JP ... in one of your 'toons you show a row of "fundies", one of whom is NT Wright. I would not have considered him a fundie by any description; did you really mean that or was it part of the joke?

(I've read The Challenge of Jesus and What Saint Paul Really Said and I'm starting on The New Testament and the People of God so I wouldn't call myself an expert on him, but what I've read so far doesn't seem very "fundie".)

Wasn't the idea to show a spectrum of "Fundie"... Starting on the far left with Wright and moving right.

Granted, I agree that the step from Wright to Falwell is a big one.

Could be, I certainly considered that as a possibility. Is Wright a fundie at all though? Let's see what Mr Holding says.

No, he's not fundie. He's orthodox and Anglican, though.

If believing that Jesus was actually the Messiah and that he rose from the dead makes one a fundy, then I suppose he's a fundy.

N. T. Wright is an orthodox Christian who would be leftish for US conservatives, but in terms of Christianity in general, he tends to be slightly right of center, and in academic circles he is midde way between far right and center.

Does that answer the question?

Xavier is right. It was meant to show a rough spectrum. That's obviously harder to do when you have room for only three people (having to include Dan at the end). If I had more space I suppose I'd have put 1-2 more between Wright and Falwell.

I have to say that is a darn good picture of Wright. It is unmistakably him. You should make comics where he goes on space adventures.. that would be awesome... The real Wright does have a lot of experience dealing with the Borg (, Marcus)

Oh heck, you just HAD to say that...now I'm getting ideas. After the series I'm working on now is done, OK?

I wonder what Wright'd think of being made into a toon anyway. I gather he has a sense of humour (Brit spelling) and might appreciate it.

He could ride on the second volume of "Jesus and the Victory of God" through space, like the silver surfer...

The only word of caution I would give is that Wirght is still very good friends with Borg, so the parody might need to be muted in some fashion.

If he needs any magical power, he could pull his elf helper John Dominic Crossan out of his pocket.

Oh good grief. That's worse than what's been running through my mind to put on a T-shirt today...I ought to punish you by posting it....

Very succinctly, thank you.

(And thanks to everyone else that offered an explanation.)

I loved that book he and Borg wrote together offering their two differing views on Jesus.

I happened to stumble across these doodles of NT Wright and found them appropriate for a (dead) thread such as this.
