Just curious.

Normally I can't stand it. John Tesh makes me want to cut my ears off. It's just too... blah. Like eating white bread.

However, tonight I was watching the skateboard movie "Grind" (for the 10th time since Sunday <sigh>) and my son's favorite song in the movie is P.O.D.s Boom. I actually really like it, too, so I looked them up online and it appears they are a Christian band - pretty devout one, too, it seems. I'm thinking of buying some of their cds, but am hesitant because I don't want to be preached to. Anyone listen to them and like them?

Are there other Christian bands out there making big names for themselves in the mainstream market? I was once told Creed was a Christian band, but I didn't see any evidence of that.

Not really, My taste runs to the obscure or to singers with interesting phrasing. I did go to an Amy Grant Concert once. Fortunatly there was an intermission and I had a chance to numb myself with a couple of bourbons before I went back in. The ones to ask tho would be jason and Darth Executor, One Bad Pig has a good collection of thrash by Christian bands.

The Christian music I like to hear is rather of the kind of Beethoven's Missa Solemnis or Bach's Passion according to Matthew ...

I was a Christian for most of my life, and so have maybe 30 Christian CDs.

I can't answer any questions about the current state of Contemporary Christian Music (CCM, for the initiated) for you. I'm out of the loop.

Perhaps I should be a bit more clear. I'm not actually interested in seeking out Christian music. (Ack!! The mere thought. :egad: )

I was just wondering if there were other Christian bands on mainstream radio I was unaware of.

Ah no, not that I am aware of. Unless Christians are angsty whining teens complaining how nobody understands them or how hard they have it. But then again when I listen to the radio its usually the local FM Rock station.

The Christians are invading! The Christians are invading!

I listen to "Christian" music all the time, from Hildegarde von Bingen to Bach to Rachmaninoff to Penderecki. I don't listen to any of that "contemporary Christian" carp, however...

Hehehe....didn't think of it that way...

Actually, I misspelled the word on purpose to avoid giving possible offense...

Seriously people, how hard is it to read the rules! Christians are not allowed to post in naturalism 101. It is a non-theist only forum. Thanks. ~ Pilgrim

We've got a modern Christian station here I listen to if commercials are on my favorite stations. They mostly play rock, but some pop and rap, too. The rap is pretty funny, being entirely opposed to mainstream. Musically it all sounds more or less the same as the mainstream equivalent, and lyrically it often isn't unbearably preachy (although the DJs are...).

I like the band Chevelle, who are Christian, but their music is not. Creed is probably the same thing: Christians writing mainstream music instead of Christian rock.

I can handle that sort of 'Christian' music. Non-preachy and good. Just like I enjoy religious Christmas music or classical.

Oh my god, POD IS SO FREAKIN LAME. BOOM!?!?!!?! I used to love that band back when they were unabashedly Christian and hardcore both musically and ministerially. Now their music is just more "rapmetal" bullcrap rubbish. POD is the ultimate definition of a sellout band, with their fancy carrs on MTV "Cribs". It makes me sick, considering where they were 8 years ago - not making any money but sticking to their values. However, the bassist is one of my favorites.

Anyway. The only "Christian" music I still listen to is Innocence Mission and Psalters.
