers you, that could be a sign that it is 'iritis'. I hope this helps. The antibacterial drops should make you feel better within 6 to twelve hours, at the most, 24 hours. so if your eye is not better but worse, I'ld have them check your eye out again.
(something else, to let you know if it may be 'iritis' I found that the muscles all around my eye, from above my eyebrow to below my cheek bones also got quite painful. I actually took a muscle relaxation pill I had from before when I had pulled a muscle in my back. ) I was surprised at how much pain can be around the eye. Reminds me of that phrase 'the apple of one eye' It is very important, if you have Iritis, to get it looked after right away.)

Pink eye is very painful. DD, I hope you feel better soon.
Breast milk cures pink eye? As in drinking or dropping? And I have to wonder who were the guinea pigs for that experiement.

I had really bad pink eye in one eye last year, to the point where I wasn't sure it was pink eye at all - the drops took FOREVER to take effect too. I went to the doctor (I had drops on hand since my children get pink eye quite a bit) eventually and he said "sorry, and oh by the way I doubt you'll be able to avoid getting it in the other eye..." Sure enough, a week later I looked positively revolting and could hardly focus. It did go away eventually, but it stinks.
So, wash hands like every 5 minutes and NEVER touch your face. Icky stuff. :(
